Foreign Doctor Dictations - Slave
Posted: Aug 28, 2013
Is anyone else at Nuance getting foreign doctor dictations constantly during their shift? I do not mind doing a few at a time but having to do a full shift of foreign doctors is getting very trying. Thanks!
ESL Sundays - nn
[ In Reply To ..]
Sundays for me are 90% ESL at the very least. Don't know why. Makes it really hard to get my lines, and I end up having to make up for it the rest of the week.
Yes and several reports in a row from the same horrible ESLs - Thats how today was for me

I just wanted to give up before my 8 hours was up tonight.. Didn't even average minimum wage for those 8 hours. This happens to me on a fairly regular basis. It's very trying to say the least. :(
Over and over - Me2

Some days I do give up and log off early, when I have had all I can stand.
I am thinking the next time they conference call me for never-ending counseling, I'll just respond in some freaky ESL jibberish language where they can't understand me. Won't that be fun?!
Logging off Early - Fed Up

And if you log off 30 minutes or an hour early, you're harrassed about why you did and when you're gonna make it up and you're promise that you won't do that again!

I thought it was just me.
pay should be more for ESL - unfair

In an ideal transcription world your pay would be adjusted if your pool was mainly ESL doctors or English-speaking doctors who have no idea how to speak. It is just another way to take advantage of the transcriptionists who can decipher the poor dictators.
Two of four or five accounts I am currently on are.....sm - LoveMT

about 90% ESL dictators. When I was first asked to be on the start-up/go-live team for my primary account about 5 years or so ago, I was told upfront that the account was about 90% ESL, which really didn't bother me. Some ESL physicians are WAY worse than others.
I tend to have an "ear" for the ESL dictators, so most of them are not too difficult for me to pick up. IF I had to do a bunch of different ones all day long from numerous accounts to the point where I could not become familiar with specific styles of the ESL physicians, THEN I would definitely have a problem.
I have been fortunate enough to work in a pool of accounts where many of the same ESL physicians practice at the same hospitals, so I have had the opportunity to become familiar with each one's style, quirks, etc. THAT alone makes it a little bit easier and more tolerable to do a lot of ESL dictators on a day-to-day basis.
I feel your frustration nonetheles. I have had some who just want to make me tear my hair out and have taken me months to get used to. I have had some who I have actually had to ask for samples of every single work type they dictate because they're just perfectly horrible dictators, not even TRYING to be clear and articulate no matter how bad their accent (or whatever you wanna call it) is.
I particularly hate it when I get that "special" AWFUL ESL that no one else wants to do about 5 to 10 times in a row in ONE shift. All that tells me is someone is cherry picking their way around him some kind of way and leaving him so that some poor soul gets EVERY single one. That is so unfair! I will work through whatever shows up in my pool, no matter how bad or who it is, but there are a lot of MLS who don't play fair and cherry pick or sit and wait until someone else pulls "Dr. Fantastic."
I agree with whoever posted below saying that we should get paid at a higher rate for the most difficult ESL dictators and even those mush-mouth, I think I'm God American dictators...

Foreign Doctor Pronunciation Jan 18, 2010If I could transcribe for this doctor on a daily basis, then I might finally learn his pronounciation of medical terminology.
I have no idea what he is saying...........It is important that valium not be administered for DTs until the patient’s arterial blood gas ______ is _______.
Sounds like he is saying "arterial blood gas bestla is esogrich. Could he mean breathalyzer maybe because he is alcoholic? I have no clue what he means by esogrich. ...

Foreign-transcribed Records Aug 17, 2014A friend of mine who works in a medical office told me this afternoon that they've started getting records that are transcribed overseas. She said the records are done so badly that they can't use them, can't trust that the information in them is correct. When I told her my job may go away soon & be sent to India, she said "it can't!" She said these records are obviously done by people who don't speak English. What I don't understand is how work can still be off ...
Working While Visiting A Foreign Country Jun 12, 2012Hi All,
Because of family "emergency" I may have to go overseas for a few weeks. I'd like to keep working because I don't have any leave available right now. I'm wondering if any of you out there have ever brought your laptop and worked from a foreign country. If so, were there any technical issues? I know some websites have their access blocked from certain parts of the world and I'm wondering if DocQScribe and DocQManage have any issues like that.

