Living in fear - anony

Posted: Dec 04, 2013

Just got e-mail stating I did NOT pass my audit.  i got 99.4%.  i have been with this company for over 15 years.  Lately, I stress out every day over this job.  I am sitting here waiting for a phone call from my TSM to discuss this.  I am quite worried.  Living paycheck to paycheck now.  Cannot afford to take another pay cut or lose my job.  If they do put you on 100% do you ever get taken off?

I have slowed down and really tried to be more careful/cautious.  Can't dwell on this.  Need to say positive.

Thanks for lettiing me vent.

I feel like now they are nitpicking. I look at the quality of the off-shore people and am amazed they are not held to the same standards as US employees. Maybe we should move to India? HA.

Maybe this will help ... - XYZ

I didn't pass my last audit either, it was the very first one that I ever failed and I too have been with this company for 15 years. I was at 99.5% which by the standards of every other profession is considered exceptional. But not MModal.

I picked up the phone and called a higher up in a different region who I trusted and who has worked with my TSM for many years. She told me that TSMs don't usually make a big deal about ONE failed audit. She said they are alerted to the score and they make note of it but mostly they consider it to be a one-time thing. Sometimes they don't even make a deal if it's 2 or 3 failed audits but once they get the idea that it's becoming a pattern, that is when they start pulling in the leash and taking corrective action.

I know this doesn't take away your fear, I feel it too. We all do to some degree. Just try your best to learn from the errors on your audit, slow down a little, and just do your best.

If you have an opportunity to take a refresher course (your TSM would know about the upcoming courses), I would recommend taking one. I took one myself recently and was surprised at the number of tips I picked up to help increase my production, and it also showed my management team that I'm being proactive and making an effort.

Good luck, and know you're not alone.

Thanks - anony

I am sitting here working myself up into a tizzy. I failed an audit last month. Sincerely hoping I do not lose my job. If so, don't know what I will do. I have no one I can move in with if that happens.

I'm a single mom and this is my ONLY means of income. I do get food stamps every month but that's the only form of outside help - I have lost a lot of sleep worrying about losing this job and I'm doing everything I can to keep it. You do the same too, OK? We're in this together.
Thanks - anony

Keeping fingers crossed. Just wish the phone call would come in. Let's get it over with.

Nuance? - Meh
[ In Reply To ..]
If ismply having enough money to live on is your chief concern right now, then I think you should apply to Nuance right now. They are looking for people, and I don't think they would have a problem with a score of over 99%. I don't think MModal pays any more than Nuance, does it?

Yeeeeah, I don't think the Nuance employees are doing any better - than we are

We might be 2 different ships but it's just a matter of which one of us goes under first.
And did you read the article - former slave
[ In Reply To ..]
that stated that 55% of Nuance's total operating expenses go to pay the salaries of 5 executives? That cannot be the norm for a successful company. Wouldn't surprise me if MM did the same thing.
absolutely - if you think
[ In Reply To ..]
If you think QA is bad at MM, spend a week at Nuance.

[ In Reply To ..]
I was in exactly the same place at one time with this horrible company. I was a wreck every time an e-mail came in, when the phone rang, every report that was QA'd and finally I had enough. You should start looking right now for another place to work and get away from MM, because if you don't and they get rid of you on some technicality, then what? It is better to have a job and quit, than the other way around. Again, how can any human being work for this company and take the horrible treatment they dish out and WHO, do they think they are. I sure do hope there is some justice in the world and this company gets what it deserves!

Sorry to have to say this but if they want to get rid of you they will use the audit as a basis for that; if not, they will let it slide until the next one. If they put you on 100% QA, you will lose 3 cpl for 95% of your work. Hoping for the best for you but just be prepared.

Wondering - anony

[ In Reply To ..]
How you know this? Can this info be found somewhere in the policies? Do you ever get off 100%?

TIA

Just happened to me - former slave

[ In Reply To ..]
but I promised not to tell my story again. As for the 95% - if you are only allowed to send 5% of your work to QA without penalty then the other 95% is paid at 3 cents less per line. You may be able to get off 100% QA but in the meantime you will be working for minimum wage. If you are willing to do this or have no choice then you're stuck and I am very sorry.

Same here - Just plain scared

I'm in the same boat. I haven't received the email yet but know it's coming. I'm scared to death. You're not alone.

Living In Fear Of Critical Error.
Jan 24, 2010

I've got this terror of critical errors.  I shudder every time I check my feedback, if I've left a marker (sometimes I've noticed they'll check the entire report, not just the marker.  Guess it depends on the MME).  What happens if you get a critical error?  Are you back on QA for awhile?  Do you get nasty e-mails?  Do you get canned?  40 lashes? ...

In Fear . . .
Jan 09, 2014

Making myself sick sitting here worrying.  Message to contact TSM to discuss latest audit.  Got a 98.2.  Already received corrective action a little over a month ago.  My first written.  Wondering what is in store for me?  Like everyone else, I can't afford to lose my job.  I keep looking but nothing else is coming my way.  Please pray for me.  Hope I am just borrowing trouble. I put in dates of service that were not dictated, so I made the mist ...

Facing My Fear
Jan 10, 2013

I know I have to leave this job at some point and go out into the real world, a real office, a real job.  Can anybody give me some advice on how to overcome my fears?  Journalling?  I can't afford counseling right now.  I have had to face these kinds of life changes in the past, but that was many years ago when I was younger.  I am not so young anymore and the thought of working outside the house is terrifying me.  I have checklists and have done extensive rese ...

