They just don't work for a few rupees per day. Most of the MTSOs in India offer their MTs meals--something which when you are hungry and desperate you will do just about anything for. Some offer basic medical assistance (aspirin, penicillin, soaps, basic wound care, toothbrushes/paste) as "perks" of the job as well.

From the sites that I've seen, it is customary to offer two meals per day in addition to the rupees per line. A couple of years ago, I figured out that the average MT over there was making $0.0013 or so per line in addition to their meals and other perks.

It's not a matter of the MTs overseas making out like bandits. They too are being oppressed as well.

I did run across a site, however, that had one Indian broker looking for bidders only from the US to handle hundreds of thousands of lines of transcription per day.

It is obvious that some Indians are buying up huge amount of transcription lines from the US at greatly reduced prices to underbid the US MTSO and then reselling those lines back to US MTSOs minus a few cents per line.

The Indians are brokering enormous amounts of MT lines from the US back to the US--minus a great deal of money. That's why the bottom has fallen out of the MT profession That money made brokering the lines used to go in your pocket.

The bottom line is that both US and Indian MTs(and others) are being horribly and equally exploited by scheming thieves.

The MTSOs would snatch them and pay 1.5 CPL. - Annie
