Do they not know that we can hear them farting?? - anon

Just venting, but gosh I am sick of listening to their bodily functions!!

Regarding farting dictators - sc

I know, doctors don't seem to realize there's a real human being on the other end listening to them!   Over the years I've heard farting, BMs complete with flushing of the toilet, and even sex while doctors dictate.   To me, the rudest is the chewing of gum or eating while dictating.  I can't stand that!

lol, just be glad we don't have smellaphone! Add to the list of rude dictator behavior of hollering to someone in the hall. Right in my ear!

Sex?! Are you kidding?! - anonymouse

[ In Reply To ..]
Now how exactly does sex come into play when dictating? I mean is the dictator having sex while dictating or watching porn or what? I never would have thought of that situation.

Sex, yes - I am not kidding - sc

A doctor was dictating his report per routine, I assume from home, because you could hear a woman's high-heels walking on a hardwood floor coming towards him, getting louder and louder. The high-heels stopped, his dictation slowed down as he apparently became distracted, and you could hear certain "sounds." Afterwards, you could hear him pressing "3" to go back and erase that part of the tape, but it didn't work. This was years ago when the dictation was recorded onto tapes, and a few of us shared the tape for laughs before passing it through the device to erase it.

I had one who urinated while holding his micro recorder (often). In the days of tape, several did not "shut down" properly and I heard them talking on the phone with some very interesting stuff, i.e., sometimes about "money" and ways to make more. Not all, just the usual "few" who I was nor surprised at.
Maybe she had a slice of watermelon and the sounds were her - slurping down her melon, so to speak. nm

I worked with this one doc who had no problems with tooting in public, like while standing right next to us as she signed out a patient or while she was standing at her podium thingy while she was dictating!

It was so bad, we kept a can of Lysol right there at the front desk and sprayed it when she walked away.

We could always tell when we were going to be hit with a SBD (silent but deadly) because she would kind of lift her one leg just a tad. Sometimes she walked away, sometimes she didn't. Nasty, just nasty. We always kept a candle burning too just for that purpose--probably illegal now a days with all these rules.

Holy crap all these memories...so glad I work from home now!

Had a preacher who did the same thing. Nobody sat beside him in Bible study, etc. He just let them rip and I guess you're just supposed to pretend you didn't hear it. Disgusting.

Farting, burping, in the bathroom - some docs don't get it - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
The first doctor I worked for was a big jerk, constantly making mistakes and yelling at the MTs and calling us names because he blamed us for what he'd done. Occasionally, he would turn on the tape recorder, record 3 minutes of his stupid Ortho report, then leave the recorder on in his pocket until the tape timed out at 30 minutes. And you HAD to go through the whole tape because sometimes he would record a second dictation in the middle of that 30 minutes. Heard entire patient visits (HIPAA violation, I'm sure), heard him eating lunch, farting, burping, going to the bathroom, calling people and screaming at them, making big bank/stock deals over the phone for hundreds of thousands of dollars, etc.

This happened occasionally for the 8 months I was there; I quit when it started happening several times a week and the MTSO refused to ask him to stop. They said I was being paid to listen to him do anything he wanted to on the tape. For 6 cents a line and verbal abuse, no, I was NOT being paid to hear that jerk urinate.

I had one dictator who would dictate from home, stacks and stacks of discharge summaries. He often would talk to himself, rifling through pages and muttering under his breath, looking for labs, complaining about residents, all kinds of stuff. One time he got angry at his cat for jumping on the table on top of his files. Another time, he said WTF! I was rolling.

On the bright side, same account, we had another doc who is so courtly in his manner. Always says the date, and a greeting. Example: Its Monday Jan 17, hope you had a nice weekend. Pt name....At the end he says "Thank you" without fail. Sometimes he even says, transcriptionist, if you could please mark this as a STAT and then send a copy to Dr X and PDQ facility....A real gem. Stands out as unusual in the land of lunch munching, gum chewing, talking into their armpits kinda dictators.

The worst, though, was the one who would dictate on his hand held recorder while in traffic, ON HIS MOTORCYCLE. Seriously.

thank God for our high-tech equipment - rx

ICs Want To Hear From You
May 30, 2014

I recently took a job as an IC, thinking it would be great to make my own schedule. HOWEVER, I have to work when the work is there. There is no making my own schedule. The work flow dictates when I work. There is no work on Monday or Tuesday. Maybe a few reports trickle in late Tues, but then more work comes late Wednesday afternoon, then work Thurs, Fri, Sat, and by Sunday no work again. Account is for clinic docs, no acute care. Is this the same experience you other ICs are having. I&# ...

I Clearly Hear The Dictator Say
Jan 26, 2010

Coumadin 30 mg per day. Now, I want to make sure I'm not dreaming here, but that is completely incorrect, right? Maybe I'm having a brain lapse (been an MT for 20 years) but I want to make sure my thinking is correct that this dosage would probably be lethal? I'm going to leave a blank for the dosage, but I just wanted to double check with my MT friends.  I have listened to it many times, and she is positively saying "30 mg per day."   TIA!! ...

Want To Hear From Happy MTs
Apr 07, 2010

Hello everyone, I am about to complete my MT training with an online school and I am finding that many people seem very unhappy with their positions, the companies they work for, their pay, etc. I am curious to know just how feasible it is to expect to find a job, be happy with it, and actually make a decent paycheck. What Do You Do When You Can't Hear Or Understand?
Nov 17, 2010

For the first time in a long time, I was in the cesspool.  I spent 3 hours with an ESL serial dictator, that was speaking so softly I couldn't hear most of what he was saying, and what I could hear I couldn't understand.  In one of the reports I only got 5 random words after spending a half-hour on it - and it was only 20 seconds long.  What should we do in cases like this - when you literally just Can't Get It, and not for lack of trying.   ...
