Besides issues with a company that seems to have workflow problems and therefore tells the independent contractors to not work on their scheduled days because the work is low or on another day is sending e-mails that there is extra work and everyone needs to hustle , there is now a notice that there will be an adjustment in line rates. Of note, this company does not pay the highest line rates to start with. They want a schedule and we're expected to be available AND must produce a minimum amount during that schedule, but then we are told not to work usually around midday or midafternoon. That leaves us with NO income and really NO day off.
When are these MTSOs going to stand up for their workers and stick to the contracts that we signed? They not only have contracts with their clients, but also contracts with the transcriptionists and editors.
Do they really think that an employee on site would go to work, then be sent home without being paid? And I know people who have taken concessions in their pay, but their companies gave them something valuable to make up for that decision.
I hope most of you have a healthy and prosperous 2014 and don't get these sort of notices from whomever you work for.

When is the MT who signed the contract going to say- STOP IT. You can't do this to me. Remember, they can only keep doing this as long as people ALLOW them to do it. When you've really had enough, you will stop allowing yourself to be abused.
Yes, the MTSO should stick to the contract but it sounds like you're misclassified anyway (you should really check with the IRS) and it sounds like you don't think you have a role to play in your own life. You do!
SAY ENOUGH! Yes, it will mean you need to find another job but seriously is the one you're talking about really worth the mental anguish, aggravation, and crap you put up with? It just can't be.
People need to stop taking this kind of crap and simply say sorry, I'm mad as hell and can't take it anymore.
If NO ONE takes the crap jobs, the accounts will either go to companies that do (a little) better or the crap companies are going to have to offer more to the MT to get them to stay.

But there are plenty of people who will keep being paid less and less, or take other sorts of abuse, or deal with other crappy work situations because they don't have a lot of choices. Many people truly don't have a lot of options. They may live in such rural areas that they don't have a lot of options for places to work. They may have valid reasons for needing to work from home (and there are many -- physical disabilities, lack of transportation, caretaker to a spouse or elderly family member, etc.). There may be very limited options for employment in their community. There is age discrimination for those who may not be under 40 years old. One may not have the resources or finances to get an education in another field of work.
I agree with you that many of these companies are misclassifying people as ICs instead of employees.
They often write up contracts that give you wriggle room for your hours to work as an IC and they don't guarantee available work, which would certainly classify a person as an IC.
This business has been in a downward slide for some time now and I don't see it improving. Being an off-site contractor or employee puts one at a major disadvantage. There is power in numbers, which we just do not have.

Ive never not given a notice, but I interviewed today and might get the job. You all know the deal, I just can't afford to work here and they want to fill the position Im trying for immediately.
