I think the point is that they don't "need" night shift MTs anymore. - sm

There was a time when you couldn't get anyone to work the shift and they were nice to have to clean off the system. But now everybody is "flexing" so much that third shift really only has a few hours that it isn't heavily covered- the 2nd shifters are flexing late to catch up and the 1st shifters are starting early to get a jump on everyone else.
Add to that, our favorite coworkers in a time zone that differs by about 13 hours are starting their day shift when we start our night shift, so what use do they really have for anything more than a few US-based MTs to cover those pesky hospitals that insist on keeping their work on domestic shores?
It is very disheartening to hear what has happened to our fellow MTs who have recently been terminated by Transcend. To add insult to injury they turn around and have an abudance of openings they are now hiring for. I will not apply there and I feel no one else should either. Make them sweat it!
I know it is tough right now and we all need a good job. This has got to stop and the only way these companies won't get away with it is if we don't tolerat ...
If you were working for a national, and making less than minimum wage, but had plenty of work and basic health insurance, would you take a per-diem inhouse job that paid 5 times what you were making now, but had no benefits, and meant a very long commute?
I'm thinkin' about it, but with gas headed toward $5/gallon, I'm not so sure.......... ...
Our local hospital has a new position for HIM Clerk to review medical reports for accuracy. This pays twice what I was making as an editor for a service. I wonder if this will be the trend, to create new in-house positions in HIM for editing. Perhaps another endeavor that will not end up saving them money or improving accuracy over what their service is providing?
Perhaps someday the bean counters will realize they could drop one millionaire CEO to gain 250 experienced e ...
Just wondering if anyone has missed a job opportunity by not responding right away to a potential employer. I got an email yesterday around 3 p.m. asking to interview with me and I responded around 5 p.m. and have now heard nothing back. Just wondering if I missed my window? Would they go with someone else just because they were available in that 2-hour window? I really, really, really want this job and am just making myself sick over the possibility I may have missed my opportunity. ...
I am a former MT (laid off) who worked for a University teaching hospital for 16 years doing transcription. After Nuance took over I took a job at the same University teaching hosp. doing outpatient clerk position. I am thinking of enrolling in classes for coding because this hospital has a coder training program that starts you at over $19 an hour, just have to be enrolled in school to apply for the job. They do training classes as part of your work day and then you study on your own to get cer ...
I have a question about Amphion. I applied to them last summer, and I ended up taking another position. Now, I am looking for work again and tested for them again. The benefits email I received when I first applied to them had OUTRAGEOUS costs for the health insurance - are they still like that? Which insurance do they offer - still Humana?

I am pleased to say I have found an open door to a job opportunity that is outside of MT work. It is a job that will utilize my experience in healthcare and my medical terminology. A very nice pay increase, regular holidays off with pay, and vacation and sick time. No weekend work. Most importantly, a new skill set that makes my more marketable opening up more future opportunities as well. I hope this encourages some of you to see what is out there. Submitting a resume or filli ...
Hi all,
I need some advice. I am currently a medical transcriptionist and I applied for a job at a local billing company as an administrative support for the coding department. The pay was 13.00 an hour and it was about 33 miles from where I live, so I declined on that offer. The HR lady had told me during the phone conversation the day I declined that because of my background in transcription she asked if I would be interested in coding if a spot opened up, which she sa ...
As we all know, thanks to the way most MTSOs operate, there is currently a glut of experienced, talented, highly-qualified MTs who are looking for something better than just a chickenfeed job at a national.
Some hospitals have begun to question the quality of work they're getting back from the nationals (and the HIPAA compliance), since ever-increasing amounts of the work those nationals have is getting offshored.

I am curious as to ways transcriptonists (of employee status, not ICs) might be advancing in their transcription careers other than being paid incentive line rates. I am thinking long-term.
Do any of you get raises? If so, what kind? Are you paid per the line or hourly?
Are there different levels of transcription in your place of employment with different pay scales?
Do you make different rates for different dictators or work types?
Are there any other kinds of advancement opportunities avai ...

