IMPORTANT! Every MT/MME needs to read this! - Shining Light

Posted: Mar 03, 2010

Just spoke to someone I know in TAA/Unemployement office.  FIRST TIME RIGHT is a gray area. We can fight this because it is a gray area.

It is not right that if a doctor dictates and we cannot understand what they are saying for sure and we can get docked in pay, literally take money from us.  IT IS NOT LEGAL.

That is probably why the big bosses are on this board to see what they can get away with.  We have every right to fight them.  It is just wrong!

I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE BUREAU OF LABOR AND INDUSTRIES.  YOU NEED TO CALL YOUR STATE BUREAU OF LABOR INDUSTRY.

You need to tell them what is going on.  Also about this new schedulesource and being locked out.  They will direct you what to do.  I was told I need to send a letter to notify the company that this is not right.  I told them that someone was fired from replying to the email (TWEETIE I PRESUME), so someone is contacting me this afternoon.

Also emailed a lawyer about this and waiting to hear if we have grounds or what can be done.

GOOD LUCK.  HOPE THIS HELPS.

As an interested non-MQer who reads this board - what is First Time Right?

It sounds rather punitive. How does it work?

no one knows for sure - we get docked pay though

[ In Reply To ..]
if you submit more than 5% of your work to QA, you get docked 3 cpl.
No one knows for sure the calculations to get the 5% or if they dock your entire pay for the day, week, month, year.

Heck, I think I even read in the e-mail that they take your first born, providing it is a female and can type.

I hope you are correct, but I just don't believe it. I think they can do whatever they want because if we don't like it, we can quit. There is no union, so no one to back us.

Any company can lower pay, demand more hours, anything they want basically, if you don't like it, leave. And that is what they are banking on folks...

Are there still laws against a hostile work environment. If this does not qualify as one, I don't know what does! How much more hostile can you get in a cyber-employment level than to play "head games" with our pay, our hours, et. Many of us here have been an MT for many, many years, paid our dues and should demand a little respect. I think this hostile environment is something that should be ckd out. I know it was on the books of the Labor Board in my State a few years ago and think I will ck it out again. I'm really tired of this crap.

I don't know how any of us could prove hostile work environment when we work at home.

I totally get what they are doing to us, but there is nothing keeping us here. If we dont like the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I have been here many, many years and have paid my dues and would love respect also. Just aint gonna happen.

People all over are taking pay cuts, its the economy and the Q will cry the biggest baddest wolf in that game... you know it.

If we all worked in New Jersey, and all 5000 (or however many are left), all went to the labor board, they would do something, but we are all spread out... no one cares.

I hope there is something somewhere that could help us all out. I really do. If there is anything I can do to help, I will!

BUT can they take pay away that you RIGHTFULLY EARNED. - I think that is a gray area too.

[ In Reply To ..]
NOt sure that they can just yank pay away. You typed the work, you earned the agreed upon per line pay, so now they decide because you asked for help, they will keep part of your pay?

I don't know if that is legal anywhere!

This sounds right to me ... sm - deadmttyping

I believe info you got is probably correct. I'm going to look into local State Bureau (thanks for your post).

It occurred to me that this could NEVER happen in any other job. -- Example: you are a clerk at Walmart and they want you to work faster, so they tell you "if your cash drawer at end of shift is not at least $$$, then you will be docked 50 cents/hour in your pay." It would be HEADLINE national news.

There is NO other job that would even consider this crap. I was going to contact my lawyer several months ago to see if MQ has a "hostile work environment." this usually refers, I believe, to sexual harrassment on a job. But, to me, I would rather be sexually harrassed then to have these "changes" and emails coming daily. We are all feeling "mentally harrassed".

Lastly, I have chronic LOW BP and on visit my doctor last week my BP was 140/90 -- outrageously HIGH for me and I know exactly what's causing it. Maybe MQ is hoping they can get rid of all of us who don't quit by causing us to have STROKES.

sounds right to me - spitfire

[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, hostile environment usually does refer to sexual harrassment, however, a few years ago when I looked into it, the interpretation as told to me was on the order of anything that would prevent you from producing your best possible work due to any type of harrassment, including environmental if you need something special for work, mental or psychological just as in mental abuse in a marriage as grounds for divorce. I don't know, just thought I'd throw that out. Am still going to ck on it again. Will have to contact an atty as I'm far, far away from a law library now !

