At almost everyone of our weekly meetings there is a coworker who complains about everything. She is never happy and monopolizes each and every meeting. I know she doesn't speak for me, not sure about everyone else, but she speaks up as though she has conferenced with us all and that we are all in agreement. How do I politley tell her to stop whining unless she specifically speaks for herself? I am happy with my job, my pay rate, my hours.........everything that she wants to complain about.

I, for one, would just simply speak up for myself during the same - meeting. nm

I would address the supervisor directly in the meeting and ask if we can "all have a say." Whoever is hosting those meetings doesn't have very good control over them.

In fairness to this co-worker, perhaps she is the self-appointed voice for those workers who have lamented to her their grievances but who, when presented with the forum to communicate directly with someone who has the clout to effect a solution, become mute angels.

An effective moderator of a meeting encourages the accompaniment of a complaint with a recommendation for a solution. And, I agree. All attendees at the meeting should be given a time-frame of opportunity to represent themselves.

I think what I'm attempting to say is, the problem is not the alleged "communal voice," but the moderator of the meeting who is allowing the voice to "monopolize" the meeting.

We used to have one person who would just interrupt anyone who started to speak. The host/moderator would just sit there and let him do it. Nobody got a word in edgewise.

It's hard on a phone conference to know who wants to speak when, but it is up to the person holding the meeting to gain control when it's obvious someone is hogging all the time, or worse, interrupting when someone does try to talk.

As for that "voice" that needs to tell how all are feeling, I agree to a point, but it becomes senseless for the "voice" to go on and on about the same thing.

In my opinion, nobody needs to have a meeting once a week anyway, unless there are continuous problems with quality or things on the account keep changing.

I'm pretty sure I know the meetings you are talking about. What you are leaving out (and by doing so,you are making the QA supervisor look bad to others on here judging from the comments from others that the person in charge of the meeting must not have control over it) is that the QA supervisor always gives everyone plenty of time to ask questions. She asks more than once during every meeting if anyone has anything she would like to ask or comment on. She will not conclude the meeting before she has given everyone time to speak, and I do appreciate that about her. My answer to your question is this: Simply speak up if you have something to say. You're given the opportunity every week, so why you don't speak up during the meetings but choose to come on this board and bring up the issue is baffling. Just speak up when the supervisor asks if anyone has anything to address. Tell everyone you're happy with your job or tell them anything else you would like to politely discuss.

I have had Shorthand for about a year and have never had a problem with it. Recently I noticed some of the words I have in it type out wrong. Costing me a lot of time to have to go back and fix. Sometimes if I erase and type again, then it will come out correctly. Anyone have a similar problem with Shorthand? Would it have anything to do with my license expiring in about 3 weeks? ...

Let me tell you what happened to me the other day. I am traveling next week to Houston. I called a hotel there to make reservations. I said my name and then since it is sort of a long one, said let me spell that for you. I had a horrible sound quality report from a dictator I'd never done before. I have the Standard version 10 and had to deal with a lot of bug issues with it. I love the program, but I didn't like the constant problems with trying to download updates, etc. (I have Vista). I purchased and installed this application for some classes I am taking. I thought it would save time with notes etc and it does ------ when functioning properly. For the last several weeks I have been sending reports for a particular MD to QA with lots of blanks. No problems with other MDs or PAs, just that one. Found out a couple of days ago that I'm not the only one sending lots of blanks back for the same MD. I'd like some advice from those out there that are using this. I have 32-bit Vista. I have heard that version 10 is a nightmare to install with cruddy tech support from Nuance. Therefore, I am considering going with version 9 Preferred if I can find it. I can't afford the Medical software, but I have heard of MTs having good results with training the Preferred version to medical words.
