NJA and make up time - anony

Been talking with another MT/ME about NJA and makeup  time.  She was told/asked by her supervisor to change shifts.  She brought up the fact that work was being shipped to India and was told that was not the case that she just  needed a different schedule.  How is that going to help? She is on day shift now.  People on second and third are running out of work.  Confused how changing work schedule will change  NJA.  Can't wait to hear what her manager says now.  Why is it so hard for them to just tell us the truth?

is making me crazy. Not knowing if I will have work on any given day is so stressful. I am searching other avenues, looking into school, trying to decide on a program, so that I can get out of this mess and have some semblance of a life again. I can vouch for the NJA on 2nd shift. I have several nights a week where I am out of work 20-30 minutes into my shift.

I too am stressed and crazed. I am 57 and hate the thought of going back to school. My age is working against me. I look at job ads and a lot of things I see want a bachelor's degree or specialized computer skills. I keep trying to remain positive but its overwhelming at times. I hate the thought of having to start over again at my age. Anybody want to hire a hard working old lady? HA.

I know just how you feel! I do have an AA, but where I live there is a huge Mexican population. Most of the jobs with the city require Spanish speakers. I'm trying to find a way into the Hospital here who actually still does its own transcription, but you have to "know" somebody. Trying to find that somebody so I can get my foot in the door.

I understand what you are saying. I'm 62 and cannot find another job. Courtesy of MM, I'm making minimum wage with 30+ years of experience and am losing my home, my credit has been destroyed. I have not looked for another minimum wage job. The skills that used to get me jobs easily now get me nowhere. I'm not qualified for anything anymore. Good luck with whatever you do. The only good thing going for me right now is that I can take early retirement if I want.

later this year. We even have a low cost health clinic run by ARNPs I can go see. If I were 60 or under, I'd be in terrible shape right now. I'm actually looking forward to not worrying about what MModal will do to me after all these years.

the only answers they give are change shifts. I went down that path once and still ran out of work. Our TCM sent out an email showing when we are in "need of people" and it was all second shift. The funny thing is that I check the status constantly to try to make up time on second shift and there is NJA on all of our accounts (North)or maybe 1 or 2 jobs. This game is too stressful for me. I keep praying to find another job soon before I sink any deeper. I am tired of being stressed out, bill collector calls, etc., and for what low pay. I hate to leave home to go to work, but at this point it is not worth it anymore.

In times of low work flow in the past, there have been new people on accounts, and my primary usually returned to work when the newer MT work was deemed unacceptable. There is a high standard of accuracy, and I am hoping and suggest that we wait it out. However, it is disconcerting to see my primary run out of work. I was told by CCM that when the secondary account runs out of work, the primary kicks in. Never was that way before, though, so not feeling secure at all at this time. I wish we could have schedules that we can work a 2nd job into.

The lack of committment to the MTs who have built the company's reputation with excellent work is worrying. I have been telling friends who work in other fields and know of our plight as MModal employees that I am very sad these days with the uncertainty and devaluing of our contribution to this company. Time will tell, for those of us who can still wait it out.

For the lack of professional forthcoming and the heartless reduction of our value by MModal and its managers, much like in LIFE when someone's behavior is hurtful and exploitive and lacking in understanding of others' situations, I apologize on behalf of MModal to my fellow MTs for the financial losses we are being forced to deal with, without the courtesy of explanation or reassurance or legal recourse from the top down. We are the bigger people,and I believe as I have seen over and over in my 30 years in the health care industry that the cheap policies always dissintegrate at the expense of great employees who move on.

I am not sure how much longer I can wait. I also dont get my primary anymore. I am getting NJA almost daily. I hope they figure it out before they lose another. I am actively searching now for something else, completely away from MT and when I leave, I will never look back.

New people on the accounts. I whole-heartedly agree, and I believe that is why the ASR quality changes, new people making the same mistakes over and over, and we have to make the same corrections. So much turnover with new people and old MTs leaving (I am also seeking other employment, who isn't these days?), no wonder the ASR engine is a bunch of crap, no consistency and we cannot make any money, even if the work is there.

"Newbies" have their work 100% checked by MMEs for eons. So if mistakes are being made over and over, they are being made by MMEs since they are sending the final report.

Not to mention, new employees are not necessarily new to the MT field. I have been doing this for 17 years and just started with MModal. I have actually worked on the account I am on at a different company and, besides, all crappy docs are alike regardless of what the account is.

I know we are all searching for someone to blame but instead of pointing your little fingers at fellow MTs, point it where it belongs with the greedy MTSOs and idiot software designers who don't know anything about medical transcription.

I guess I was blaming newbies, sorry. I know it is MM and the other companies to blame for not having clear rules or definitions of what is and is not acceptable. I mean, why do we have to come to this board to find out kilo versus kg? Why are these things not made clear to all MTs? It's the chaos and inconsistency that get to me. Again I meant no disrespect to newbies, either new MTs or new MM'ers, just frustrated and sad.

Thanks for pointing out the blame attitude in my post. It isn't the new employees but the new methods. We are threatened by 99% accuracy but production speed, and mistakes are inevitable. Now the doctors and outsourcing centers are at the keyboard as well editing. Is it worth waiting out the fallout from the changes?

Also do you recommend the Andrews School over the rest?  I am pretty sure I am going to do this but am wondering if I should sit in college class and do all of this or go with the Andrews School. I haven't made by 80 hours per pay in quite a long time (almost a year).  I sure there are some of you out there, too.  They must not mind paying their portion of my benefits from health insurance to life insurance, STD, an on.  What is up with that?  I have never had a call saying I have to make my hours up or get called on the carpet for only sometimes putting in 50 hours or less.  I just don't get it! ...
