A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
Past or present. I'm curious if any of them visit this site at all and curious on what this AHDI thing is. Is it run by MModal? I live in Florida and was actually thinking about going this year and was wondering if it was worth it and maybe MModal will have any discounts on getting in.
I dunno about the blue hair, but I'm sure on board with the greedy capitalists characterization!
Somehow I'm on AHDI's spam list, and just a couple of days ago I got a mass email from them that included an excerpt and link to this chipper little gem of an article, which is entitled "MTs Ride the Waves of Change":

An excerpt:
"How are organizations supporting their fluctuating transcription service needs while preserving the livelihood of their valued MT employees and meeting financial needs? Many have turned to outsourcing transcription services.
"While this may be unfamiliar to some HIM directors and managers, many have learned that outsourcing transcription helps organizations meet their shifting transcription demand, allowing them to focus on other strategic priorities. In addition, an "onboarding" program for outsourced transcription can provide employment to 100 percent of their MTs, allowing the same MTs to support the organization's documentation, providing continuity for physicians and a familiar setting for MTs working with clinical records."
I decided AHDI wasn't worth spitting on after I heard what they did to the MedQuist MTs, and it's clear that in the intervening years, they haven't changed their stripes in the least.
Advance for HIM has been publishing articles about outsourcing for a long, long time.

They're not just "now" pushing it (where my main confusion was with your first post), and I wouldn't expect them or AHDI (who I agree is less than worthless and has been for eons) to be on board with anything else at this point. AHDI's support of offshoring is the main thing about them that sticks in my craw, which this article didn't touch on at all, obviously.
I used to make good money as an outsourced employee/contractor and so don't see outsourcing as the essential part of the problem, but rather VR rates and offshoring.
