I too took a huge pay cut - I was one of those grandfathered in at a higher rate years and years ago. If you want to stay in transcription, there is nowhere you can go and make more - the fact is, you are probably still making more than most other companies are paying per line. I have checked into some local hospitals and a lot of them do have their employees work from home, but they pay by the hour and the hourly rate is still less than what I make here. I guess the hourly pay takes some of the pressure off, maybe I wouldn't feel like a machine - but I'm staying where I am - the money is still good for me.
GET OUT! Go back to school :) - It is only going to get worse.

I am not being negative, but I am a realist. Seriously!!! Has it been getting any better with MQ for the last 5 years??? NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! Soon you will be out of a job because the company only wants CMT's who are Tier 3 and can edit foreigners.
Good luck if you stay. Other companies will follow MQ practices. Always been this way with this company for years or MQ will buy your company out.

Just ready money magazine who announced the favorite places to live. The top 10 cities average income pay was around 104,000 a year. The lowest was in Missouri at 77,000 a year.
What is our pay do you ask?? WAY BELOW POVERTY LEVEL. Makes me sick!!! I do not live in a third world country. Us grandfather MTs made average money and we worked hard for it. This was years ago and now they want to drop our pay even less than when I started 25 years ago???

It states MTs make an average of 32,000 a year. REALLY? It shows we make the less out of anyone in this company and yet MQ has the audacity to lower our pay even more. Do you ever call into a credit card company or answer a call from a telemarketer and they are of obvious Indian descent? Well, refuse to speak with them and ask to speak to an American!! Don't deal with companies that utilize outsourced labor. I tell everyone I can that when an Indian or other foreigner calls or answers a call to hang up as they are stealing our already too few jobs in the US!!! We need to fight back against the greed of these corporations any way we can!! There are so many more of us poor people than there are the rich and we can do something about this if we can just get the word out. It will take time but if we all try we can bring jobs back to America...Let's also vote out all those crooks in Washington, too!!

I am tier 3 and I no longer make 32,000 a year. The sad thing is that most of us no longer make that.
When I talked to my CCM she told me that she made 20+ an hour. Why is it that CCMs make so much more, and we struggle to make 10 an hour? That is not fair.

and #2. I haven't made over 20,000 a year in the past 4 years! Tier 3. AND it's getting worse. Last PP I was down again and had my "normal numbers"... The latest pay cut left me in a lurch. I guess I've got to go back to working 10 hour days, 7 days a week while the CCM makes 20/hr to tell me not to F11 VR reports and to take the lousy VR rate? is this okay with everyone!?

We were talking about the old days when transcription was considered a real job and she mentioned that she did take a pay cut and was down to 20+ an hour. I do not why she told me that either, but she did.
I hover around the low 20s myself. I agree that we are under-paid. I have been doing this job for close to 30 years and I now make less than when I first started.

The evidence that MedQuist is ready to bite the dust is everywhere. They hired a new President/CEO, they are cutting wages, losing accounts left and right, and closing warehouses. These are not things a company doing well does. They are clear signs the company is struggling--and vulnerable to collective action. We can actually help MedQuist INCREASE its productivity and client satisfaction by STOPPING all SPEECH RECOGNITION work effective September 1. The movement is under way and hundreds of MTs already have made the commitment to F11 all SR work effective September 1. Because their TAT threshold is so low, they cannot afford to terminate everyone who is doing F11 to get rid of SR. We support SR--if it increases productivity and you can actually do that at least twice as fast as you can transcribe. NO ONE is doing that. SR is merely a way for MTSOs to cut our pay--and we are calling them on it. If MedQuist fails, they will be bought out, just as Spheris was, and eventually the MTSOs will stop betraying us. What are they going to do, provide on-the-job training? Can you imagine providers' reactions to a newbie trying to transcribe a cardiac cath or CABG? (Good luck with that.) They NEED us--and WE do not need THEM. Same amount of transcription, whichever MTSO we work for. Pay us what we are worth--or the work will not get done.

MQ/CBay will have control of most of the US transcription soon and already are the biggest MT provider. MQ/CBay is buying up as many MTSOs as it can to that end. They are not failing, they are growing because they can offer a cheaper product by cutting pay/benefits/etc. to their employees that allow cuts in pricing to make their product the cheapest. Hospitals are looking for ways to cut costs and MQ/CBay provides them cheaper services than anyone else. It may not be right, but it is reality.
Instead of dreaming of something that is never going to happen like MQ failing and pay increases for MTs, your energy might better be spent learning another profession because MT is on its way out fast and no amount of "foot stomping" is going to stop "progress." I am doing just that and getting out of this profession after 15 wonderful years. I started in its hayday and don't want to be the last one to turn out the lights, so I am being proactive and moving on at my own speed and terms instead of waiting for the axe to fall and having to scramble for a job along with thousands of other MTs at the same time.

Have already been looking into this, but am currently getting 10.5 cents for transcription, but everywhere I have looked, all they are paying is 8 cents, also less for SR in comparison.
What do you do? All I can see is trying to get rid of outsourcing. How do we do that. We must try to contact all accounts of MQ, letting them know that MQ sends 50% offshore - they are probably not even aware of it!!!!!!

A hospital is a business like any other and the goal of a business this day and age is to make money. Money trumps the welfare of a person anytime. This has been true throughout history.
Don't know why you all talk about 2 pay cuts when actually we have had pay cuts from them for years. How many have gotten a "cost of living" raise from them over the years or even a raise? ...

So, since we have gone to nearly all ASR, and have taken a pay cut of 40% basically, I think it's time that burden be shared by all employees equally. I think it's time we hear that ALL employees have received a decrease in pay over what they made say 5 years ago. I will even be fair, since we have the CHANCE to make it up in production supposedly, and say just cut salaried employees pay by 25% instead of 40%, just so we can all be in this together.

Wondering if anyone has thoughts on this subject. My state does allow filing for UNDERemployment due to wage cuts. However, in the past when my employer was bought out and wages were cut, I did not realize this was an option. If it should happen in the future, does the employee just decline the offer of a job from the new company and then is fired and then file for under-employment or take the job and file for under-employment?
