Food for thought - sm
Posted: Nov 05, 2014
Recently the bus drivers in my area got sick of the way they were treated, literally...They called out sick and the next DAY had a 2% pay increase. Dare someone to arrange a case of "MT flu" Im in are you?
This idea is brought up oh about once every couple of months or so - and no one does a thing - NM
[ In Reply To ..]
NM
Which is precisely the problem. MTs never do - anything but lie down and take it.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Exactly ... I think I've heard this EXACT same idea every few months for the last 20 years - MME
[ In Reply To ..]
Everyone talks about it, plans it, says they will participate and then ... nothing. I'm sure the management gets a good belly laugh out of these kinds of posts because they KNOW nothing will ever come of it.
What people seem to forget - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
They can't replace US bus drivers with workers in India who will do the job at a fraction of the cost.
Great idea! You do that so when you're fired I'll - have more work!
[ In Reply To ..]
x
They cannot fire you for being sick - its illegal
[ In Reply To ..]
and all you have to do is go to the doctor and tell him you have a backache and show you went...they cant prove anything..BUT you can sit here and on a regular basis and do NOTHING and sit and take the pay reductions and the work going to India and do nothing..How well has that worked for you?
No complaints - here.
[ In Reply To ..]
I have plenty of work and make a good living. Yup, some work goes to India. Not all the work goes to India and not all the work will ever go to India.
Look at how nurses do their walkouts and I'd suggest you do it the same way they do it in order to secure their jobs. They give a day's notice that they won't be in to work that day. Why do they do that? Because they care about PATIENT CARE. You know, that thing we're all supposed to care most about as MTs. If you're unhappy with your job, quit. There are lots of us who could use the extra work to fill in the gaps when there is no work, and maybe we'll even start getting overtime again.
Oh honey, they wouldn't fire you for being sick - x
[ In Reply To ..]
They would put you and everyone else "sick" that day on 100% QA where you'd make only 3 cpl and get dinged for every mistake until you'd either quit or be fired for being under 99.6% accuracy. This board is public and yes your HDSM and mine do read every word. Hey, y'all!!
they bank on fear - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
They don't have enough QA to put us on 100% QA, besides, QA should be in on this anyway...
And if your not saving every single - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
piece of information on audits, feedback, anything having to do with your job performance, you have learned nothing from this board.
and by the way - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I rarely, if ever, run out of work here..they cannot replace all of us with Indians, it will not work..But keep drinking their Kool-aide.
Who is "they" and "their"? - Wondering
[ In Reply To ..]
And where do you work, comma splicer? "It" is just a job, done on a computer, which can be done anywhere. Your job is no more precious than our jobs are/were.
Ah, jealousy - x
[ In Reply To ..]
I can't tell if you're jealous that SM only rarely runs out of work or if you're jealous that SM is capable of critical thinking. Anxiety is not healthy. Anxiety over something as silly as all your work suddenly on a random Wednesday in November being gone and off to India is called irrational anxiety. The cure? Stop visiting MTStars and believing every word spoken here by the others with irrational anxiety. Make a plan for what you'll do if the worst was to happen (which it won't...hasn't in 23 years that I've been told it's a field that will no longer be here in 5 years).
Patient care? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
If you think that patient care would suffer one little bit with a 1 day call out your are insane. The docs have hand writtent notes in the charts, that are there for a backup. No they are not pretty like a transcribed report, but they are there. No one in their right mind would solely depend on a computer for anything important.
Make up your mind - Comma Splicer
[ In Reply To ..]
One post you're for it, the next you're against it, and then you're for it again.
What?? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I am saying this could be done and patient care would not suffer as someone suggested. The reports will just be a day or so late and the docs will be screaming for a nice transcribed report rather than their handwritten notes.
In the past it could have worked. But MTs just - dont have the conjones to do it.
[ In Reply To ..]
it's not that - just
[ In Reply To ..]
it's that no one would notice we were gone.
Strikes work because they get everyone - involved.
[ In Reply To ..]
Out of thousands and thousands of employees in the U.S., this post has reached maybe 100, maybe, and some of them don't agree with going on strike. In order for a strike to work, you need the majority of the work force to agree with and participate in the strike. If we were in an office setting, it would be possible that an entire office could be "sick" and that would send a message. Working at home and not knowing who is in our POD, it'll never ever work.
They would just shift the work for the day to the - 2000 Indian workers.
[ In Reply To ..]
We are a dime a dozen to them and nothing more.
They need about half a dozen Indian MTs per US MT, not to - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
mention US QAs to repair the garbage before the client sees it. They don't have the qualified manpower to cover it all over there, or else we wouldn't be here.
LOL keep telling yourself that. Simply not - true anymore from their business perspective.
[ In Reply To ..]