Great work! This is the kind of info we need. That is what has been driving me crazy. It's all too gray. I will definitely call my state bureau and I will also write a letter if that is what it takes. Maybe I will use the legal service I pay for through the company. That would feel good.

I will be looking for any further info you have. Thanks so much for this.

Thanks for the info. I'm in Texas and will definitely be calling my state agency, etc. Hope everyone out there calls their respective state bureau.

The HITECH Act: Will You Be Fine, or Fined? FRANKLY, OUR GOVERNMENT SUCKS BIG TIME!  I AM STILL USING A WORK COMPUTER, IS THAT GOOD OR NOT??? Under the new Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) that takes effect this upcoming February, you as a transcriptionist could now be directly liable for any private health information (PHI) that is stolen or somehow reaches the public domain. That could include any transcriptions you produce that are emailed ...

if we are to be held responsible for any kind of so-called 'security breach' which can be so easily manipulated to either just get ridf US MTs or at least make life a iving ____ for those of us left in these jobs (for example, if your reports are not 100% perfect - because 98-100% would no longer make sense because an error is an error and all are a security risk and breach - (this is so ridiculous I almost cannot even write it)); however, an MT can and will be fired for such?  Im ...

If You Are An RMT, Is Having A Degree Still Important?
May 16, 2011

IMPORTANT! NEW CAREERS FOR MTs.
Aug 18, 2011

I have been enrolled in college for the last year while still working.  Found out today about a whole new carrer that has just come out and being created because of EHR/EMR and now being offered and will become even more popular. My teachers in college informed me of a meeting they had in the city where I live.  This meeting was held with physicians, PA's, NP's, MT's, Medical Assistance, nurses, etc.  Because of EHR/EMR, most doctor's (about 78%) do not like ...

Important Question
Oct 21, 2012

I am asking for opinions and suggestions only...no bashing, please. I "worked" for a client as an IC for a total of one week, two dictations, equalling about MAYBE $40 in pay. I have not actually counted lines, so I don't know. This "client" and I did not see eye to eye on MANY things and I decided it was not in my best interest to continue working for her, so I gave notice that I was "done."  She continues to email me even though I have stated in no uncertain terms that I was done, a ...

What Do Hospitals Deem Important?
Oct 06, 2012

My friend works for a local hospital that I used to work for.  That institution just recently outsourced their MT department to Nuance. The hospital has hired a "Life Coach" to direct their "Learning and Development" department.  They have announced that the L&D section will be "massively expanding" in the near future.  Their mission is to come up with new worthless slogans (like they one they had in place when I worked there) to put on posters plastered all over the hospital ...

The Big, Important Meeting Today
Apr 17, 2013

I'm surprised no one has protested the fact that absolutely nothing was said about the NJA situation today, or what that means to our future working for MM. Why are our jobs no longer available? Will more be forthcoming? Will we be stuck with either no work or work from many different hospitals we're not familiar with? What is the immediate future of the American MT/ME? This whole situation depresses me terribly. Seeing our profession go under is like experiencing the death of a ...

Lack Of Important Communication

There really needs to be a change in the level of meaningful communication.  A couple of weeks ago all of a sudden, there were no status updates.  It went from 2 a day even on the weekends to nothing for a week.  When I finally got one, the supervisor explained they were trying to determine how the work flowed without the status updates.  If I was a supervisor, that would scare me because it sounds like they are looking at ways of having less management personnel.  But, ...

3 Very Important Questions Have Surfaced So Far
Mar 11, 2014

Before moving forward and signing a contract for this position, it sounds like the 3 most important questions that keep coming up are: 1.  What can we expect to be paid after the training is complete.  If this isn't important to you then no big deal, but for most of us it was a very important element suspiciously missing from yesterday's email and no one should EVER sign a contract of employment (especially for 2 years) without FIRST knowing and being clear about what they w ...

It is INTENTIONAL, you will be FIESA'd to death if you are not already.
