I need a secure FTP site to send completed dictations! - NEW Private Account

Posted: Jun 30, 2013

WOO HOO! I landed a private account.

I have looked online to find a reliable FTP server or the like for sending the completed files back to the clinic.

Would any of you be so kind to let me know of reliable ones that are inexpensive or free? I'd be forever grateful!!

not HIPAA compliant - ICManiac

You need to comply with HIPAA/HITECH regulations. That means you have to keep a log of what files you send, to whom you send the files and at what time on what day. Password protection is not enough. It has to be security compliant. Did you know that even if you password protect a document, it can still be printed by anyone? Password protection only protects against future revisions of the document, not protecting the document for being able to be seen by or printed by unauthorized users.

I highly, highly, highly recommend MPTools 6 for encryption of documents. I also use mydocsonline for my doctor who wants to send me his voice files. If you want to act like an independent contractor, you need to educate yourself about what your responsibilities are. A woman who lives only 10 miles away from me was arrested by the FBI for violation of HIPAA two years ago. She has not seen fresh air since that time. I encourage you to take HIPAA/HITECH seriously and find out what your responsibilities are.
It had to be a serious case for an FBI arrest - anon

Criminal penalties ONLY apply to those who "willfully" and "knowingly" obtain or disclose health information.

The "FBI" certainly isn't going to arrest an MT regarding the topic we are discussing. In that line of thinking, every physician or health employee who dictates on a non-encrypted cellphone or in a public area would be carted off by the FBI to prison.
the arrest was identity theft, but they used HIPAA - ICManiac

as the initial charge. Yes, it was serious. The person took reports for over 50 patients and had obtained new credit cards and used them for more than 2 people when she was arrested. Because she stole medical records as the vehicle to obtain that information, she was arrested on HIPAA violations.
sorry, it was the US Postal Service, not the FBI - ICManiac

who was involved. The local police, the USP Service and the Secret Service were involved.

Why did the Secret Service have jurisdiction? Just curious.
the paper never said why the SS was involved - ICManiac

I'll email you the link. I just don't want everyone on the board knowing specifically where I live.

That's a whole different thing than sending files email - sm

all three of my contracts send voice files and intake sheets via email half of the time. I uses drop box to send back. The HIPAA/HITECH police aren't going to conduct surveillance on this woman who has a doctor or two - or anyone else - only if she is selling the info and someone turns her in or she does as that woman in the paper - commits ID fraud, which isn't because of HIPAA - she had the info as part of her job - it's because she's a criminal LOL.

Here are five FREE email encryption services: iSafeguard Freeware 6.2; HushMail; Safe Express Home 5.5; Sbwave. Here is the link that gives more info on these sites:

I don't know what paper you read - ICManiac

but the woman to whom I am referring stole the documents from the hospital. She was able to do this because the hospital failed to protect the documents. That is the point I am making. People do bad things with unprotected documents. If you fail to protect them, you are putting yourself at risk of financial penalties and jail time. Will the HIPAA police come after her? They might if documents she fails to protect are used in crimes such as identity theft. For me personally, the risks outweigh the benefits and I would rather be protected than be put at risk.
last time I sent reports via email with password only company and I knew - the attachment could not be opened al all. sm
[ In Reply To ..]
So the document not only could not be altered as you say - it should not be seen by anyone without the password period. Listing of time, date, and to whom sent is right on that email as well, automatically. not a huge upset to pull a list when necessary, so those have-to-have's are compliant.

Hushmail offers free accounts - and it is HIPAA-compliant NM

MX SECURE
Jul 20, 2012

Has anyone heard of Mx Secure?  I just tested with them.  I have 12 years experience in hospitals and internet companies.  They said I didn't pass the test, which was extremely easy, and I do mean easy.  They suggested I take courses with them.  Is this company a scam?  Why can't I find a real company to test with anymore? ...

In-house Job Not So Secure
Aug 23, 2010

My job could be in jeopardy because we might be merging with another clinic, and there are no other local in-house MT openings. I've been working in a specialty clinic (in-house) the past 5-1/2 years. Even though I have 5 years of acute care/radiology experience and 1 year of multi-specialty clinic, and even though I took the M-TEC course and graduated with 98% about 3 years ago, it doesn't matter because I don't have recent acute care experience. Okay, I can unders ...

I Think We May Be Secure The Need For Editors.
Jan 04, 2013

I'm back to editing after a few years away from it and can't believe how bad the software still is. The company I worked for 3 years ago used better software and the drafts were not that bad. Now I'm with a different company using not the best editing software. Not sure what the docs are using, but the VR really does a bad job, even with very good dictators. On words it doesn't understand it ignores them and then picks up when it understands it again. The errors it is makin ...

