Do any of the MTs out there make at least...sm - Oh, Bother!

$15 an hour on a daily basis. I am in a horrific job right now (outside of my home) and need to make at least what I am making now which is about $15 an hour for a total of $97 a day. I know transcription is tough nowadays, but if I go back to MT, do you think I can make at least that on a daily basis?

Just work your tail off. But technically you arent working for $15 an hour but it gives you the equivalent of making that much.

Most places pay 4 cpl for editing and 8 for transcribing (if there is any transcription left anywhere). I do roughly 96% editing.

If you do 250 lph at 4 cpl, that is $10.00 an hour, so to make your $97, you would have to work 10 hours a day.

Problem with that is most jobs dont even provide enough work for an 8 hour day, so you will need at least 2 jobs.

How horrific is that job you have out of the home? I might just apply to your horrific job. I cant work like this anymore.

about how companies pay. My company is 6 cpl for VR and 9 to 13 cpl for transcription on a tiered incentive bonus. No--they are not hiring.

As an MT, I've always worked at home. The amount I have earned per hour has varied widely, depending the account, the good or bad quality of the dictations, the platform, etc. One particularly bad account on ChartNet yielded me less than $5.00 per hour. Another very good account with clear dictators on EditScript, working 2nd shift when work was most plentiful, allowed me to earn anywhere from $12 to $20 an hour. Unfortunately, that account went to India.

I do, but only because I make at least 9 cpl (more with incentive), rarely run out of work, have a decent account, an OK platform, and average at least 175 lph. No VR here, which helps. It takes a lot of variables going your way to be able to do it.

In my previous job (6 months ago) I was doing straight transcription, no VR editing and was averaging $20/hr. (employee status with benefits). They are out there - you just have to look for them.

some days I don't but I generally end up making it up another day with a ton of work, or getting unexpected weekend work and make $1100-1200 every two weeks. Took me a long time to get to this point. However I do not work in a pool, have several doctors assigned to me and that is what I do. I can pick up extra work usually when I want to though, which helps bump me up even more.

I make roughly $18/hour with my full-time job and roughly $25-$30/hour with my part-time job. Have never fallen below $17/hour, except when at the Q couple years ago.

Fortunately, I work directly for a hospital that, so far, has not gone to VR or outsourced. I'm sure the day will come for VR there, but for now I know that I am one of the lucky ones.

As for the part-time job, that one fell into my lap. I do disability physicals for a local doc who still dictates on tape :-) He drops the tapes at my door, I type and e-mail the reports. They are mostly template work, so it is quick going. He pays by the report, rather than by the line, but when I figure what I would make if paid by the line, it comes out about the same as what he pays, so it's all good with me. It is quick, easy work that pays well and is my "extra" money for all the things 4 kids constantly seem to need cash for -- a movie, a field trip, gas -- and for me to buy another book or new nail polish or stop at a garage sale. ;-)

I know that I am lucky, and I don't expect it to last forever. But, as stated before, I've never had a problem earning $17 or up per hour (except with the Q). When I finally am forced to go to VR, then I guess I'll see what happens.

I've been working with this company for over 90 days. The first 90 days was a paid internship. Paid hourly, minimum wage. I am now a full time employee...paid on production. Apparently the account I work on will be going completely offshore. I am being moved to an account that I know has work (at least for now, not sure how many others will be switched to this one too). Didn't MQ make the CTL's become MME's? If that happens to the MT's and you reject it, I assume you will be fired and if so, can you still collect unemployment? What if you they point blank and say, you have to become an MME or you will have look elsewhere. Can you somehow collect unemployment whether you quit or get fired or will you lose out unemployment benefits. Basically, it is a no win situation for us MT's? ...

I get soo uncomfortable sitting for at least 8 hours every day. My right arm and hand just ache/sore constantly, and my fingers, especially on my right hand, are really getting painful. I sit with my keyboard on my lap (on a pillow), sit with a pillow underneath and behind me. My heel even hurts from using the foot pedal.
