Discrimination against California? - sm

I've seen where some companies are not interested in hiring MLSs from California (presumably because of labor laws). I'm wondering if any Nuance MLSs from California have felt some bad vibes lately? I'm wondering if they want to get rid of us.

I recently left an MTSO that gave a lot of - extra harassment to their CA MTs.

They obviously wanted us to quit. It was nearly impossible to get laid off from there, however, again most likely because CA will likely pay UE, even if they let you go for what they determine to be "just cause". I think CA has the MTSOs' number, and would call BS on that.

They mandate minimums on days off/year and high minimum wages. I'm afraid if more states adopt higher minimum wage standards we're going to see the MTSOs start avoiding hiring in those states.

In most states, they have to pay time-and-a-half/overtime for hours worked over 40 in one week.

In CA, overtime must be paid if more than 8 hours are worked IN 1 DAY ... that's the difference. I don't think it's high minimum wage.

Many MT ads will clearly state that they will not hire MTs living in CA.

Years ago, I worked as an IC in CA for a couple of months. Company required me to have Workers comp! Just for me, so crazy. Then after a few months, company wanted us to be incorporated! In CA at that time, that would have cost $800 a year, and this was a part-time job to boot. I said no thanks. I wonder if there are any ICs in CA now? Anybody know, wonder what the hoops you have to jump through now are, or do they just not hire from CA?

Just a thought, has anybody noticed that all TLs and TSMs are CMTs.  I believe they discriminate against those of us who do not have our RMT or CMT for any positions of authority.  I have applied for many TL and TSM positions and have never heard a word.  They CYA by putting that preferred line in, but what they mean is don't bother.  I believe this is discrimination.  What do you all think??   ...

had difficulty finding a job with an MTSO and suspect it is because you live in CA (they probably don't like the fair worker's laws we have here, ie, having to pay our benefit rate for OT, having to pay for NJA, etc). I, too, live in California.  I'm a level-3 MT, getting mostly ESLs and other difficult dictators.  I've brought my QA percentage down from 22 to 20% but it's impossible for me to go any lower with what I'm being routed.  It looks like our job description has changed dramatically.  Because of these new changes imposed by corporate, I'll now be getting paid 3 cents less through no fault of my own, but a different job description, not what I was hired to ...
