Does anyone know if MQ has "cost of living adjustments" in different parts of the country or if everyone in the US makes about the same line rate range? We were thinking of moving to Ca from Texas. I know I make barely enough to keep my head above water here in Texas. Wondering if the Ca MQ transcripitionists make more?

I'm considering a move FROM CA to Texas, because the cost of living is so high here. I pay over 1000 for a very tiny 1-bedroom apartment, and it is NOTHING special believe me.

If you can barely keep your head above water in TEXAS, unless you will be able to stay somewhere rent-free, I'd seriously reconsider that move.

Wow! That is costly! I pay 890 for a 5 bedroom 3 bath house here! I had hoped originally to seek employment with Kaiser when I got there - I figured they had to pay more than MQ, but with the total economy in the dumps, that isn't looking good. Seems like there is no way to turn and no breathing room.

way up north where it is supposed to be cheap, I pay 1100 a month for a 3 bedroom, 1/1-2 bath on 1/4 acre lot, my taxes on this small chunk are 5000!

Well, if you consider moving to the CA desert, the homes and apartments are much less money. I live 60 miles north of LA and have a 2 bedroom house that I rent for $600.00/month with a fenced yard and there is also a Kaiser up here.

Tried moving from AZ to CA in 2002. - Survived 6 months.

Husband ended up getting employed in Aliso Viejo. We lived in Ladera Ranch/Mission Viejo area (orange county) near Irvine. It cost us 1,600 for a 1 bedroom apartment (month-to-month rent) with a 10-year-old and a dog. Could not swing it. You pay taxes for everything and one of the highest prices for gasoline. Cost of food, rent, etc. Ended up moving back to AZ.

No, there is no cost of living adjustment, same line rate.

The cost of living is higher in Cali than in Texas. I moved from Arcadia (LA) where my 3 bedroom/2 bath little house, barely a yard was costing me 1800 a month, to Texas where my 4 bedroom/ 2 3/4 bath, HUGE house costs me 780 a month. *buying not renting*. Same pay with MQ either way. Cali too expensive, but so beautiful.

There were so many restrictions in the housing area also. Neighborhoods are so perfectly manicured, gotta watch your dogs and cats like hawks, maintain exterior with expertise... Couldn't even park our car in the street overnight! Had to be in the driveway and we have 2 big trucks, too big for the carport. Always got fussed at by neighbors... Love cali, glad to be back in Texas.

One cool thing, in LA there were wild PARROTS in the trees in our neighborhood! Big green parrots.

had difficulty finding a job with an MTSO and suspect it is because you live in CA (they probably don't like the fair worker's laws we have here, ie, having to pay our benefit rate for OT, having to pay for NJA, etc). I, too, live in California. I'm a level-3 MT, getting mostly ESLs and other difficult dictators. I've brought my QA percentage down from 22 to 20% but it's impossible for me to go any lower with what I'm being routed. It looks like our job description has changed dramatically. Because of these new changes imposed by corporate, I'll now be getting paid 3 cents less through no fault of my own, but a different job description, not what I was hired to ...

If you are an employee working in California with an employer in another State you need to be aware of the State of California Labor Laws. I worked for a company in FL and worked overtime for several months. They did not want to pay me time and a half. Nuance is required to pay for your 10-minute rest breaks separately and clearly display it on your pay stub. You are owed 1 hour of pay for every day PAID breaks are not provided going back 3 years.
