Can anyone tell me if there is software that will count pages for reports that are one continuous file with multiple pages? I have tried several, but they count the file as one page, rather than delineating each page separately.
Thank you.
It is late at night and I may have read your question wrong, but here goes anyway.
If you use a platform that is not MS Word, you can stop reading now. LOL
Just a suggestion. I am sure someone else will come up with something easier, but just in case this may be an option.
I do not know of any programs, but have you tried to create one yourself. Plus, I am not really sure if this would be any faster than the method you already use.
If you type in MS Word, and what you need to know is how many total reports you have in a long file, plus how many pages in each report, have you tried adding a Table to Contents at the beginning of your file after you are all done?
This is easy to do if all your reports start with a similar heading as the first line, such as the date on letters or the type of report. Just set Word to pick up every date or heading (as if it were a chapter in a book), and it will give you the table by page number. All you would need to do is print it out and quickly subtract page numbers to figure out how many pages are in each report.
For example, if all your reports are letters and you have the date as your first line, your Table of Contents would look like this:
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………..1
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………..3
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………..6
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………..9
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………10
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………11
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………12
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………16
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………17
August 1, 2010 …………………………………………………………………………………18
Results:
10 reports
18 pages total
Report 1 = 2 pages
Report 2 = 3 pages
Report 3 = 3 pages
Report 4 = 1 page
Report 5 = 1 page
Report 6 = 1 page
Report 7 = 4 pages
Report 8 = 1 page
Report 9 = 1 page
Report 10 = 1 page
Or, if you use Type of Report as the First Line, the Table to Contents could look like this:
PROGRESS NOTE..……………………………………………………………………………..1
LETTER………..…………….…………………………………………………………………..3
FOLLOW-UP VISIT...…………………………………………………………………………..6
LETTER…….. …………………………………………………………………………………..9
PROCEDURE NOTE..…………………………………………………………………………10
LETTER………...………………………………………………………………………………11
LETTER……...…………………………………………………………………………………12
CONSULTATION...……………………………………………………………………………16
LETTER……...…………………………………………………………………………………17
LETTER ……..…………………………………………………………………………………18
