They are really vulnerable right now from acquiring so many companies and having people leave those companies because of their terrible reputation. Watch how many ads they will be posting. I was bought out by them for the 2nd time, once with Spheris and once with ETP, and never again. Don't anyone go to them right now! They have so much venture capital from paying their workers so little, they can pitch every health system in the country to save money by gutting transcription costs. Don't accept low pay, people. Value what you do and always try to negotiate the best you can. How are they going to know we don't accept this if we do. Also ask any new employer if they are secretly negotiating with Medquist. They won't tell you, of course, but they will know you won't tolerate Medquist controlling this industry.
Hear hear! Now I want to join MQ, just so I can QUIT! - Better still, however, I will NEVER join MQ.

Fact #1: MQ does not have a lot of venture capital to use on acquisitions because of paying poorly. Venture capital is not excess money; it is investment dollars. As the press releases have all said, they have a huge credit line available for acquisitions.
Fact #2: Not everyone hates working for MQ, not everyone has NJA, not everyone has low paychecks.
Fact #3: As with any company, only a very small percentage of the employees post here, and usually only those with a beef.
WAKE UP PEOPLE - These companies are not as bad as they are portrayed here on this board. From what I can tell from different posts and press releases and articles in magazines (more reliable than the posts on this board), there are 8000 U.S. MT's at MQ, 3000 at Transcend, 5000 at Nuance, 1200 at Precyse, 700 at Keystrokes, 500 at TT, 300 at Softscript. My husband is a manager for a restaurant, and there is a sign in his office that reads, "Golden Rule: A happy customer may tell one or two of his/her friends, but an unhappy customer will tell everyone they know, and the experience will get worse with every telling of the tale." I think this applies to this board as well. The discussions get ugly very quickly, and anyone with a positive post is either a liar or a suit or even the CEO of the MTSO that is being bashed. Do you really think if they were as bad as portrayed or if EVERYONE was unhappy, that they would still be in business.

I get so tired of hearing how there are only a few of us unhappy at the Q. Do you have an inside track as to who the posters are?
I also get tired of the implication that those getting low pay/NJA are doing something to deserve it. I never ever used to get NJA; now I know what others were talking about. You are not immune to NJA; it just hasn't hit your region/account yet.

work for is because a lot of us have been with the Q for so long, we remember getting reimbursed for internet and phone (yes phone, I got 24 dollars a month for phone and 50 for internet) and we had bonuses for over 10,000 lines a pay period and then it went up from there. I made 10-1/2 to 11 cpl because I did 17,000 lines in a pay period--all straight typing----no ASR.
The work disappeared to India or wherever and so everyone started getting no work. I have not been one of those as I only work 11 hours a week.
I hang onto this job because the Q lost work and of course didn't warn me and I was "out of work." That happened twice. So I use it as a backup and I was just thinking of quitting them but my full-time job has just lost 2 huge accounts and so I won't have enough work unless or until they get new accounts.
A lot of people are afraid of change and stay. Who knows why the others do but MedQuist is so messed up but then so are a lot of companies. This business is not a good business to be in anymore. Soon there won't be any "transcriptionists."

The rich get richer, MTs I work with have had one 2% raise in the last 8 years. Let me see .02 x .04/line = not much. Their work responsibilities have more than tripled as far as the amount of sites they work on and the different rules, styles, etc. I just would like to see us making more per line. I can't find another job unless it is with another sweatshop transcription company. Anyway, gotta go pound the keyboard for another couple hrs. Aaargh!

It's just a matter of time before it catches up with them (MTSOs) because the quality has to have gone down that's why they're pushing for such a high accuracy rate. Things will get worse and the MTSO's will eventually have to pay better or improve ASR. It takes time but when a large percentage of reports are really bad and the hospitals get p.o.'d then it will change. It'll take a while though because that's the way things are. I'll come back to this profession then. Till then I'm not going to help them get rich!!! I was on the phone because I had a problem with my satellite radio and there was someone from india trying to assist me...what a joke that was!!

Everyone complains about not being able to find work...now we're told not to take the work. I need money somehow! I sure as heck ain't going back to cleaning houses like I was before.
I'm a noob. ALL other companies wouldn't even look farther than that. 1-2 years experience required, and they MEANT that. I didn't have that...so what option am I left with?
I will say, after a year of this, I will be looking for a job somewhere else...but hell, at least they gave me a job.

See, this is a perfect example. Great-So we have people willing to make the same amount doing medical transcription as cleaning toilets. That makes me feel better after 15 years of experience. No wonder this profession is in the toilet. They hire people with 1 year of experience and Cbay "stipens" their people for 6 months only then puts them in a production environment. Good luck to patients getting accurate medical records is all I can say. This will not go over in the longrun, guaranteed. Unfortunately, we do have to deal with it until somebody with some power and/or inaccurate medical records gets the guts to actually do something about it. I don't care how good you think you are...fact is, the only way to get proficient is to have transcription time under your belt, and 6 months, even a year, is not enough to be let go on your own. Very sad they charge you for sending reports to QA. Although, doesn't really matter now in the whole MT profession, it really does pay the same as cleaning toilets, so it's just up to you which you would rather do at this point.
