A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
I have been watching the boards for so many months. I was laid off almost a year ago and sent "oodles" upon "oodles" of resumes to every company I saw on this board, the other board, the job servers...You name it, I sent it. I even did Craig's list. Some were kind enough to respond, some did not bother. But I still plugged away. My unemployment ran out in July and thank God we have been making do. I answered an ad on Craig's list for something out of the home (I did not want to have to, but I needed to get some type of job to keep my sanity!). It was part-time maybe 6 to 10 hours a week, but helping out in an office, cleaning, setting up files, organizing, etc. Turns out the office gets medical reports in order for trials that are coming up for disability, etc. independent exams, attorneys. The docs are psychiatrists who are consultants for firms regarding their clients. When the OM saw that I had transcription experience (radiology) she flagged my resume and called me in for an interview. She needed someone extra to help when needed to type those lengthy reports and she pays per page (AND I CAN DO THAT AT HOME!!!). Needless to say, I jumped at the chance.
So I go into the office maybe a day a week for a few hours to help her and then type at home, send the files and get more as needed.
So I am in my glory!!! It is a new type of transcription for me and a new field (psych) so I welcome that challenge.
I will take this as far as I can go with it, cause they are always needing transcriptionists for that type of work.
I know there are so many of us MTs out of work. But there is hope sometimes. I am excited that I found this position. I wish all of my fellow MTers luck in finding that you need to stay afloat...
