and we're transitioning to Fluency. I haven't been changed over yet, but am dreading the pay cut. Right now my accounts on FutureNet are straight typing. I knew it wouldn't last forever. Sigh.

was a discussion not too long ago about people coming over from Acquisitions and were complaining about how their pay had dropped. Many believe that the folks there may be the ones who were always telling everybody that they must be doing something wrong not to have a great paycheck (not saying you). they did not tell us going in that we would be charged for them to put us on 100% QA. I have not had a minimum wage check in more than 12 years but I am getting one tomorrow. Hopefully things will get a little better next paycheck

did not know they charged to put you on 100% QA when first starting a platform. Are you saying they are paying you minimum wage for your training? I know when I switched from DocQscribe to Cornerstone, I was paid $10 an hour. Minimum wage in my state is $7.45 an hour. I guess, though, you could be in one of those states where 10 is minimum wage. Do you have any ASR experience? If not, you may also be surprised at that too.

I hate to say it but you will come over to Fluency from Cornerstone eventually. You may want to have a savings plan in place when that happens.

I've been in "your" world ever since my first (wonderful, independently-owned, small MTSO) company closed shop a few years ago.

I've been in the business for 25+ years, 3 companies, and doing VR for the last 10-15. Surprised and appreciative to have straight typing for a few months after being bought out by M*Modal (though should add I have 20 primary accounts scattered all over the country).

My concern is not only the VR pay cut, but the Fluency program and the low overall lph average (I think 220?). My original company used a Dictaphone platform (imported demographics, no nitpicky QA or verbatim corrections so program learned rapidly, universal formatting and specs, all editing done with home key shortcuts) and I averaged 450-500 lph. OTOH, I've worked on an M*Modal based VR program that was clunky, required lots of 'free' work/demographics, and rarely averaged over 300. It was so time-consuming to take your hands off the home keys to edit and use the arrows and CTRL, and I've heard Fluency is like that also.

I have grave concerns regarding our profession. Many of you do as well. I am not normally one who dwells on this sort of thing, but I have seen our profession go from being able to support myself to a profession of hardly making it. My company just told me they were trying to bring on some projects where there would be multiple people speaking, like in a conference/meeting, about healthcare. They said they wanted me to transcribe it and to include time stamps every 5 minutes. How do you keep track of who is speaking? Sometimes trying to keep up with 1 mubbling doctor is hard enough, but now 5+ people? At almost everyone of our weekly meetings there is a coworker who complains about everything. She is never happy and monopolizes each and every meeting. Let's face it, striking will do no good. Complaining about off-shoring has done no good, unless that will cease at a national level for all industries.
