I just received a score on my Allied Med School Final exam of 84%, which really surprises me as I have been scoring upwards of 95 on the assignments and felt really good about these 5 transcriptions. From your experiences, what are my chances of ever being able to find a job with an 84 on my certificate? Trying to decide whether to try the second attempt or not - worried that my grade on it would be even lower...

The important thing is that you pass the COMPANY'S test.

I wouldn't worry about it. Concentrate on testing for your new job. Good luck!

Companies also require at least 98% on test. nm - FYI

Our company requires that 98% accuracy be maintained at all times. We require accuracy in terminology, spelling, punctuation and grammar. I have seen people be let go for lack of quality (as they should be). I think that all reputable companies have the 98% accuracy requirement. When you stop to think that there is a real, live patient behind every chart we transcribe, the 98% figure makes a lot of sense.

For a final exam score for a school final NOT good -- you will have problems passing company tests and I would suggest brushing up on the "weakest" areas before even attempting to test with a national.

If you scored that low on the test prepared by the school that trained you, there's a good chance you might not score high enough on company tests. So if you're allowed to take the test again, I would do so.

Thank you all for sharing your opinions with a "newbie", I have spoken with my school and will re-test, as my scores meet target, 97%, on all but 2 transcriptions.

I would not be nearly so worried about scoring 84% as I would about having an education from Allied. I do not believe that it will adequately prepare you for the MT world. You might want to try Andrews, M-TEC or anyplace else that is SUM program-based. Competition is fierce out there. To be taken seriously, you need to graduate from a good school. Good luck to you!

I hope that I didn't make the wrong decision going with Allied. To be honest, I made a hasty decision when my daughter was born to complete a course and become a transcriptionist. I was already interested in the field but could not find a way in without having taken a course. Now I have scored low on a final that I found, after having spoken with ed support, covered some things that I was not taught. I'm starting to worry about other things that might have been missed. I am not worried about spelling or grammar, as there were no spelling mistakes and just a few grammar mistakes on all the transcripts. In the end, it is what it is and I do appreciate all the advice that has been given.

So not great obviously, but I landed a job in about 8 weeks, then another 2 weeks later and another about 2 months later. So you can do it. This was back in 2002 and no one ever asked me what my final score was. I tested for 2 of my 3 jobs that I had and passed their tests, though job#3 did take me two times to pass. Job#2 hired me over the phone on a probationary basis of a month, this was a cold call I made to a local MTSO. I worked for a few months before I reapplied at job#3 there, and in that time period I had learned a lot. When you test for a job though you need to get a 98 for most companies. I would re-test and also start applying everywhere you can and test, you learn a lot in the testing process, I know I did. I am no longer with #1 or #3 but still do job#2, and another IC FT position I have. Don't be afraid of failing because it will happen, just keep plugging away.

Turns out my weekly benefit is MORE than I was making at MM before I got laid off, at least recently. I'm guessing it's because I made more before and slowly but surely my pay kept going down down down. Apparently the UI benefit is based on an average of what you made all year or something. All I know is that by getting laid off, I am actually going to make much more than I did as of late. Isn't that a hoot. Good riddance M-Modal! ...

I finally cut ties with the Q after being returning to work for them and finding them not to be the company they once were or the pay was not the same. After careful consideration and finding another position, I resigned. Awaiting my pay out from my PTO and being told it would be deposited today, nada. Anyone have any idea about this? This was published in the Federal Register last week, correct? I have a friend who is in a battle with an insurance company over a very sick child. They are always throwing up obstacles for coverage. She told me that out-of-network treatment is covered at 50% of 200% of Medicare rates. So we are trying to uncover exactly what that rate is. I have been waiting for final pay from MTSO since May when check was "sent" It has not been received by me, nor has it been returned to MTSO. Operator of MTSO says they have "fulfilled their legal obligation" and the fact that I have not received money is unfortunate. I resigned from MModal a week ago, June 23rd and received my final paycheck deposit yesterday. It was over $100 short! I worked the same number of hours I also do and transcribed within the ball park the same number of lines. I also had 12 hours of PTO they owed me for that I had not used. Has anyone ever been told that the final pay from an MT company will not come all at once, and will be divided up into 2 final payments? I thought this company would send me one final check, but she stated that they are sending it out according to their pay schedule and the final check will not come until the second week in June!! Can anyone tell me in no uncertain terms, with absolute certainty - is crepitance a word? I cannot find it anywhere EXCEPT on sites like this where MTs are saying it is not a word. I always thought it was not a word but, of course, it keeps creeping up in reports.
