I think I finally figured out the new pay plan..... - newbie

Posted: Jan 19, 2015

Okay - I've only been here a couple of weeks, and the pay plan is all finally starting to make sense..... now I understand.  So.... really, the way to make the most money is to not send more than 10% to QC.  It does't matter how good my quality is or my speed is, if I send more than 10% to QC,  I only make 7 cents a line......   so I'm better off with slighly less quality as long as I don't send more to QC.  It doesn't make much sense, but I am glad I figured out how it works though.....

You got that right-- "Patient Safety Pay Plan" - What a bunch of BS

[ In Reply To ..]
Like I said before, if they were at ALL concerned with quality, they would dock the pay more for QUALITY, NOT on whether we need a second listen, you know, to ENSURE SAFETY!!!! Good lord this company is something else...

don't send any? - figuring pay scale

[ In Reply To ..]
I think you mean QA. And my advice is don't send any.

Got to have above 99% quality too - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If our quality is below 99%, we automatically get 8 cpl no matter what our speed is.. so they get us either way. 7 cpl if above 10% qc, 8 cpl if accuracy is below 99%. It's a lose/lose situation for us.

More or Less Pennies - Meh

[ In Reply To ..]
I think you meant that if accuracy is below 99%, then it's 7 cpl (rather than 8 cpl) as you put it?

In any case, it seems this new pay formulation they have was meant so the company can overall pay its MTs less. So instead of the company coming out and saying "Starting in December, we will pay our workers 7 cents/line for regular transciprtion and 3.5 cents/line for editing, they do this instead. Of course, sometimes MTs will make more than 7 cents/line, but there will also be plenty of times in which we only make 7 cents/line. It's like the opposite of a pay raise. If this field is still around in 2 years, MTs will be making maybe 3 cents/line for editing and 6 cents/line regular transcription, considering that pay just keeps getting lower and lower and lower and lower.

I agree, getting your hopes up that you will be - one of the special ones

[ In Reply To ..]
Who makes more than 7/3.5 is not a good idea. You will get let down and realize it is not how good you are, not even how well you know this convoluted, idiotic system, it will simply hit you one day that no matter how good, how fast, how dedicated you are, you get a nonsensical "error" that puts your lph down and that's it, you realize what a huge sham it all is.

So don't waste the time and energy hoping and trying, it is simply not worth it. That is the cruelest thing Nuance does, holding out that particular carrot. We have all seen those who get the bonus(es) come on here crowing about how they do things and how you should follow their example.

It used to actually be true you could get rewarded financially doing everything well, but now it is simply not happening and even the most virtuous of us who may even understand this grid thing will eventually be stung.

Note to that person (and all the others who get there eventually): Do NOT blame yourself. It is rigged - above poster is entirely correct, they just wanted to lower pay but covered it up with smoke and mirrors. Devote as little time as you can to that FIESA garbage and just tell yourself they are only paying you 7/3.5 but that is what most pay anyway, so just get on with it.

The danger is when you think you might have a chance at actually earning again a better income, then it is pulled away from you at the last minute. When you feel you have let your family down, it is just devastating, and that is what I cannot forgive Nuance for.

Just be honest, for crying out loud.

If your QA score is below 99% and your QC % is - wannie

[ In Reply To ..]
less than 10%, you make 8 cpl (believe me, I know that all too well).
The worst part about this new "patient safety" plan - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The first few weeks, I tried hard, I really did. I proofed all my work, went slowly to make sure I produced wonderful, quality work. I knew I would be getting a decent paycheck because I was crossing all the t's and dotting all the i's. But the problem with that is that I went so slow that I still got the lower end of the pay scale even though my quality was good.

So the following week I went a little faster in hopes of getting a higher CLPH and making better pay for that week. Nope, got an error on the last day of the pay week and dropped me down to 8 cpl.

So now, screw it. I'm not playing games anymore, and unfortunately, it's not about patient safety for me. I am in it for myself and my family so I can pay the damned bills and put food on the table.

I get through each report as fast as I can and move on to the next one. I have guessed at blanks so I don't go above 10%, and I go as fast as possible, only slowing down at vitals and lab values to hopefully not make any mistakes there. I have resigned myself to the fact that I am making 4 cpl and that's that (99% of my work is VR). If somehow I miraculously happen to have my quality above 99% at the end of the week, well then jolly good for me; but I'm not counting on it anymore. I'm going for volume. And that's the reality of this patient "safety" plan.
QC% - mad
[ In Reply To ..]
Anyone have a QC% that was not correct?
All the time. - see message
[ In Reply To ..]
Let the QC scores roll off. You'll get lots that are wrong and they will not ever be reversed. Dig this, they are supposed to be for educational purposes since the score that is attached to them is largely meaningless.

QA scores are the only quality scores that can pull your accuracy score down. If you find mistakes on these important ones? By all means, request a reversal.
QC scores are for educational purposes? - for us or the QCs?
[ In Reply To ..]
Honestly, I just cannot fathom why we need QC people ripping through our work for "educational purposes." I can tell you I have NEVER had a decent QC call on my work, only frivolous and nasty non-error errors, and as far as I can tell the QC people seem to be much more picky and much less knowledgeable than actual QA.

