Per page or per report rates - MT_Ina

I have been transcribing for many years from home and I usually use per line rates. However, I have a Dr. that is interested in using my service, but they send all the info by internet and I would just have to type everything up. I think it would be better if I used either per page or per report (their past MT used per report) rate. I have not idea what to charge because some of the reports will include medical records which, of course, will take more time. Does anyone have an idea about which way is best and how much to charge. I am in California.

Why would you not just continue to charge by the line? The method of receipt doesn't change how you can charge.

The problem with by the page, and even worse by report, is that you have to rely on the law of averages.

Do you have any information from them as to the average length of a report, or average number of reports in a day?

That includes the header page, which has most of the information included except for the name of the patient. I find this makes me about $20-24/hour. I don't charge per report because some are longer than others and some are short. I live in Indiana, so cost of living is much less here than in California. Maybe $5/page in your case?

I have a question about Smartype and I will try to make it so it is understandable:) I bought Instant Text because I had to have some way of moving my Smartype over into Word 2007 (I had Word 2002). I have Instant Text turned off until I learn the new platform on the new company I am with. My problem is this, the Smartype line will not move with the page so when I get to the bottom of the page it covers up everything at the bottom and I can only manually move Smartype by scrolling back up ...

I am working in Word 2007. I am trying to make a template that has a different first page top margin. Can anyone give me some help? I have searched on MT Stars but can't seem to find anything. how does this sound for legal transcription work? this is my first time being offered (and quoted) this type of work and pay. any ideas? i did test for them and the verbatim legal test file was quite easy and well over 1-1/2 pages in a short amount of time. <<<15 pages = $18.00 a page. Just got an offer with a company for 1.00 a page for medical transcription. I had thought when I applied it was some kind of insurance transcription but it turns out they are medical.
