one dollar per page - katrina

Posted: Sep 26, 2013

Just got an offer with a company for 1.00 a page for medical transcription.  I had thought when I applied it was some kind of insurance transcription but it turns out they are medical.  This is certainly not a good rate at all.  Anyone else got any offers like this?  This is not x-rays, it would be acute care.

That seems really low if it is a full page. A couple of years ago, I typed for a Sleep Study practice, and I was getting paid $3.75 per page. The pages were usually full. There were some things that I didn't like about it. One was fixing the doctor's dictation (usually grammar wise). So I would not get paid for those corrections. Also, I was told to type all medications in upper case (the first letter). Even if it was generic, I had to type it uppercase. Sorry, I didn't mean to get off the subject.

was it USA Transcription? - anon

there was a job on the other board by USA Transcription for phone interviews for insurance claims that was advertised at $1.00 page, but they also said that one had about 75% 1-5 words per line and 15-20 lines per page double-spaced. I ask because I applied for that one as well and was surprised when the test files were medical and not phone interviews.

just wondering.

Would rather not mention any names but just that this seems awful low to me. It seems our wages as MTs continue to go down and I am starting to really feel taken advantage of. Don't know about the rest of you but this is getting to be quite a racket anymore.

i agree its awful low - anon

I just wondered if it was the same ad I had applied to because I too thought it was phone interviews, but the test files were regular medical transcription. I wouldn't do that for $1 a page either. Thanks for responding.

Testing appears perfectly legitimate to me - So take the test

So the medical transcription company gets a new insurance account; needs to hire more people. They need to find out how extensive your terminology, how good your ears are, how familiar you are in general with medical transcription. They probably have a good set of sample reports they use for assessing all employees/ICs, and by giving you the sample medical reports to transcribe they can evaluate your overall skill set. I wouldn't assume anything dishonest is going on here. If this were my company/account, I would probably use the same testing/hiring process that I use for all my applicants. It seems to me also that it would be to your advantage as well, since this company handles acute care, in the event you want to on some extra work you can handle it. Take the test, and if the job offered to you turns out to be something other than what was advertised, then you can always turn it down. I doubt they would advertise for this position when they wanted acute care and had one applicant after another turn them down as that would be a waste of time and money for them too, plus damaging their reputation as well.

i didnt mind the test at all - anon

I was surprised it was a regular medical transcription test (if she is even talking about the same ad I saw) which was advertising for transcription for phone interviews for insurance claims that were $1.00 per page, where the ad specified 75% lines 1-5 words, with 15-20 lines per page double-spaced I believe, for that $1.00. I wouldn't do regular straight typing medical transcription for $1.00 a page, especially not acute care, clinic notes, etc., not for $1.00 per page. I agreed with her that that is definitely too low of a rate for me, and I believe that is the point she was making. The rate being so low.

Yes, that is point I was making. I feel same way. I would do double space general transcription for dollar page but not straight typing medical without double spaces.

Smartype Line Will Not Move With The Page So When I Get To The Bottom Of The Page

I have a question about Smartype and I will try to make it so it is understandable:)  I bought Instant Text because I had to have some way of moving my Smartype over into Word 2007 (I had Word 2002).  I have Instant Text turned off until I learn the new platform on the new company I am with.  My problem is this, the Smartype line will not move with the page so when I get to the bottom of the page it covers up everything at the bottom and I can only manually move Smartype by scrolling back up ...

What has happened to quality?  Someone earlier today mentioned that she had a verbatim acct and was embarrassed to send out the report with her initials on it because the doctor's grammar was so bad. What happen to the time when we were allowed to type three, four, five, instead of 3, 4 or 5.  We get sentences such as "The patient was prescribed Ultram 50 2 times a day.  I'm going to type out two there because at least to me, it looks confusing.
