Isn't it really about prospective? - Becky

Posted: Jul 18, 2011

Hi all.  There has been talk on this board a lot about people being negative.  Seems the people who are venting are too negative and the people that are happy are too happy.  I think we all need to respect where the next person is coming from.  Isn't it really all about perspective?  Where you have been?  Where you are going?  Some people used to make more money in this field but find themselves working just as hard if not moreso for less pay now, and they are upset, and we should be sensitive to that.  On the other hand, people that are truly happy with MT as their career and post positive things should not be called liars or naive or whatever else.  It's about perspective.  If you have been a stay-at-home person forever, and now you do this and make money, you are in a good spot.  If you used to make more money, and now you make less, you are not in a good spot.  ALL fields/careers have things that we can complain about incessantly and forever until our dying days, but that does not mean no one is happy or that there aren't wonderful things about our field.  In my experience, I was a teacher before this with 10 years of experience.  I could not support my family of 5 doing that alone, so my husband works too.  With MT, I also could not support my family of 5 alone, but again, my husband works too.  This is a good gig for me, and I love the work, and I am happy.  Many people in many fields do not have a working spouse to help them out, it's not just some MTs.  The bottom line here is, we should all be understanding of each others' experiences, and supportive, on this board.  There is good and bad, like ANY field.

where's the thumbs up when you need it? - Thumbs Up to you.

Excellent point. You are so right about the fact that we are supposed to listen and be supportive on these boards, not bash each other.

HI everyone.  I'm seriously thinking of doing medical transcription as a career change.  I've been researching schools for about 4-6 months.  I realize that Andrews and M-Tec are considered the top two, but I just can't afford these schools.  I have read several posts on this forum and am wondering if it is possible to get schooling elsewhere that will give me the information I need to find a job and work successfully.  I've b ...

Dear Prospective Employer,

Dear Prospective Employer, It would have been great if you had specified in your ad whether the opening was on-site or if it was available to telecommuters.  If it is not available to telecommuters, then I just wasted over an hour of my time and your HR department has a unqualified application to process. It would have been great if your HR department had done a trial run through your online application to get the bugs out of it.  It would have been great if you had not designe ...

Getting Response Back From Prospective Employers
Dec 16, 2011

This is kind of an embarassing question, but when you send your resumes out to companies, do a majority of them simply not contact you to say "thanks anyway" if they are either not hiring or do not want to hire you? I've sent my resume out to a dozen and have only gotten one "not hiring right now " reply. ...
