Need a little input please... - ExAx

Posted: Jan 18, 2015

*some of the post is redacted due to inappropriate response below. not looking to jeopardize anyone's job at all. not sure if these questions are allowed, but

would anyone be willing to share actual experience they have had transitioning to Nuance from a hospital - step by step - and any promises that were made and how they panned out.  did you get to keep your same hours as promised.  how long did it take before you were pushed into other accounts.  were you told you would be working on your hospital account, and if so how long before it did not have enough work.

anyone happy at Nuance, seriously, and I mean is it possible to make any money at all by working only 7-8 hours a day, 5 days a week. no more.

do they allow you to work part time if that is what you were scheduled for at the hospital.

on these transitioned accounts, do they supply the computers.  if not, do they help you get one if they have to hire you from the acquisition and you do not have one...

there must be some people who make it there, I mean the work does get done by someone, (not all overseas is it?) but how is that possible if at all.  or is it only for the original MTs who maybe have been there from the beginning who get all the good work...the rest overseas.

or is everyone subject to the issues on this board no matter how good you are.

My short and sweet answer to you is to go with coding - what you read here

[ In Reply To ..]
is all true. Don't waste your time trying it at Nuance, you won't be happy and you can no longer make money. This company is slowly but surely becoming an Indian company. This company has ruined the profession for American MTs.

Best of luck.

ty for your opinion, it does help - ExAx

what a strange board though...I guess people have to be worried on here, which again is helpful to know if the company is that bad people are afraid.

basically, there are about 25 of us who are supposed to be meeting with Nuance so we wanted to be prepared what to ask and know what is in store for us.

No, if you "E" your email IS visible ... why the need - for deception?

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, but your email address IS visible if you choose to reply by email. Sounds like you are trying to get Nuancers to tell all and reveal who they are.

Looking at what you are asking and at your writing, I have to wonder if you are an MT at all. This board objects to criticisms of grammar issues, but in this case, I think it is relevant. Your writing is very poor for an MT. You write in sentence fragments with incorrect punctuation. You also omit capitals at the beginning of sentences. That is the kind of writing seen in managers, not those who write professionally.

You also do not seem to be asking from the perspective of a hospital MT. You know too much about the MTSO side of things and don't seem to realize it.

You also seem to be throwing the "or go with coding" bit too casually, as if it is a distractor. If you are a hospital MT, either you would be unlikely to be aware of coding as an option or you would have realized that it was and already taken steps to move into it at your hospital. In other words, the "unemployment and work force training" is something that came from a long time of reading posts on this board. It is the only route open to those who get laid off from an MTSO. If you worked at a hospital, you would not want or need to quit that hospital to begin with.

I think I have seen your writing here before and I thought you were a manager fishing for dirt that time, too.

wow, paranoid much? - ExAx

shivers up my spine - you have spent more time attacking my post and not even attempting to answer any of the questions. why would you bother, who are you? are you the owner of this board or something? yikes... if you are at Nuance, you just gave me a TON of reasons why to stay away from it.

am printing this one for my co-workers...

Being paranoid is actually the only thing that pays. - But I happen to agree, for one.

[ In Reply To ..]
Cutthroat tactics seem to be the only thing they do well with their MT division.

Nuance lies. Whatever positive thing they tell you, may last for a very short while, but eventually everything good will come to an end. Yes, some people actually do make money there. However, they work several different accounts, 6-20, and very long hours. Each of those accounts has different rules to follow. It is next to impossible to make money, unless you're young with a very good memory. I'm too old to remember account specs for 10+ different hospitals. You will also make money if you're willing to be on call 24/7. You will run out of work during your scheduled shift, and then you'll have to wait for the "SOS all hands on deck" emails to meet turnaround time. Give it a try, but be prepared as everything you read on this board is true.

ty for the response - ExAx

very helpful. pretty sure none of us are going there, but Nuance is going to come in and give their presentation and we wanted full disclosure because we are also letting the hospital know who they are contracting.

much appreciated...

You're welcome. Please just keep in mind - sm

THEY LIE!!! I didn't go into these details, but they find every way possible to cheat you out of money YOU earned. One more thing - they may start you and an okay cpl rate, but in a very short time, they will lower your pay. I started at 5 cpl and in three months was dropped to 3.75 cpl.

transition from a company acquired by N - anonMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I did not transition from a hospital setting, so some details may be different. At first not many changes were evident. I already had 5 accounts, and I lost 1 of them and gained 2 new ones. Several of our managers and QA immediately quit, so there were some changes there. Gradually changes came, first our platform (which was very much less functional than what we previously had). Then within about 6 months the rules for clocking in/out, definite schedules with NO wiggle room (before we had 10 hours to complete an 8 hour day), meaning for me not taking bathroom breaks unless I dashed (they monitor idle time where you are not actively typing) and racing to get a quick cup of water (I put an ice chest next to me with water/sodas to cut that out). The pay structure didn't change until about a year later (and the introduction of Fiesa). Then be prepared for some drastic pay cuts (50% in my case, and I had 25 years' experience). I also started having many aches and pains from sitting without moving for so long, afraid of being chastized for "nonproductive" time. For me, at that point I quit. So, if you don't have another opportunity, my suggestion would be to update your resume and start looking. You will have some time before all of the above kicks in and hopefully you will find another job. All MT jobs are going downhill and I got out of the profession altogether, taking internet courses during OOW times and when not working. I couldn't be happier in my new job! Ask your hospital if there are any other positions available (out of MT, maybe ward clerk, scheduler, anything but going to Nuance!)

