Do you wonder how much the person makes who is sitting there reading all the First Time Right Essays?

Sure would love to know that! How do I get that job? I guess I would qualify as I have reading skills.

and winning things, but I refuse to write this essay. I feel like I'm selling myself out if I write it. I will not lie on an essay that I think FTR is great program. I'm fine with good MTs turning in quality reports without QA supervision, but I am NOT fine with the company penalizing us for blanks (which affects us to a greater degree with longer charts) when all we wanted was a clarification. That is what a good QA dept. is for. Unfortunately a quality QA dept. is not in high demand in this industry anymore apparently. /rant

It took me about 3 minutes to type that 500 word essay.

go ahead and send those great essays in. Just don't be surprised if you get fired/laid off, and that glowing essay comes back to haunt you in an unemployment compensation appeal hearing.

I never once mentioned a pay cut, or that I agreed with being docked pay for sending a report to QA.

If they fire me and I file for unemployment and they bring my essay to the table, I will simply say it like it is... I took a pay cut and needed the money. I log on to work and there is NJA. I try to make up hours, and there is no work. I would do anything for money including shovel horse droppings and I think anyone at the unemployment office would see my point.

Today is the 4th day in a row I have had NJA. Today is the last day of the pay period. I am almost out of PTO.

Let them fire me. That essay will only help me in the long run because of the words contained in it.

I think this was a very large account and they could have divided the MTs who had this as their primary and put them on various other accounts. Yes, this would have overstaffed those accounts and more MTs would be getting NJA as we all scrambled for what work there was. Yes, I realize that they may have several people, but is it too much to ask for a phone call to do an interview or something? I just realized that no one cares about the quality of medical records anymore. I have had to go to VR and I am now making anywhere between 4 and 12 dollars/hour. As my husband pointed out (he sees how stressed I get) our local grocery store employs people with mental and physical disabiltiies as grocery baggers and they get paid more than I do with less hassle, better benefits and more time off. what will happen when the doctors start using templates and no longer have us to edit their reports. at some point they still have to dictate text, right. or will they be using templates for everything and just pulling information from the EHR. just curious how that is going to be with doctors completely being left on their own and accountable for their own records... for example, take the worst dictator you have and try to imagine them seeing their reports without any of the editin ...

I do both medical and general transcription. First, VR was going to replace us. When that didn't work, now we -- American MTs -- are fine-tuning VR so the Indian MTs can replace us. And to make sure this happens, MTSOs are paying us unfair, unlivable wages to force us out, thus forcing clients to accept what they get from the Indian MTs because there won't be enough qualified American MTs left.
