Apparently the account I work on will be going completely offshore. I am being moved to an account that I know has work (at least for now, not sure how many others will be switched to this one too). I have to wonder though when will be the point when accounts go offshore and people are just fired. While people do quit, is it enough to ensure there is still work stateside.

I have things that need to be taken care of. New tires, new brakes, a new refrigerator, etc. There are a few bills to pay off but I am not even hopeful that there will be enough work for me to do the things that need to get done. When will we hit the tipping point? Perhaps I am overly pessimistic, but I am also feel that looking for another company is just perhaps delaying the inevitable a little longer. At some point, even companies that do not offshore will have more than enough MTs to handle the little transcription that is left.

posted below you with my take on what is happening with Nuance. I think we are being set up so they can convince their clients that we are horrible and India is good then, BAM, we are history. Why else would they do all the horrible stuff to MTs? What is the reason behind their actions?

we'll have more of us replaced with offshore labor. You know - if they QA to death the offshore teams like they're doing the US teams they'd have to fire all of them and keep us. Instead I think the Fiesa is just a way to try to "prove" they don't need US labor so they can get rid of us or cut our hours and not have to provide health insurance or penalties. Many companies across America have been telling Obama/white house they're going to move more jobs offshore and cut hours to below 30 because they can't afford Obamacare. Sad thing is we American workers pay the price for it with lose jobs and will be mandated to buy crazy priced insurance.

Nuance Already Provides Coverage Voluntarily - How Would The Mandate Change That?

Nuance already provides insurance for employees at great cost. If this is something they willingly provide, how is Obamacare going to cause them some burden they don't already have? Obamacare has already slowed the rising costs of insurance, and that trend of lower costs is likely to continue.

These large MTSOs that already provide health coverage have been moving jobs overseas for decades. If they continue to do so, Obamacare will not be the reason. Cheap labor will.

Premiums have to be 9.5% of annual household income - or less

To comply with the ACA definition of affordable care. Say you are on your own and make $30,000, the premiums have to cost less than $2850/yr (~$110 per pay).

This can get tricky though because it also requires this coverage to be of "minimum value" which means it "provides 60% of total cost for a standard population." So $2850 annually is actually not a bad price for insurance premiums, IF there are reasonable co-pays, deductibles, and out of pockets, which I think will be the key question.

I do wonder if the differences in states mean that if you are in a "good" state, i.e. one that is implementing the exchanges and Medicaid expansion, you might end up being able to challenge the coverage you are offered by your company (I have found coverage to be bad in years past, if you choose the more comprehensive coverage the premiums were very expensive and they still would not pay for so much as an x-ray until you paid the huge deductible). I think working for a company nationally may have some hiccups which we will no doubt find out when they come out with their coverage. Nuance are based in Massachusetts, who have pretty good requirements, but whether or not they will adapt them or not remains to be seen.

It is about dollars. The hospitals are complicit in this too. Many want the work for the least amount they can pay for it and MM and Nuance are more than willing to help them get the product as cheaply as they can. The technology helps to keep the errors within a range that everybody is willing to accept. I do not think the QA process is proving anything, I think it is a marketing gimmick or sales pitch for the company to make the hospitals think they can get the transcription work cheap and quality too. Generally if something sounds too good to be true it is, but the hospitals do not want to hear it/believe it.

I've been working with this company for over 90 days. The first 90 days was a paid internship. Paid hourly, minimum wage. I am now a full time employee...paid on production. Didn't MQ make the CTL's become MME's? If that happens to the MT's and you reject it, I assume you will be fired and if so, can you still collect unemployment? What if you they point blank and say, you have to become an MME or you will have look elsewhere. Can you somehow collect unemployment whether you quit or get fired or will you lose out unemployment benefits. Basically, it is a no win situation for us MT's? ...

I get soo uncomfortable sitting for at least 8 hours every day. My right arm and hand just ache/sore constantly, and my fingers, especially on my right hand, are really getting painful. I sit with my keyboard on my lap (on a pillow), sit with a pillow underneath and behind me. My heel even hurts from using the foot pedal.
