I almost don't like to come to this site b/c it is SO depressing! For a change, if you love your job whether it be with MM, N, or any other MTSO let's hear it. If you have plans about getting out of MT field and have something lined up, let's hear that as well! Let's post some happiness here for a change! By posting what you have lined up after MT career over, you may give someone else an idea about which direction to go in next. Believe me, I am bitter my job will eventually go to another country, but we still live in the greatest country ever! We can get through this, let's help each other if we can.

Well, I am happy...after about two to three weeks of applying and testing I got an offer letter today from a company and start ASAP. The reviews I have read good outweighs the bad, so I'm going with it. Thank GOD I can stop looking! I just want to work. And yes OP you are right. All in all we're a bunch of spoiled Americans who have it made in the grand scheme of things. I may vent from time to time, but all in all...I have it made. Good man in my life, GREAT KID, wonderful kitties, and food in the pantry lol. Now if I could only have a love affair with Ryan Gosling....hmmmm...

Exactly what I am talking about. Trying to upbeat, and people are disliking just random happy thoughts. I love lemons in my lemonade but I'll be danged if I go around sucking on one. Lighten up people! Positivity goes a long way for your health and mental well being! Personally, I am happy for the ones who are happy and wish happiness for those who are in a bad place right now.

Spoiled Americans who have made it in - the grand scheme of things?

I am finding it a little hard to figure out the meaning of that. Americans are hardly spoiled in the grand scheme of things, we just got surpassed by Canada for the best middle class and I have lived in another country and, believe me, the only way Americans are "spoiled" is having cheap prices for cheap stuff (usually from China).

Our wages and benefits are terrible on the whole in this country, so I am glad you got a new job, please be as positive as you like, you deserve it, but no way are Americans spoiled.

over 10 years ago, not my first by the way. I have money to spend as I like, travel when I want, buy what I want, have no in-law problems, my husband hard working and sits me on a pedestal, work part time only, have money in the bank, no problems at all. There are people who are very spoiled and as I am an American, then a spoiled American here.

I see what you mean. I think you have lucked out, indeed, but your original statement was:

I think you definitely have made it, if by making it you mean the life you describe above, which is something many of us would aspire to. But I disagree that we are all "a bunch of spoiled Americans..."

I think you are probably lucky to have found your husband, but I don't know about spoiled! People who consider themselves spoiled usually deserve to be spoiled, in my experience.

Good to know someone has the good life at least and doesn't have to worry about $, which is something many of us at the mercy of MTSOs do. Best of luck.

Different person replying here. Before the last marriage I definitely was not spoiled so deserving about being spoiled, wish it were so. As far as being at the mercy, that would never happen to me. No one can be taken advantage of, you as a person let that happen. The same old theme runs here year after year, never changing so I don't see much hope for others here.

marrying. Where did you get that from, out of thin air? Have you ever heard when you assume you are usually wrong? I think it is unbecoming when people just make up things, assume things that they make up. I will call that "Uninformed to the very end typical response from people who have no clue." I rest my case.

Happy with my MT work BUT. . . - see msg

not with the company. I worked as an IC for a company that paid very well and I did really well financially for a few years,so well in fact, that I fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a horse.

My husband and I only have associates degrees but hubby got into the IT business at the right time and place and he has done very well for himself. Decent house in nice neighborhood, paid for vehicles, college fund for our son.
I count my blessings every day.

However, after going through multiple buy outs I now work for less than half the pay I was making as an IC. I live in fear of having to sell my horse. I rescued her from a bad situation and selling a horse means it could ultimately end up on a truck going to a slaughter house. Harsh, but that's the reality.

Been doing MT work since 1989 and got paid more back then!

Sorry this took a negative turn but that's my story.

Sometimes things aren't so black and white. I love my job, salary, company. Yes, I am an MT from home. I am not that old, 40s, and recently was put on oxygen and given a new diagnosis of scleroderma. I used to be an inner city teacher. I could not do that work anymore. Working from home as an MT (which I have been doing for 8 years now) is a saving grace for me...keeps me getting a paycheck and contributing and keeping my mind off of things and forcing me to keep living...I am grateful for it everyday.

Who in their right mind names a company "Happy Transcriptions?" In this day and age, all I see is "sad" MTs and, in my opinion, if "Happy Transcriptions" is still happy, they can only be messing even more with us poor "sad" MTs. All I can say is I am so "happy" I am so close to being on my way out of MT! ...

I opened a ticket yesterday for ASR, asking them to have H and H expand out to hemoglobin and hematocrit for my account, and less than 24 hours I got a message saying it was done! Unbelievable. Seems crazy we would all have to do this, but if we all do this, maybe some positive change could actually come. I gave them the account, an internal job number, and my contact number and just stated what the problem was. My understanding is this was corrected for this ...

Most of the companies are paying 8 cpl for transcription and 4 cpl for editing. MQ is not going to stop until they reach that rate even though they may do it gradually as they have been doing. ...

This whole thing makes absolutely zero sense to me. Webmedx has 500+ employees, right? What management is going to make an announcement regarding a publicly traded company and then tell employees not to talk? I would think announcing changes like that would put them at risk of actually influencing the stock. And they have to know it's ridiculous to think that many people are going to keep the announcement confidential. To me, it seems extremely irresponsible of Webmedx any way I look at it ...

I interviewed for a job at a local, major hospital. It was interesting to learn that the HIM department is in the process of bringing transcription back in house, at least partially. It was claimed that their transcription company was not doing a satisfactory job. This might be good news my MT friends. Maybe this will be a trend?