So Sick Of Listening To These Foreign Doctors Apr 02, 2013I am sitting here literally ready to punch the wall out of sheer frustration. So sick of listening to these foreign doctors. Are there any of the regions that are not saturated with them? Seems like mine is chock full. When I transcribed for another company, with a lot of the hospitals in the Southern end of the US, it was not near as bad. VA Hospitals, full to the brim with them and overflowing as well.. ...

25 Second Dictations Apr 13, 2010For the past 2 days, I have been on an account with very short dictations - clinic notes that average between 7 and 30 lines. I am making less than minimum wage - it takes a certain amount of time just to do the ADT info and of course they are all ESL doctors. I don't have a primary and I certainly hope this account doesn't end up as my primary. Anyone have any tips on how to make money on these short little dictations? ...
Dictations Mar 19, 2014Why is it that not taken into the equation of our pay is the fact that most residents, PAs, CNP, CNM, etc., do not pronunciate, have correct grammar, or the fact that they just don't dictate adequately in general? I spend way too much time looking up, confirming, trying to figure out what they are saying as they laugh, slur, set the phone down under paperwork while flipping through charts and sign papers (can hear this often), or constantly move the phone around where all I hear is cr ...
Kids In Dictations Oct 24, 2009I just got done with a job where for the last minute the kid kept saying "daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daaaaaddddy, daaaddddy... etc" for literally over a minute. Recording Dictations Aug 02, 2013Seriously, I wonder if there is a way to record these dictations. I would LOVE to hear for myself the "errors" QA/QC are always finding and putting into Fiesa. The fact that we are not provided with proof of these "errors" really concerns me. Please Nuance bigwigs, prove to me that QA/QC isn't making things up or hearing things wrong. Really, are we to believe that we are the only ones making mistakes, that they always have perfect hearing? I want proof! ...
Partial Dictations Jun 22, 2014I think all dictations at Nuance should be partial dictation worktype. Wtih "partial dictations, you don't have to do as much checking of demographics, figuring out date of service and filling that in, etc., and not having to pend and leave comments so mcuh. I notice I'm about 75 lines faster an hour when it's partial dictations because there's less outside-the-report activity to be done. This is extra activity we dont' even get paid for. After all, MTs are only paid ...
Overheard A Doctor Telling Another Doctor... Oct 15, 201020 years ago when the DRG's hit the hospitals, one was complaing to the other... "they treat doctors like a bunch of old dogs now". Well, that's how MTs are being treated now. Why on God's green earth do the MT services require all MT's to work at least one weekend day every week (Friday's and Monday's don't count). Every ad I see on the Job Seeker board requires weekends. Are they sadistic or something. Why do we put u ...
Mistakes In Normal Dictations Jan 20, 2010At my company (a smaller one) there are a lot of mistakes in the normal dictations that the doctors request. The way they are created in the first place is the transcriptionist types up the report and sends it to QA saying the doctor would like to use this in the future for his normal, but I don't think they get reviewed by QA. I think they just get created the way they are. So if it was a right eye, the word right is there all the way through it. If a word is misspe ...

Short Dictations = Minimum Wage Jul 13, 2012Worked as an IC 20+ years. Now having to work for a service. The account I do rarely has a dictation longer than one minute. It takes It takes a LOT longer to research, log demographics than it does to actually transcribe. At home I did 1200 to 1800 lines a day. With this account I can't even do one third of that!

SICK Of Retranscribing Whole SR Dictations For HALF PAY!! Aug 01, 2012Yeah, it came in like:
"Within the belfry San Francisco heated the tripod and pumpkin blazed with endometriosis...."
The WHOLE report didn't have three words consecutively that made the least bit of sense or had anything to do with what was dictated.
"Fix" it? You gotta be kidding. Wipe it out and transcribe as dictated, you mean. Oh, and here's your half line rate, thanks!
