Q hiring. Can I hear from any happy MTs there? - see message

If you are an employee of a couple of years or more, are you happy there? Do you have plenty of work? If would you, please reply anonymously with your average income and what are your likes and dislikes.

I know many MTs do not like their job there, but I really would like to hear from the ones that do like it there and why. Why is it that some MTs have plenty of work and some do not?

It probably is, but here goes - why I like my job:
1. I am not physically able to work outside my home anymore and won't be old enough to retire for 8 more years.
2. This is a job that is tailor-made for people with physical disabilities, I can move around when I need to and still get my work done. I can stop and take a pain pill without a supervisor sending me for a drug test.
3. I can make enough money to keep a roof over my head, food on my table and an internet connection to be able to keep working.
4. My supervisors have always treated me fairly and I was quite friendly with some of them (they tend to disappear quite often, never to be heard from again!).
5. ASR - even at a lower rate of pay, was a blessing to those of us with arthritis in our hands who can't type as quickly as we once could. Luckily, I can read very quickly!

Okay, there are my main reasons - feel free to take your best shot - I can take it. (I hope!)

I know I'm not alone, but unfortunately if you post on here and say you're happy, you are either accused of being management or advised that the rash of reasons to complain "just haven't gotten to you yet." It's a shame, but that's why most happy MTs don't post.

I honestly don't have any real complaints, other than I HATE ASR, but that is just about everywhere, not just MQ.

I don't think it's right to go into salaries in public but I make a very good living. I am lucky to have my primary most of the time, the same primary I have had since I started almost 5 years ago. I have had several really crappy supervisors but I really, really like the one I have now. My primary is a teaching hospital so we usually have plenty of work and they don't offshore, another plus. On the flip side of that, we have about 90% really, really bad ESL and I can literally go weeks at a time without having the same dictator twice. The only perk of staying in my primary is not having a lot of CPs to read, although I have been shifted around on occasion. We also hardly run out of work so I am blessed with that.

I know this is not the same situation for everyone and I am one of the lucky ones. That's not my fault.

Having said that, I have always worked extra when asked (even to help out at another hospital), have only called in sick 1 day in the last 5 years (I was in an accident and had a head injury with loss of consciousness), always work my schedule, work most holidays and will switch one of my weekdays with a weekend day to cover if someone else needs off. I think everything is give and take.

There have been a lot of changes that I have not agreed with, that have lowered my paycheck, that have changed my schedule for the worst and have generally pissed me off, but I have learned to just accept them and wait them out. I like what I do and am still in the position where I am able to compromise. If I'm ever not, I will not sit around unhappy and will look somewhere else. Until then I'm content with where I am.

Who in their right mind names a company "Happy Transcriptions?" In this day and age, all I see is "sad" MTs and, in my opinion, if "Happy Transcriptions" is still happy, they can only be messing even more with us poor "sad" MTs. All I can say is I am so "happy" I am so close to being on my way out of MT! ...

I recently took a job as an IC, thinking it would be great to make my own schedule. HOWEVER, I have to work when the work is there. There is no making my own schedule. The work flow dictates when I work. There is no work on Monday or Tuesday. Maybe a few reports trickle in late Tues, but then more work comes late Wednesday afternoon, then work Thurs, Fri, Sat, and by Sunday no work again. Account is for clinic docs, no acute care. I am an IC. I have read a website that says we as independents get the following. I would love to hear from each one who is in this category and tell me if you as an independent are getting the following: The site says many companies that hire ICs give full benefits including sick leave, health insurance, sign on bonuses, paid vacations, retirement plans. Coumadin 30 mg per day. Now, I want to make sure I'm not dreaming here, but that is completely incorrect, right? Maybe I'm having a brain lapse (been an MT for 20 years) but I want to make sure my thinking is correct that this dosage would probably be lethal? I'm going to leave a blank for the dosage, but I just wanted to double check with my MT friends. I have listened to it many times, and she is positively saying "30 mg per day." TIA!! ...

For the first time in a long time, I was in the cesspool. I spent 3 hours with an ESL serial dictator, that was speaking so softly I couldn't hear most of what he was saying, and what I could hear I couldn't understand. In one of the reports I only got 5 random words after spending a half-hour on it - and it was only 20 seconds long. What should we do in cases like this - when you literally just Can't Get It, and not for lack of trying. ...
