been noticing major decrease in work volumes in west - just want to work

just wondering if anybody else in west has been noting marked decrease in work volumes. My major acct used to have, at least on weekends, 200, 300, and even in the 400 numbers of jobs and lately the weekend work has maybe been 50 at a maximum. I guess just another acct gone to India.

Yes I have noticed a dramatic change in work load/(NJA). Also, decrease in communications. I agree with you on where it is going.

I have finally taken the leap and made a phone call. I have an appointment next week with an employment recruiter. First opportunity, I am leaving the MT/ME field for good.

with 80% of the work planning on being sent to India shortly, I know it will not last long and so I am taking advantage of the overtime being offered almost every weekend. I also have 2 job interviews coming up (not MT as MQ is buying up all the other companies) and trying to get out while the getting is good.

MT is pretty much dead in this country as far as making a living wage and jobs available. Thought I would hang in there and be the one to turn the lights out, but have to take opportunities when they come up in order to protect myself financially as I don't think MT is going to make it the three years I have to go until retirement, at least not at a wage that a person can live on independently. Very sad, used to make 20+ dollars an hour in this profession, now down near minimum wage for most.

We must be on same account. I'm sure it's going to India soon. - I want out.

I'm in the west and was recently offered a job (NOT MT) but unfortunately its a conditional offer - on the condition that the position is approved to be filled. So that sucks, but if they decide to fill it, then I am there and no more MQ or MT.

offering "Independent contractor" positions for what they used to pay for employee status or less. I have been watching the boards for job ads and don't even want to look at IC positions (not cut out for being responsible for my own taxes and need insurance, etc.) and guess what more and more of them are IC jobs. Has anyone received a raise lately from MedQuist? I've been working for Medquist for 9 years. I was roped into becoming a medical editor 4 years ago with the promise of making more money because I wouldn't be typing. During this transition time I was trying to decide between IC status and employee status. I was doing this because I thought that being an IC would save my 1/2 cpl decrease that you get with employee status. However, in my packet, my rate is now 9 cpl, down the 1/2 cpl as mentioned, but the choices were still FT, PT or IC. to quit. I gave my notice last week. CCM called and talked me into staying. I said I would try it out a couple of more weeks. Who else gets annoyed when you get an overnight e-mail from a team lead or manager stating there is a high backlog on your primary, say maybe 300 reports, and within 2 hours it's down to wiped out? Do they think we're stupid enough to not realize they are trying to justify sending that work to India by telling the client "well we sent the e-mail out, the Americans didn't get on so we had to give it offshores."
