If applying for PT with MQ can you pick your hours? sm - wondering

After you fill out the application and get through the hiring process, if you're going to be part-time does MQ tell you when they want you to work or can you pick your own hours?

Save yourself a BIG headache and heartache, don't apply for a job at Medquist. You will be making less than minimum wage. There are plenty of other jobs out there.

I was a full-time MT for over 10 years with a large company (Spheris.) The the Q came calling and "bought" us. It was downhill. I went to PT after the first pay cut to work more hours at my other PT job for more $$! I was fortunate, I had an awesome supervisor who set me up with a 12-hour window since sometimes my other job would run late. I don't know if this is the standard practice with Q or not. However, after another pay cut, then logging on one Monday morning to find my account of 10-plus years vanished (to Inida?) I quit to accept a FT position with my other employer. I could see the writing on the wall, I'd be working 7 days a week trying to get my hours in on awful accounts, and eventually if I was lucky be at minimum wage. So go work at Wal-Mart PT if you can, you'll end up better off in the long run!!! Not trying to be negative, just want to save a waste of time/effort and the stress of trying to be your best when you'll be rewarded with pay cuts if you are making more than "industry average!"

I will: You can sort of pick your own hours. You'd have to talk to your CCM and work out something depending on coverage needed, but in most cases you could probably pick your own hours.

However, I DO have to agree with Patty on one thing: There are better jobs out there. If you've been reading the MQ board, believe me, most of it is TRUE and happening...the pay cuts, the NJA (no work avail) the cesspool (having to do many different accounts at once), the off-shoring of more and more work to India. It's all true. Just not sure it's not true for most other companies, too.

About a week or two ago I was offered a job with MQ. I was going to work PT. I did not get to choose my shift/hours/days. I did ask about some airline reservations I had made a year ago that I needed for early 2012. I was told I would need to quit and then re-apply afterwards and start hiring process all overr again. So, I don't think you have much say in what you want. It is based on their needs.Unfortunately/fortunately, however you want to look at it, I declined the job offer.

When they hired me, the recruiter told me they need people nights, and they didn't need people to just work days like I wanted. I only wanted part-time, so they put me on 5 to 9 initially, then when Medquist took over, they added 1 hour each day to make 4 to 9. I asked if I could work afternoons on Wednesday because of a meeting I attend on Wednesday night, and they let me work 2 to 6 PM. I have been doing this since Oct. 2009.

After browsing around in FIESA, I found what looks to be an instruction manual for the people who audit us and after looking at it, it sure does look like they can pick and choose which reports to audit, rather than randomly. I have also had the worst dictators audited more than the good ones. Of course it's easier to find a mistake that way and easier to keep our pay down! Here's the deal, I'm not saying I cherry pick every minute of my shift, but if I have done one after the other report of difficult dictators, then I will go in and assign myself 2 or 3 jobs to give myself a break. Wow, I'm a little confused. I hope to train for coding for if/when my in-house transcription job dries up, so I asked around the hospital about whether I should get my RHIT.
