I'm totally getting burned out at MQ. If it's not the NJA with requests to change schedule, then it's the lack of primary and getting other unknown accounts slowing me down. I've gone from full-time at MQ down to working part-time with another part-time job to make up lost income now for the past 7 months.
When I started MT'ing so many years ago, the pay was great and being able to set my own schedule was a real plus as well. It was the perfect job to have while raising my family, and I just knew I'd found my lifelong job that I would keep doing well into retirement age. But now the pay keeps going down and the scheduling becoming more rigid. It seems all the things I loved about it have simply dissappeared.
I've been trying to get into an medical office type job. I apply to every job advertised and also send in my resume to offices not advertising. The problem I'm finding is it seems everybody wants office experience first. My being a home MT for the past 17 years doesn't seem to count for anything office wise. This is so frustrating to me. I feel I've had to deal with a lot more working from home with avoiding daily distractions of home life, etc., than I ever would have to do in an actual medical office setting. I can answer phones, schedule appointments, use a copier/fax machine, and my-oh-my can I type up a storm. None of that seems to make any difference.
I've considered taking some college courses to see if that would help me get a foot in the door. I can't do it full-time and would have to take it 1 course at a time in order to afford the schooling.
Does anybody here know which medical office type positions would be the least time consuming to school for but still pay a decent wage to work in? I'd like to be able to use my MT skills, and yes I do consider them to be skills. However, I really need some guidance before I totally lose it.
