I spent the morning reflecting and trying to figure out what to do and where this profession/company is heading. In doing web searches found that MModal is opening up yet another center in Mysore, India and hoping to employee 500 employees. I guess I am trying to figure out if it is indeed cheaper to employee Indians than US based employees after all the perks the Indians get like healthcare for the whole family including parents until they are 80, gym, free transportation, the cost of those buildings to put those employees in etc., and how many US based MMEs their reports go through, and I think they get paid 1.something rupees per line, which if I am correct equates to being (I think) 0.02 per line in US money. Is it really cheaper? I would be intrested in knowing what the around about salary is for an Indian MT. I looked, but really could not find anything definite. It is really sad that we live in a country that gives so much to other countries such as our jobs, etc., and we have people starving in our own country. I remember hearing this saying when I was a child growing up "charity begins at home."
We are all so stressed out and I think I am not alone when I say I just do not know what I want or should do. If you go back to school, now you are putting yourself in more debt or maybe find yourself in another dead-end job. It just seems no matter which decision you make you will just find yourself right back where you started making a little more than min. wage if you are lucky. It seems to me like they are trying to starve us all out instead of doing the right thing and laying people off (if that is what needs to be done) because they do not want to pay umeployment. They created this situation and at the very least should do something, but I know they will not. It is too bad that we cannot all unite and doing something, but being home-based that almost seems impossible. Sometimes I just feel so alone and like a failure.
Sorry for the long post. I guess I just needed to share, vent, and let someone else know out there they are not alone.