It just does not make sense to me, plus why is Nuance wasting the money employing people for that nonsense when they are ripping us MTs off left, right, and center.

I will stop thinking about it now because it gets me mad. What is the point of QC then?
QC% - mad
[ In Reply To ..]
But with the new pay plan QC% does affect pay
Only the number of reports you send to QC, not the score that is attached to them. - QC scores happen anytime you
[ In Reply To ..]
Have to leave more than the permitted number of blanks and have to submit it. QA is the post-audit score you get back when they have done their supposedly random audit of work you submitted straight through.

I'm telling you, just ignore the silly scores attached to the QC reports. The scores on those do not matter. Only the number of them submitted does.
Agreed! - HN
[ In Reply To ..]
I will not invest anymore time trying to make sure the text fits on a page, going over my work, or spending any time making sure everything is perfect because it doesn't matter - Nuance does not care. It's all about how much less they can pay us so the "fat cats" can get richer. Not about patient safety at all!!!! It's a joke except I am not laughing!!!!
Yep- you can have 74% quality and still - see msg
[ In Reply To ..]
get 8 cents a line IF you don't send more than 10% to QC. HOW is this patient safety? If they cared about that, they would pay 7 cents for under 99% quality period. And 8 cents or more if over 99% quality REGARDLESS of the amount you send to QC. If you send too much in their eyes to QC for blanks a good MT should get (and NOT for sound issues or horrible dictators) - maybe they should let you go. But they don't CARE about quality, so their way makes perfect sense.
So true - see msg - Chickadee
[ In Reply To ..]
I sent in 3 huge reports (200-30 lines each),which ended up being more than 10% (11.3%) due to an ESL dictator on a tertiary account I rarely work on dictating doctor names and places I could not understand. Next time I am spelling them with the closest phonetic spelling to someone/thing in that area and calling it good. I had 100% accuracy and instead of getting 11+ cpl, I ended up with 7. I am done. They get what they pay for.

With New Plan STM Stated 35% Of Our Team Would C Increase With New Comp Plan
Dec 04, 2014

This means 65% will see decrease and/or paid minimum wage. They are touting this as the great new comp  (local Burger King is advertising job for $10/hour).  Anyone find out if the QC percentage is just for blanks or include all sent to QA including Audio issues, etc, and will EQA be included.  Also, trying to figure out our pay from week to week is going to be a pain.  I am going to see how this new comp plan works out, but since the conference call, I'm not feeling pos ...

I Figured It Out
Sep 19, 2012

We are waiting to hear about "enhanced compensation" or really "reduction" until everyone is moved over to 7.1. They did not expect there to be so many delays, and I think real soon, everyone will be shifted over, and then they can show us with all of our production reports how great their program is, and then cut the pay to be "industry standard." I knew I would figure out a reason it was taking so long. ...

I Think I Have It Figured Out!
Mar 21, 2015

Think I have finally figured it out. We got a call from Chase saying that someone had used our credit card and had tried to charge two items worth a couple of hundred dollars but they turned it down. I am certain they have software that figures out your buying patterns, where you go, and what you normally buy with their card as a way to cut down their losses. If that is the case and I am sure that it is, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this company must have sof ...

How Is OT Figured At Your Company?
Jun 26, 2014

Once upon a time, I used to work for a company, who, when working overtime, would have you log the lines you did during your OT period and pay 1-1/2 times whatever your line count was, which was awesome.   It seems this day and age, companies have a base rate in which they pay for PTO purposes and all the lines done (OT and regular) are put in the same count, and then how ever many OT  hours worked are paid at the base rate and then half, which is actually considerably less than what w ...

Sep 14, 2013

Several things have happened in the last 6 to 8 weeks or so where my accounts are concerned.  First, my primary account was changed to basically a secondary and the worst of the worst accounts (which happened to be like #4 in my list/queue) was moved to the #1 slot.  It didn't take me 2 weeks to realize that I was going to have a nervous breakdown if I had to continually do this particular account ALL of the time (and I do mean ALL of the time) because pretty much no one else is w ...

Has Anyone Figured Out System Hours?

I have asked for clarification of this but have never received a response from any TSM.  How is it figured?  Time typing?  Time spent pushing the foot pedal?  My system hours are usually quite a bit lower than actual hours.  Although no one has ever said anything to me about it, I fear that might not always be the case.   ...

I Finally Get It....
Mar 02, 2010

After receiving the infamous "no jobs available" for the upteen time today, it finally hit me.  What an amazing way to get rid of MTs without really having to get rid of them on your own.  Drive the MTs insane with no work, yet keep them locked to their computers in the hope that a job might become available.  It feels kinda like playing the lottery....you know it's a waste of money and time, but just maybe you might win...ughh.  Why is it that our "professional" jo ...

I must admit I've been reading this board for years, never posted until now, partly due to the probably unsubstantiated paranoia going around awhile back that those who posted here got the ax first, silly I suppose, but I used to care about keeping this job and didn't want to take any chances.  Now, finally, I understand that I am fighting a losing battle, and I know longer give ******.  I've been reading about you guys with NJA for days on end, etc., etc., and I guess I ...
