Obviously it was not in referrence to "real" errors.

What I gleaned from this editorial was that we are going to paid by the hour in the near future. Our company sent out a memo recently mentioning other positions in the company that an MT could possibly move into. This was mentioned in the ADHI editorial as well. But this could be a double-edged sword. Stay in MT and you stay at low pay. Move into different position, you might make more, but how many positions are there? Again it is de-valuing the skills we have. This is the way I see it. I hope I am wrong and that we all get raises and fair bonuses, but I would be the Queen of Naivety if I truly believed that.

with all the changes in clinical documentation and more patients due to the affordable health care act there maybe a shortage in doctors and/or doctors may have less time to input patient data meaning clinical documentation specialists will be needed more than ever.

The article mentioned that although traditionally MTs (clinical documentation specialists) have traditionally been paid by the line, with changes in technology the pay needs to be more "equitable" meaning, reasonable and fair. They are simply implying that the traditional line per hour pay may not work with the changes ahead and they need to come up with a fair and reasonable standard by which the MTs will be paid. They did mention a few times our knowledge and skills so I guess we will have to wait and see.

Its good to know that we will still be around and needed more than ever, but the question is..what will pay be like.

While I would love for our pay scale to change and for us to actually be compensated for our skills and knowledge, I would be selling myself short sitting here thinking oh its going to happen b/c AHDI suggested this. I'm not going to hold my breath until I see actual changes. We sit here day in and day out doing the majority of our job for free, is that going to change. Even if they do give us an hourly wage, would it be a fair hourly wage, b/c the companies that do pay hourly are only paying about $12 an hour. Um who goes to college and works in the field for years to only make $12 an hour. They feel this is fair b/c in all their eyes the VR is to make our jobs easier, which is far from the truth. There are federal standards for minimum wage, why is it that our job, which requires higher education and continuing education is only valued at minimum wage or not too much higher. Since I have worked as an MT my wages have significantly gone down and not up, this is reverse from most jobs in America. Even a person working at Target gets a raise at least once a year. I have been in the MT field for years and my pay has dropped.

You have run off (most) of your seasoned and experienced MTs and are relying on the sheer numbers of eager new MTs coming out of your schools. (No slam intended on new folks.)

This business just is what it is, and experience counts when one must handle multiple accounts, confusing demographic information, keep track of multiple different *account specifics*, and particular physician perks.

So with your largely inexperienced staff of MTs, and accounts across the board IN THE RED on a consistent basis,

How's It Working For You?

How happy are your clients (the ones that write your paychecks)? Are they tickled pink that you cannot fulfill your obligations and promises to them on a timely basis?

Pay the MTs that have proven their worth statistically with production numbers, earnings, and dependability.

You can't take what they say at face value, ever. One has to wonder what they think is in it for them, and what their ulterior motive is THIS time?

What caught my eye in this article is this excerpt below and I agree 100%. Something has got to be done about MTs making minimum wage, this is ridiculous.

"For these new roles, production-based compensation, commonly used in traditional medical transcription and speech recognition editing, is no longer appropriate or applicable. Compensation models for healthcare documentation specialists must be developed to reflect the wide variety of skills and knowledge required to perform the job duties and related tasks."

The MTSOs want the "skills and knowledge" but they - want to pay clerk-typist wages..

This is a knowledge job. It's time we stopped allowing ourselves to be treated like minimum-wage clerk-typists.

It doesn't matter how a line of medical text is generated. It takes the same amount of KNOWLEDGE to edit a line as it does to transcribe it.

And, it makes no difference either whether the line does or does not contain errors - it requires the same degree of knowledge to know whether a line of text is accurate or whether it is not. "Right" or "wrong" are just two sides of the same coin (meaning, the same knowledge is involved).

For some reason I never looked at it like that and just accepted what was given to us as far as pay, meaning edit is worth less. Although I complain that edits are horrible and really need retyped, I never looked at it from that point of view. Regardless, an all type or an edit does require the same amount of knowledge.

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

I bet I'm not alone. Your new pay plan is cruel. I would rather miss out on having a quarterly bonus and getting emotionally destroyed once in a quarter rather than every single day. This doctor is absolutely disgusting.  I have umpteen jobs for him and he is constantly coughing and snorting up his snot.  I can't take it any more.  It is so gross.  He sounds like a snorting PIG.  On top of that, he's constantly forcefully flipping through the pages of the chart and it must be right near the microphone because it feels like it's going to break my eardrums.  All I can do is keep calling him nasty names...he's such an idiot, jer ...

The site I used to go to does not exist, and the DocQManage site only has statistics, QA submitted reports and client profile look up. There are several disagreements I have with what I was marked off for. It is so aggravating. I should have added a word (which has no effect on the meaning of the sentence. I thought they were 2 different services.  Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows.  All the small companies have been merged I guess.  I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR.  Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

Does anyone know why the ad says "No inquiries from overseas" when they obviously offshore the work?  Anyone reading that would incorrectly assume they do not offshore.  I was reading an article in the newspaper that a journalist was talking about a few days ago regarding the hospital outsourcing to the Web/Nuance, and the spokesperson for the hospital said in the article that the company only employs US MTs.  ...

If Webmedx does away with or changes their recently advertised "PRODUCTION BASED INCENTIVE" bonus and adopts the Nuance quality based bonus then this change may be considered by quite a few WMX employees as yet another cut in pay.
