I had the same problem with a new account with a lot of indian doctors. If you are able to read some of their old reports while listening to their dictation, it becomes SO much easier.

Shoot the report full of blanks, refuse to learn how to interpret. You are a transcriptionist not a translator.
The better you are at mucking a stall, the more mucking you have to do and the less you will earn.
Got ESLs?
Say, "I'm sorry, I can't understand this work." Shoot it full of blanks and return it. No matter how much these companies want to shove it down our throat and make understanding difficult dictators our problem, the fact is, it just isn't.

Accents Jan 15, 2013Wondering why there are so many dictators with thick foreign accents? American doctors can be mumblers and use cell phones and also cause you to tear your hair out, but just wondering why there are so many of these horrible dictators with extremely thick accents? Aren't there enough American-born doctors here? Just curious why they hire so many foreign-born doctors. Do they pay them less maybe? ...
Does Everyone Know The Accents, But Me? Feb 07, 2013I have noticed on all of these job aps now they ask how many years you have experience with like Asian accents, Spanish accents, European accents, etc. Does everyone else know how to differentiate these, because I don't! I know I have ESL experience and have typed mostly ESL, but I couldn't tell you where the doctor is from. I had a recruiter ask me which ESL I had the MOST experience with???? I just don't even know, LOL, I told her all about the same. ...
Expressing Accents Jun 23, 2010My very plain English speaking dictator is quoting a patient and when he does it he speaks with the patient's deep southern accent, using phrases like 'yer' instead of 'your', etc. Should I type it how he sounds it out, or what it should be? ...

Understanding Accents Sep 17, 2014I am a studying transcriptionist and wanted to ask a couple MT forums for their opinions/help. I really enjoy healthcare, and after dabbling in coding and admissions I have landed on medical transcription, and I really enjoy it. I am almost half way done with my training program but wanted to see if there are any tips, books, any kind of resource that has helped registered medical transcriptionists have a slightly easier time transcribing from an ESL dictator.

Two Issues: Accents And Motivation Mar 05, 2014Anyone else have these issues?
I find that after doing report after report of doctors with different accents (Indian obviously, Asian, Spanish, British), it just gets more difficult to wrap my head around what is being said. I can't find that sweet spot where I can understand what is being said, and it is so frustrating!
Also, motivation. I start my shift, am on a good roll, then NJA. After doing a few jobs that trickle in, clock in and clock out, try to remember the ent ...

Accents Are Hard To Understand... Any Tips? Feb 07, 2011Lately I've been rethinking this choice I made for doing medical transcript work. I'm still in the 3rd course but the accents they have me working through are really hard to understand at times. Why do doctors mumble? Are there any tips you would like to share to help me get through this? Positive construction is welcome. Keep your negitivity to yourselves. ...
Foreign Doctor Pronunciation Jan 18, 2010If I could transcribe for this doctor on a daily basis, then I might finally learn his pronounciation of medical terminology.
I have no idea what he is saying...........It is important that valium not be administered for DTs until the patient’s arterial blood gas ______ is _______.
Sounds like he is saying "arterial blood gas bestla is esogrich. Could he mean breathalyzer maybe because he is alcoholic? I have no clue what he means by esogrich. ...

Foreign-transcribed Records Aug 17, 2014A friend of mine who works in a medical office told me this afternoon that they've started getting records that are transcribed overseas. She said the records are done so badly that they can't use them, can't trust that the information in them is correct. When I told her my job may go away soon & be sent to India, she said "it can't!" She said these records are obviously done by people who don't speak English. What I don't understand is how work can still be off ...
Working While Visiting A Foreign Country Jun 12, 2012Hi All,
Because of family "emergency" I may have to go overseas for a few weeks. I'd like to keep working because I don't have any leave available right now. I'm wondering if any of you out there have ever brought your laptop and worked from a foreign country. If so, were there any technical issues? I know some websites have their access blocked from certain parts of the world and I'm wondering if DocQScribe and DocQManage have any issues like that.

So Sick Of Listening To These Foreign Doctors Apr 02, 2013I am sitting here literally ready to punch the wall out of sheer frustration. So sick of listening to these foreign doctors. Are there any of the regions that are not saturated with them? Seems like mine is chock full. When I transcribed for another company, with a lot of the hospitals in the Southern end of the US, it was not near as bad. VA Hospitals, full to the brim with them and overflowing as well.. ...