I need help in being a perfect MT. It seems I proofread my work and later find out that I left a word out or did not finish a word. I am not perfect and will never be so why do I beat myself up when I do this? I know all the rest of you must be perfect because I am told I am not and have to be to keep this job. ...
I have over 15 years as an MT. I think I'm pretty darn good after all these years. Perfect? No. But darn good. Anyway, my thorn in the side is whenever I test for a new MTSO lately my test score comes back at 86%. WTH? I am meticulous when it comes to testing and have all my books, etc. handy when taking the test. I take my time and know that I pretty much did 100%. Then I get the little email. "We're sorry but your score was 86% on the test. Sorry but we can't go into detail abou ...
Sound quality is perfect. Doctors are enunciating. No background noise. Getting a high line count.
Oh wait, I just woke up and smelled the coffee. What a great dream.
Now back to the reality of this nightmare. ...
I keep seeing this commercial on TV for insurance where the girl says "insurance companies - news flash. Nobody's perfect." I can't help but think I hope someone from Nuance is watching, preferably those idiots who mark off for dumb picky BS when doing QA. One dumb error in a report that has absolutley no impact on the intent or on patient care but I am below 99% for it. I used to tell my kids all the time "what goes around comes around." I would love to be around when it "comes a ...
Saw their job posting and was wondering if the "pay issues" were ever resolved? Also, any current Lee Perfect ICs out there happy or sad with the company? Is there plenty of work?

Yesterday I had my appointment for a a haircut and color. I was sitting in the chair, and a woman two chairs down asked where I worked. She said I looked familiar. That, of course, was not the case. We got to talking, and she said she was a transcriptionist 20 years ago, and she was trying to break into this field again, but no company would hire her because she had not done this work for so long. She asked what company I worked for. I told her I q ...
I have been observing a lot of comments made on this board and have heard many comments from others about the MT profession across the Internet. Sadly, most comments ring loud and clear with the all too familiar vibe, such as: “Times are tough” and “You have to make adjustments” during these tough economic times. Yes I get that part of it. I also work at a MTSO and I know from firsthand experience that it can be tough -- especially when our pa ...
I'm an IC, at present have two accounts, and have used WP for 24 years (WP X3 in the last five). However, because of changes coming down the pike, I think I should probably finally sit down and really learn Word (I have Word 2007).
I just thought I'd ask here before I take a class on Word: Are there any medical transcription shortcuts/secrets I should know about that I wouldn't learn in a class? For instance, is it possible not to use the mouse? Are there ...
Hello all! I just received an IC offer from Lee Perfect. I have checked the archives and cannot find any postings more recent than 2010. Anyone currently work for or recently worked for them in the past? Pros, cons? I just recently lost a great cardiology account with another company thanks to EMR, and I am hopeful to find a company that makes me as happy as that one did. I used to work for Transcend, so I'm leery of big MTSOs. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :) ...
Failed by 0.15. Got an error for "not following CP" Excuse me! I could not find this tiny exception in the jumble they call the CP. Oops, like, sorry I missed that, but I did hunt for it! I know there is one account in the many I encounter every day that I has this little tidbit waiting to bite you in the rear end.
Looking forward to 2 more fails - even though I am in the 99% range. I do not know how I am going to do any better with the sound quality and the horrid ASR I am given. I al ...
Needs 7 years experience, scan entire report and leave feedback for 1.40 per report?? And we all know how lengthy those reports can be..... are they really hoping to get any resumes?? Good Luck! ...
Who is responsible for putting reports in there? The same people that are dinging me for adding "a" or "the" in the wrong spot. You spelled the name of the retractor wrong!!! Maybe they should sign the reports so I can QA them

Only work part-time, few days a week, so this week got four jobs audited at 100% each four days in a row, so they keep going until they can find an error and, of course, one small word was found incorrect! I have never had 5 audits in one week. How discouraging this is, very sad and pathetic. ...
They offered direct deposit. But no, they both pay in paper checks. No, I don't live paycheck to paycheck. I have a stash of money for emergencies. But direct deposit would be nice, because sometimes things happen with the mail. It can get lost, or be delayed by a couple days. It'd be nice to have the money right there in the bank on the same days.
Just venting. ...
