no transcription experience - nothing suprises me

After a few days of arguing back and forth with my CCM about feedback issues, audit keeping me from earning full pay, inconsistencies, I finally had a conference call with CCM and QA sup as well. I was angry, admittedly, wanted and was demaning to be taken off 100% for silly "critical feedbacks" (doctor clearly says "if" and you typed "is" CRITICAL FEEDBACK???.) Asked how in the world us MTs can be faulted for cruddy ASR and/or dictator problems! (no answer) Asked if either still transcribed and had the opportunity to listen to these things. CCM has never transcribed. QA sup has "a little bit" of experience...

No wonder they don't care, THEY CAN'T EVEN RELATE!

it can still be counted as a "critical error" if they choose because you did not transcribe what is dictated.

considered a typo, and there are different classifications they can use. That is NOT a critical error. Critical errors are usually medical words or other important words in the document that can affect patient care.

That's right. A critical error is such as "gram" instead of "milligram", IM instead of IV... is and if, NOT.

It's a shame that those giving you feedback don't have any true experience MT'ing. I agree, they can't possibly relate. That's what they call "on the outside looking in"

I got a critical error for not capitalizing Gastrografin. BTW, it is in spellcheck as either way, which is why it wasn't caught to begin with. That would AT BEST be an incorrect spelling. Critical to what?

It would be nice if theyd give us a spellchecker that - at least agreed with their concept of spelling. nm

put the wrong way in your expander to expand the correct way. Simple way to fix it if you cannot go in and delete the incorrect entry.

errors were categorized fairly. Now it seems that EVERYTHING is a critical error, and EVERYONE is expendable at a moment's notice.

I think you're not getting the big picture. I think they were just using IF and IS as examples.

Bottom line: Critical errors are subject to the person doing reviewing preference. One day it's one way, the next another. There is no consistency and overwhelmingly, more "critical errors" seem trivial and trite. They are changed so often that I cannot ever get a straight answer as to what is correct.

I also believe that if these people had transcription experience, they'd have a less rigid agenda and be more understanding and sympathetic toward us MTs.

I have become pretty miserable/bored lately. I have been transcribing for 30 years mostly orthopedics. I want very much to do acute care transcription. Does anyone think I have a chance to get into it? I received a job interview for an IC position with a company called National Medical Transcription with headquarters in New York. Has anybody worked with this company? My main concern was that the company does not offer direct deposit but rather issues a check via mail. Hi, I recently spoke to someone from Turn Around Time Transcription. I had found their ad on mtjobs.com. Does anyone have any knowledge of this company? They use the Medrite XL platform and the owner told me all the transcriptionists said it was an easy platform to work on, but then I looked it up and MTs were complaining about the line counts being so low. There is a hospital in my area that has 2 jobs I am interested in, one is a records analyst and the other is a records clerk. I am definitely ready to start working outside of the home, but I fear my MT experience will not help me much in getting one of these jobs. I have been noticing that the experience level required to even get looked at for an MT job has went up. The 2 year experience mark has now went to 3 in most postings, and alot more postings are stating they want a minimum of 5 years. It is an up hill battle in an already hard market but with these kind of requirements I supose the seasoned MT's can rest a little easier and the newbies I guess can look for another line of work. I am trying to figure why I never get a call-back on job applications anymore. For instance I applied at one company who was advertising a week or so ago, I'm sure I did perfectly or almost so on the test, never heard from them, and yet now they are advertising again. My range is not great, mostly ER and clinic, so maybe this is the issue but I have applied for these positions recently to no avail. it's the old question - how to get acute care experience that everyone wants - when none of the local hospitals are hiring for MT (I've checked).
