I wonder how many MTs feel pain when they get paid - it's really unnatural - I mean, they even named a candy bar "Payday," that's how great paydays are supposed to be! Of course, that candy bar was probably invented 80 years ago - a different time (well, at least for some people).

It ws in the news recently, that graduate teaching assistants/research assistants, I think in California, organized into a union, so they could get more pay - a lot of work is being shifted from tenured professors, to "adjunct" professors - who get paid less, no job security etc. Maybe we should be thankful we don't have the word "junk" in our job titles, the way "adjuncts" do. But maybe we could follow their example, union wise.

I'm with you there. I'm writing a list of grievances and sending information requests for union organizing as we speak.

I used to look forward to paydays. Now I dread them - because they depress me so badly. nm

MTs are constantly quitting. It is a matter of time before I am one of those who quit.

One day I got several reports in a row that was straight typing. I was so excited. I do almost 3 times as much straight typing work as I do VR. No matter how hard I focus and work, I never do more than 250 VR lines an hour...a little more than $8/hr.

Me too. Just last year it was double that. Don't - understand. I dread payday.

When I was an onsite MT, my take home pay was - appx. $1250/pay period - sm

(after taxes). I began working at home for a service. Pay went down to around $900 per paycheck. It's slowly been going down ever since. Even though I've worked like a dog, longer hours, more days per week, and make more lines/day, with the addition of VR to my work, currently about 70% VR, I'm now making only about $500/pay period. I hope here is a special place reserved in H**L for the "MTSO Mafia" that has forced poverty upon MTs. And I think the heads of AHDI should be stoned by angry MTs.

whehter it was mine or my husband's. Now he has gotten raises and makes significantly more money in the last 7 years while my deposit has shrunk by 50%. I surely don't have to note whose deposit it was any more. I know it is vain, but that has crushed my self-esteem. I feel like a free-loader in my marriage now. I don't feel like I get an equal say in purchases because I don't bring home the money. It has affected every area of my life including my mental health. Maybe I shouldn't feel that way, but I do. At this time in my life, I never expected to me making less than I did when I started as an MT 25 years ago.

I read not long ago an article on transcription and they said you could make up to $100,000 a year. I want to know where those people live. What a joke!

So, decided to rip the band-aid off early and check on my paycheck in Ultipro. After deducting my pto pay and using actual hours, production pay, Now at just over $8/hr. There was a day I made average $15/hr, and I was one of the slow, meticulous ones. Really not sure why I put myself through this pain but it renews my resolve every 2 weeks to get out of here. I just started, but the date I got was today for payday, yet it is not in my bank. They told me I do not have to wait for direct deposit, that it is right off the bat (rather than waiting the usual two checks or so with any other place). I made minimum wage for the past 2 weeks. Tell me again why I work for this company? I can now look for a job doing any stupid thing, anywhere, and not have to take a pay cut. Isn't that terrific? I got an email from HR today that my husband was 'accidentally' added back on my insurance. Note that he has not been on my insurance for almost a year. How this happened I have no idea. MAJOR VENT. My paycheck from MQ was deposited into my account today and it just sent me into a panic.
