Hospital acct now M-Modal - Abbie

Posted: Feb 05, 2014

Hospital is going to M-Modal. M-Modal said they would hire the in-house MTs. But I see on the board there is not a lot of work. Hospital normally has work 24/7. I guess this will change with MM taking over, right? We will have 23 jobs cut out here. So, do I have a chance of making money with MM? I am sorry, I am not being disrespectful, but it is making me almost sick.

To be blunt, I would come up with a plan to get out while you can - anon

You're going to have MAJOR issues with this company. I would make a move right now while you still have time.

And one more thing - don't believe ANYTHING they tell you ... it's all lies. ALL.

This won't be a good move for you - XYZ

[ In Reply To ..]
Just scroll down and read some of the posts by current employees to get a grasp on what you're getting yourself into. Whatever you're used to, working for the hospital - plenty of work, decent income, high morale - kiss all of that goodbye because it's all about to go away. The fact that there are so many on this board filing for partial unemployment and trading in vacation days just to supplement their income should be a huge red flag.

If you can find another type of position in the - hospital, I would look

[ In Reply To ..]
into applying for it. Sorry for the bad news, but MM sucks. I was making great money until MedQuist (now MM) took us over in 2003. They have steadily chipped away at our pay and benefits. My income is less than half what I was making then. I have about 23 months til retirement or I would be driving 75 miles to the nearest big town to look for work. Good luck to all of you.

Things they will tell you ... what they tell people at EVERY buyout - MME

[ In Reply To ..]
"You will be able to keep working on your same account ... forever".

"You will continue to make your same rate of pay."

"Your accounts will be all/mostly straight typing."

"You will have plenty of work to keep you busy."

The list goes on and on ... if I only had a penny for every time someone whose hospital or company was bought out came here afterward, in complete surprise at the lies they were told. They tell everyone the *exact same* line, trust me it will all change once you come on board. CLASSIC bait and switch.

Hospital Account - MT2

[ In Reply To ..]
First off, wow, how did you last so long working at a hospital? That is something and oh so sad, that MM got their hooks into that place. Like the other posts, run and don't look back; don't even give it a try because for the 2 or 3 months you waste working for MM, you could be out finding another job. This place does nothing but lie and cheat the MTs. You will be so unhappy working for them and I would spread the word and I would write a letter to the hospital to where you work and tell them exactly what this company is all about; outsourcing to India, the way it treats the MTs and so on. Of course, they won't care; it's all about money and the hospital will save, MM will make a ton of it and you will get the shaft. Don't consider it for one second!

And another thing, - Been There

[ In Reply To ..]
When I applied, they offered me the moon; great account, good money, etc. First off I didn't get the account, I got some horrible one, so much so, that I had to request to be changed to another one and I went from the frying pan into the fire. They did not pay what they said they would and despite that, I was naïve enough to still take the job. It was pretty good for two months and a friend of mine who also worked for them, kept telling me, just wait, just wait and lo and behold, two months to the day; it all changed. I was put on voice recognition (VR) and had one ESL after another, so that I could not get any lines whatsoever. The VR made my neck hurt and I could not get used to using only Ctrl keys. I was hounded and I mean hounded daily by QA, no matter what I did, no matter how many reports I would proofread, I was sent back a litany of errors and critical errors that bordered on the absurd. I am a qualified MT as well, so this was just horrible. I lasted eight months and OMG don't spell out a number under 10, you will be boiled in oil!!!! I finally found another job after what seemed like an eternity and quit on the spot. I never ever wanted to go back, nor would I give them the satisfaction of playing by the rules with them. To this day, I still hate this company and post constantly about how horrible it is, in hopes of MTs either quitting or not working for them at all. They need to be put out of business or let them send it all to India, which they are just about doing anyway. Don't be tempted by any offers either. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was dealing with a recruiter; I thought I was dealing with someone who actually worked for MM and knew about transcription; what a mistake that was.

My two cents (see what I did there? lol) - poorhouse

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, I couldn't resist spelling out 'two'! LOL My hospital also dumped their MTs and sold out to this hellish place, just a few months ago. I was told I'd have my hospital's dictation...nope. It's nearly 100% VR...hardly anything is straight transcription. Plus, the woman who 'trained' us on their platform flat-out admitted that she had never been an MT ever!!! omg This company truly is a joke. Oh, also, word has gotten back to me from the hospital, via employess /and/ doctors, that they also despise mm. HAHAHAHAHAHA That was great to hear!

While you're reading the posts on this board - keep in mind

[ In Reply To ..]
... that "NJA" stands for "No Jobs Available". Yeah, it literally happens every single day.

Sorry to hear that...I was part of another MTSO not hospital sold to MM..sm - Dead and dying

[ In Reply To ..]
and after a few months my pay dwindled to about 1/2 to 3/4 what I made before, and they expect 99.7% audits now (was 99.6.) MM is the spawn of he devil. Hope you can find something else. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and I shouldn't have! Worst place I ever worked except for the cost of insurance.

Oh, no - Abbie

Another MT and I job share. We work 10 hour days, 7 days on, 7 days off. If we work 5-1/2 hours on the other side of 5 pm, we get shift diff. I know that is gone. We did not have to use vacation time other than a day or two here and there because of the 7 on, 7 off. We got full benefits but no overtime with that schedule (which was fine). I am sick at heart. We tried everything we could. Gave up the shift diff, said we would take benefits only for us and no family or anything. Would go back to alternating weekends with that kind of shift. The hospital said they would save 150,000 a year but the new company would "do us right" but now I hear once MM gets in, VR comes in, and the work goes out of the US so no US MTs get the work. It's sick.