It's a fact. Their MTs produce much, much lower line counts, and - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
then the reports go through 2-3 levels of India QA, then usually another level of US QA. I don't know why you think it's funny or untrue. It's simply the way it is.
If they didnt need us - trust me
[ In Reply To ..]
We would be loooonnngggg gone already.
Which we are soon to be. If you don't think so, - you cant say you werent warned.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
That's pretty naive these days, to think MTs have - any job security whatsoever. In any country.
[ In Reply To ..]
I used to operate a Teletype and an AddressoGraph back in the day. Thought was all that and then some. Boy was I ever wrong! ;p
This is something like the drivers who deliver milk - calling in sick.
[ In Reply To ..]
No one cares about an occupation on its last legs. You are tooooo easy to replace.
That's Not Very Much - Meh
[ In Reply To ..]
A 2% pay increase isn't very much anyway. For Nuance employees, I calculate that's only about $30 more pay per month. Not even worth the trouble.

Want To Pass This On..food For Thought... May 21, 2013I left MM over a month ago. I interviewed for a job the very next week and they hired me on the spot. The money was wonderful, hourly only. It was soooo sweet! Money great, people there great. I thanked God every day for it. Then, on the 4th week, I was informed that my job there was over. HERE AGAIN...they have no MTs anymore. WHAT?!!!
Consequently, I am not ever, ever, ever, going to go for an MT job again. I love the work so ve ...
Some Food For Thought (while We Are In The Bread Lines) Feb 27, 2015I just read this article (link below), and am coming to the realization that it is not Medical Transcription companies like Nuance care about, but they are 'suffering' MTs until MT is gone completely, which will be soon in my opinion. These companies are all competing and working toward selling their programs which will very soon eliminate the need for MT altogether because of the new EHR laws = the doctors will be doing their own editing with little free-style speech at all.&nbs ...
Food For Apr 26, 2012To illustrate the stark difference between those so many believe to be "they" and those they consider to be "we." Let us as AMERICAN MTs think:
"… why the Central Americans… at Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles had always been “on board” in terms of active grassroots participation in their local union, in contrast with non-immigrant workers who viewed the union as a sort of utility, with a bill (dues) that came once a month, but not a collective. …El ...

Wmx - Another Thought On This Sep 02, 2010I think this was a very large account and they could have divided the MTs who had this as their primary and put them on various other accounts. Yes, this would have overstaffed those accounts and more MTs would be getting NJA as we all scrambled for what work there was. Also, this way WMX would not be putting out unemployement for anyone and soon most of us would not have benefits because we couldn't keep our line counts up with NJA all the time. All in all, looks like the ...

Just Thought I'd Ask.. Mar 28, 2011I'm just wondering what is with companies not calling you after you have passed a test and said they will? I don't understand it. Yes, I realize that they may have several people, but is it too much to ask for a phone call to do an interview or something? I am looking for a job and when I do pass tests and get excited that I actually did and no one contacts me like they said they would, it really bothers me. ...
I Thought I Was The Only One May 13, 2011I just realized that no one cares about the quality of medical records anymore. I have had to go to VR and I am now making anywhere between 4 and 12 dollars/hour. I guess people care more about the quality of their hamburgers than they do peoples' healthcare. I have started to just send them through. I don't even really listen to the work. I look at it and change any major spelling errors, but other than that, what the VR says is what they get. The fu ...
Just Had A Thought... Mar 17, 2012Could it be that the MModal and Nuance are buying all of these smaller, better MTSOs because they want to limit our employment options? If MModal (the Q) and Nuance are the monopolizing companies, and an MT who works for them just had all she/he could take, where could she/he go?

I Just Had A Thought!!! Nov 15, 2012What if we asked for stocks in the company as a benefit? I know Wal-Mart does this for their employees, because my SIL, who has worked for Wal-Mart for a long time, drew from her stock and traveled a distance and paid for a birthday party for her 3-year-old grandson and went shopping at our local mall and bought herself a wonderful new set of pots and pans (that new kind that is green and made out of ceramic) and just lived it up more than she could have done otherwise. Just A Thought Here...but... Apr 11, 2013Have you all ever thought of letting your own doctor/s know that you will no longer have a physician who sends his or her work to a company to be done overseas and that you will now demand that your medical records be done in the US or you will seek medical attention elsewhere? Maybe start making a lot of noise on the doctor/hospital level?

An ASR Thought Oct 20, 2013I am making stupid, idiotic mistakes that I never made before. Yes I know I am older than when I started this mess of a job. But, I think with this ASR garbage, first being so wrong all the time, then trying to remember what keystrokes to use, blah blah it actually kind of puts you in a "trance." Just A Thought. Mar 17, 2014As my husband pointed out (he sees how stressed I get) our local grocery store employs people with mental and physical disabiltiies as grocery baggers and they get paid more than I do with less hassle, better benefits and more time off.