How Do You Get Over Fear Of Typing After...
May 20, 2015

I have been doing this for over 8 years and was on the STAR team, like that means anything, at my last job for over 6 years and never had a problem and then they got bought and laid off everyone. I have had my present job which pays only about 2/3 of what that one did for 4 months now and it has been nothing but abuse for the last month. They told me I was a star 6 weeks ago and now apparently I am dog dirt. Ah, how fleeting stardom is in this industry. They told me I did not do well on a QA ...

It May Be People Like Turning Worm Who Caused MQ To React And Lay Off For Fear Sm
Apr 04, 2013

of a possible class action lawsuit. If you started taking things to the Labor Board you can bet MQ will be forced to let go of people. I'm not saying MM is not to blame because I DO believe they are sending 80% of the work to India for cheap labor and to avoid excessive taxes. They have a right to do that. MM provided work to American workers to provide some with jobs, not to make a profit. It's expensive to employ American MTs thanks to the US Govt, but that's for another day.&nb ...

Cant Seem To Make A Living
Feb 22, 2010

I have worked as a radiology transcriptionist for over ten years .  My pay has been cut in half and jobs are hard to find. I take tests and no one calls back.  I usually only have their email anyway.    I am now learning acute care because it seems for last few years it has been the only game in town.  However, I cannot believe how hard it is and I am getting paid the same as radiology.  It's becoming impossible to afford to live on this income, but I ...

Can You Really Make A Living?

I just accepted a job at AllType and the majority of my account is VC.  I have not dropped my other position I had as IC and no VC.  I am wondering, as this is my first time ever doing VC, can you really make a living at this?  I know I will NEVER make a fortune at this job but an 800+ paycheck every 2 weeks would sure be desirable.  Thanks. ...

Can You Make A Living As An MT?
Oct 16, 2011

I am thinking about going to The Andrews School to become an MT. I have taken the pre enrollment exam and they said i passed with a score of 84%, which i think is pretty good for not knowing what im doing. But,  today i was surfing the web and seen a post from someone that was ranting about how the school is a scam and after they completed the course they got a job where they had to work 60-70 hours per week and only get paid 3 cents per line. So, i was wanting to know if there is any Andre ...

Experienced MTs please tell me, can a person actually make a living at this. I am a newbie, working from home for the last 4 months.   I am feeling very discouraged by my paychecks.  I am just barely making minimum wage after working a full time schedule.  I like the work, but if I can't support myself doing this what is the point?  I would love to hear from those of you who have been doing this long term.  Thanks. ...

Living Well Off Of Our Backs
Mar 13, 2014

How does it happen that office personnel get in-house raises and are making far more than any of us when it is the transcriptionists who bring in the actual money?  We are solely responsible for the lavish lifestyles of CEOs and the salaries of management while we ourselves make next to nothing.  I remember years ago the office personnel making little wisecracks at how much we made while some of them with "degrees" did not make nearly as much.  Well, I guess that has been fixed no ...

I Am So Tired Of Living Under The Threat Of This 99%
Mar 23, 2012

Either I am being targeted or I will agree I am on an account that perhaps requires regular audits, but I just cannot take it anymore.  The last two audits I barely failed and I now I am assuming I will be terminated.  We are encouraged to speed up editing and in the process we are most assuredly missing incorrect ASR dictation, etc.  I mean no offense to any MTs who work for this company, but I daresay across the board this company does not produce MTs who continuously maintain ...

How Are People Not Making A Living?
Jul 06, 2012

THIS IS NOT A MEAN OR DEGRADING MESSAGE.  I am genuinely curious as I have been with them for almost 9 years and have never had a problem netting (after taxes) anywhere from 13-17$/hour.  I only work 50-60 hours every 2 weeks and I am bringing home 550--800$. I don't see how some people are working 80 hours every 2 weeks and aren't bringing home at least 1000$.  ...

Cannot Make A Living As MT Anymore
Mar 09, 2015

So sad what this profession has come to. I am 57 years old, have been MT for 25+ years, always been a high producer with good QA scores. I made a really good living until January 2013 when Nuance acquired company, I chose not to accept their terms of employment. Went to another US based company (?) part time. Just did income tax and was shocked. Needless to say, I will not renew my contract again. It's just not worth the aggravation anymore. The incentive and production bonuses ...

Is Anyone Really Making A Decent Living Doing Speech At 4 Cpl?
Jun 09, 2011

I am looking into to taking a second job to make extra money.  My main job pays by the hour as I work directly for a hospital and it is a combination of speech and straight transcription work.  Consequently, I'm thinking maybe taking a strictly speech job would be easier on my neck, shoulders, arms, and hands, but I don't want to be wasting my time.  If I'm not going to make any money doing it, why bother? So I would like to know if there are any MTs out there who ...

Is Anyone Able To Make A Decent Living As A MT Anymore?

I quit my in-house MT job, a job that I had held for almost 20 years, a little over a year ago because of a new boss who drove me and about 10 other people to quit because she was so hard to work for.  I thought long and hard about it before I quit, but could not see myself putting up with her for the next 10-15 years until I could retire.  She was making some of us physically ill because of stress.  I believe we may have been "creatively downsized".  Since I q ...

Supervisors Can Make Your Life A Living

I have known this for all the years that I have been in this business, but unfortunately I came face to face, so to speak, with this problem again recently.  I stated a point to my supervisor by e-mail, and very nicely, about some technical difficulties I was having, and no matter how I would explain it, she did not understand what I said.  Even the tech told her that it was not due to my computer, but the connection I had.  She said she would call me, and I said I would look ...

Is Anyone Able To Make A Decent Living At Landmark Doing VR?

Interview At Assisted Living Facility For MT