Yep, sounds like you have a pretty good grasp - on what is about to happen

[ In Reply To ..]
... but those are only just a FEW ways this company will screw you. You might work your old accounts for a month ... two? After that, you, and your accounts, will be thrown into the "pool". You will be working on many dozens of accounts, never staying with one long enough to get comfortable. And your old account that you worked so hard for? It'll be tossed into the "pool" too, and several dozen other MTs will scavenge it like they were chewing on a steak bone because we're all starving for work around here.

Just hearing you say a new account is coming on board is probably making a few dozen of us wipe the drool off our chin. I for one HOPE your hospital is in the west because I haven't been able to get my 40 hours in for weeks.

M*Modal doesn't really want the hospital MTs, - all they want is the accounts.

[ In Reply To ..]
They'll tell everyone they'll be hired on, that not much will change. Then your pay will start getting cut. Eventually the hospital where you worked for so long (and know well) will be given to someone else, across the country or on the other side of the globe. You'll be put on multiple unfamiliar, crummy accounts, and will then be nit-picked, threatened and harassed until you quit in frustration.

Do everything you can to get a different job at your hospital - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Lunch lady, whatever.

MM (and Nuance, for that matter), will tell you and your manager and director anything. The manager and director will believe it so that they can sleep at night. Please believe me when I say that MM cares not one iota about you. They are just using you to get through the takeover transition. Ensuring that you don't bolt for the door now, before they are ready, is what they fear.

You will have no safety net whatsoever underneath you and your pay will be slashed. You will live in constant uncertainty, fear, and dread. When I finally left the madness and scratched and clawed my way back into a hospital position, I was a shell of my former self and was like a cornered animal. It took me a very long time to relax enough to get out of survival mode.

There are so many people here who were duped and would give anything to have any sort of job back at the hospital again.

And doing what?? - SamMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Most MTs, hospital or MTSO, have been doing this for years and years. If this so-called "profession" did have a chance of transitioning into any other job in the hospital, it is unlikely he/she would be hired in that capacity without experience.

Abbie, just went through this myself - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
My company was bought by MM a year ago. Here is what happens.

You will continue to work your account as you normally have, same hours, and same pay for MAYBE six months. You sign a contract agreeing to future changes in everything. I was good for 6 months, and then our pay was cut. After that our shifts were changed. After that our PTO was cut. After that our work started disappearing. At that point, we were trained on different accounts for about an hour by someone who did not know the accounts and could not answer our questions. There are pages upon pages of account specifications, all different for each account. If it takes you too much time while becoming familiar with them, you do not make your production and/or hours requirements and you lose PTO time. After you do learn these accounts, when you run out of work on your account and go to them as a backup, there is not much work there either.

Many people will be trained on your account because MM expects many of the MTs to leave once they get here, or your work will be sent to India. MM has very strict TATs. In fact, they do not allow a report to even near TAT. If so, they put another MT on the account.

You will have to clock in and out, in and out all day long until you reach 39 hours for the week. Normally, any MT can edit/transcribe 1200 lines a day easy if the work is there. That is not so here. You have to keep checking your whole shift and even beyond that. If you do not make the 1200 lines in a day because there is no work, you will have to make up your time and lines on another day, or use whatever PTO you have accumulated.

Here, gone are the days of working mainly on a primary account where you are familiar with the doctors, formats, and specifications which make you a more productive MT, who produces quality work, and makes you more $$. It just does not work that way. MM has a high turnover of MTs, which keeps us all moving from account to account, and many times there are simply too many MTs on the accounts, which hurts us all. It is sad what this company has done with the MT/editing process. We receive countless and worthless emails with useless information and instructions simply to justify someone's job.

You will be good for a little while, but I would take that time to be checking into other possibilities, even for lower pay than you have now. You will actually make more in the long run and be much happier with your job elsewhere. I am of an age that this is all I have done and it is very difficult to get a job outside of MTing, but as soon as I am able, I will gladly take less money.

To Abby - All on the same page

I have read every one of these posts and not one contradicts the other. Everyone pretty much says the same thing; especially the ones that were forced to come and work for M*M. That speaks volumes; like one post said, "RUN" and don't even think about it. Take UE if you can until you find something else, anything. I agree, you might not be able to get on in the hospital you work for, so look elsewhere. It is disheartening to hear how your dept tried so hard to stay on and the offers you made to them. It is all about business and money now, you were done before you started, but I applaud your efforts. My dept didn't even try and our supervisor lied to us because she thought she would say on; alas she was booted out like the rest of us and it has never been the same. BTW, I don't work for M&M any longer, but I did at one time and believe me every word you read here is the absolute truth.

My Hospital Outsourced To M*Modal.
May 05, 2015

So I've been a transcriptionist for 15 years, the last 8 years I've been self-employed, contracted to a local hospital (recently bought out by a bigger hospital), and several family practices and nursing homes.  The hospital decided to oursource transcription to M*Modal, with each of us getting an "offer" from M*Modal (thus preventing the employed transcriptionists from being able to draw unemployment, nice).  I accepted the offer while still looking into other jobs locally, ...

New Acct - Training? Why?
Aug 24, 2010

I am starting a new acct tomorrow.  I sure hope I dont have to go through training.  We never have been trained on the cesspool that we get, we just get new accts when our regular work is caught up, so why do we need training on a new account?  That is ridiculous.  MQ, please just let me work and make a living.  Stop with all this changing CCMs and assigning new accts.  This coming pay check I probably will have 2 days on it if that much.  Geez.. ...

Do You Communicate With Other MTs Within Your Company Or On The Same Acct?