Just Completed My MT Courses. Now What???
Apr 27, 2010

I just completed my Medical Transcription course through Penn Foster. When I first decided I wanted to become an MT it was the being able to work from home and being home with my young son that was my deciding factor. Now after completing the course and getting an idea of what all is involved, I'm a little insecure about it all. I did ok in my courses, but being just "ok" isn't gonna cut it in the real world where the reports are not just for testing purposes, but for REAL people. I do ...

MT To RN Anyone Considered Or Completed?
Sep 11, 2012

I am considering going back to school to get an RN.  After speaking with a few RN friends in my area I am looking deeper into the possibilities.  They recommended our community college with its 2 year degree program.  This school also works closely with a major health facility here in town for recruiting.  I have been on the hospital's job opening emails and along with multiple openings weekly for RNs (days, nights, and prn) and my nurse friends' agreeing there is a ...

Has Anyone Here Completed The Andrews Course And
Apr 02, 2014

not been able to find a coding position?  It seems like the best option, but everyone around here locally wants 5 years experience, so I guess the only other way to get started is as a doctor's office receptionist/biller/coder, which is what they do around here & it doesn't pay well at all because most offices will just train you on the job. My 19-year-old daughter got on doing it but started at $8.50/hr, now up to $9.  Five years as an office girl at a doctor's offi ...

Completed Allied Course - Feeling Unprepared...
Apr 25, 2010

I have recently completed the Allied MT course, and as I begin to test for companies, I realize that I am not prepared for the real world of the MT. As I have already spent a great deal of money, taking the Andrews course is not a viable option for me. If I could turn back time..... Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions of ways that I could obtain some "real world" practice so that I may be better prepared for my career? I have searched for mentorships, as I would love to have an MT to help ...

Can Andrews' Coding Course Be Completed In Less Than 12 Months?
Jan 24, 2011

I've been looking at both Andrews and Career Step for online coding classes.  One thing that I've noticed (other than the cost differences) is that the Career Step course can be completed in as little as 4 months.  It seems the Andrews course takes a minimum of 12 months.  Is it possible to complete it in less time or is that frowned upon?  If I had the extra money and time, I would probably be leaning toward Andrews (particularly since I already completed thei ...

25 Second Dictations
Apr 13, 2010

For the past 2 days, I have been on an account with very short dictations - clinic notes that average between 7 and 30 lines.  I am making less than minimum wage - it takes a certain amount of time just to do the ADT info and of course they are all ESL doctors.  I don't have a primary and I certainly hope this account doesn't end up as my primary.  Anyone have any tips on how to make money on these short little dictations? ...

Dictations
Mar 19, 2014

Why is it that not taken into the equation of our pay is the fact that most residents, PAs, CNP, CNM, etc., do not pronunciate, have correct grammar, or the fact that they just don't dictate adequately in general?  I spend way too much time looking up, confirming, trying to figure out what they are saying as they laugh, slur, set the phone down under paperwork while flipping through charts and sign papers (can hear this often), or constantly move the phone around where all I hear is cr ...

Recording Dictations
Aug 02, 2013

Seriously, I wonder if there is a way to record these dictations. I would LOVE to hear for myself the "errors" QA/QC are always finding and putting into Fiesa. The fact that we are not provided with proof of these "errors" really concerns me. Please Nuance bigwigs, prove to me that QA/QC isn't making things up or hearing things wrong. Really, are we to believe that we are the only ones making mistakes, that they always have perfect hearing? I want proof! ...

Partial Dictations
Jun 22, 2014

I think all dictations at Nuance should be partial dictation worktype. Wtih "partial dictations, you don't have to do as much checking of demographics, figuring out date of service and filling that in, etc., and not having to pend and leave comments so mcuh. I notice I'm about 75 lines faster an hour when it's partial dictations because there's less outside-the-report activity to be done. This is extra activity we dont' even get paid for. After all, MTs are only paid ...

Mistakes In Normal Dictations
Jan 20, 2010

At my company (a smaller one) there are a lot of mistakes in the normal dictations that the doctors request.  The way they are created in the first place is the transcriptionist types up the report and sends it to QA saying the doctor would like to use this in the future for his normal, but I don't think they get reviewed by QA.  I think they just get created the way they are.  So if it was a right eye, the word right is there all the way through it.  If a word is misspe ...