Gather all the info from the posts going back in time on this board - Just pick a day and start there.

[ In Reply To ..]
There are dozens and dozens and dozens going back for at least 5 years, but I think even prior to that to.

Happy research.

Don't do it - liz

[ In Reply To ..]
In my case, everything was fine for 6 months or so and then it started happening. No matter what they tell you, it's not true. They will say they have plenty of work, yet neglect to tell you the majority of it is HORRIBLE ESL people that you can't make any money off of. One reason for this being the TSMs or someone will take all the good work. They may even promise you only certain physicians but that won't last either. They will at some point make you change your hours. I can promise you even if you go in the meeting with a good list of questions, they will have an answer ready to defend themselves. I agree their main reason for being in business is to help India's economics. This company gets new accounts and after 6 months or so (may be different for other accounts), they send them over to India. No warning to you, you will just notice you're not getting the same people any longer. Some companies complain because they notice the obvious difference in quality and the work is brought back to the US, but only for a short time. When they feel things have been going smoothly for a while, they will send it out again. I personally worked on an account that came back twice for that very same reason. I decided to stay, but once I saw for myself how they operate, I left. Don't be like me and think things will be different for you. In the end, they won't.

Ty ladies for all responses - ExAx

Can I Get Some Input On PTO Please.
Jul 11, 2011

We only have 3.?? hours every pay period of PTO until after 4 years with the company.  I was off last week and for each day for PTO I indicated 7 hours per day.  This will give me 1 extra day of PTO over the year at 7 hours pay.  I do not know if that is allowed, they may require us to indicate 8 if we took the whole day off.  Will see what happens about that.  I wish I could put 6 hours per day, leaving me more hours of PTO. We have 2 days paid sick time, which I have ...

Thanks For The Input
Jan 11, 2012

I am very happy to have found this forum. I thank you all for the input on companies. I worked for a company for three years and was frustrated to the point of going nuts. I broke three keyboards and threw books at the wall. I had never experienced this when I worked directly for a practice and had to leave there too. I messed up my left wrist trying to make the lines they expected and took 10-12 a day since their platform was so very slow. I ended up taking a medical month leave of absen ...

Jun 22, 2010

I recently started working PT for a company.   So far, everything has been great with them.  Great work to do, good line counts, pay is on time every time and accurate.  However, something in the back of my mind keeps bugging me.  They didn't ask me to fill out a W-9 form.  Is this normal for PT IC work?  I mentioned it to them and didn't get a reply back about it.    Perhaps, I'm just being paranoid, but I'd like to know your th ...

I May Take A Job With Accentus. Looking For Input.
Mar 11, 2012

I would be doing cliniic work because I want the flexible 12-hour schedule to fit around a part time job working directly for a small hospital.   I may end up being bored, but I want to give it a try.  How is the clinic work and how is the Apex system?  I have previously worked on DocQspeech and Escription.  I really want no more than two accounts and to be mostly just left alone unless I screw something up.  Is this possible with Accentus? ...

Input Wanted From My Fellow MQ'rs
Jun 10, 2010

I'm totally getting burned out at MQ.  If it's not the NJA with requests to change schedule, then it's the lack of primary and getting other unknown accounts slowing me down.  I've gone from full-time at MQ down to working part-time with another part-time job to make up lost income now for the past 7 months.  When I started MT'ing so many years ago, the pay was great and being able to set my own schedule was a real plus as well.  It was the ...

Why Isn't ASR Programmed To Input Dates
Nov 10, 2010

I am doing a lot of cancer clinic notes today (very long reports).  They all have lots of dates in them due to the various tests and treatments the patients have had. This particular facility wants the dates typed out in XX/XX/XXXX fashion; however ASR types them out the long way, i.e., August 26, 2010, so I have to change them all to fit the client profile. It's rather annoying.  I figured that ASR was supposed to be formatted to be in line with the different client profiles. ...

Kinda Upset, Would Like Input

I've been working in an office for only about 3 months now after about 12 years in-home transcription.  It's a busy office for a doctor who is kind of a "superstar" in his field and I love it.  Here's the thing...  it's a new practice, the entire staff has been here for less than a year and we don't all have hardly any PTO saved up (less than a year and all...) and the doc is going to be closing up the office for 2 weeks to go on vacation.  Several of ...

Drs. Who NEVER Input Patient Names.
Jun 27, 2012

How annoying is that? There are a few doctors on my account that don't bother inputting the patient name into the demographics, don't spell it, don't give a date of service...they just say a name and start dictating. They do this for every report, and it's been that way since I started working here! I have a rule where I only try 2 spellings of the name to find the patient. Otherwise it gets pended. What do you guys do?     ...

Who Should I Address Petition To? Need Input.

I am increasingly disgusted and appalled over what this industry has turned into and what the big MTSOs are getting away with at the expense of our ranks.  I don't know if it will have any effect, but I would like to do something to try.  I would like to start a petition through Change.org and state our plight.  This would include the need for wage standards including a minimum wage mandate as well as the offshoring problem and how it is affecting our economy as well as us, f ...
