and going on strike would actually be noticed. We, on the other hand, are stuck in cyberville and very few even know about us or even care! Maybe we should have like a National Registry where we can "sign up" and let the world know that we really are real! :-)

some of these so called MTSO offices are nothing more than "store fronts" for the true offices located in India, Philippines,etc where they offshore the work to.

Personally, after seeing the writing on the wall for this industry, going back to school and seeing there is life outside of working at home as an MT, I'm kind of grateful to be getting out of this eventually. I know it has put a lot of people in bad economic circumstances, but I personally wouldn't stay in this profession even if it did make a turnaround. It's burned me out in more ways than one.

You might wanna try posting this link on facebook and emailing it to other MTs you know to get the word out there for more signatures. How long has the link been there?

Hey, Im all for keeping jobs in the US be it MTs, call centers or whatever. Who wouldn't want to sign a petition to keep jobs in this country? Even if you hate MT and dont like your job anymore you can still do your Country some justice and sign the petition folks.

Our government cannot simply issue decrees about what corporations do in a free market society.

Maybe they cannot issue decrees, but they can provide incentives to corporations - to keep work in our country. see msg

There is no lack of insight there. There has already been talk about giving corporations incentives to bring work back to the US.

This link is posted on a government website for a reason, to let the peoples voice be heard. They would not give people the right to create petitions if they were not interested in what we have to say or what we think. Just like your vote counts, your input counts.

and rewarded handsomely for it by our gov't, and it STILL gets rid of transcription as we new it. That - or medicare will not pay.

face it. we are gone, outside of a handfull of (lucky) editors to keep the records clean and accurate.

Anyone entering into the profession now are SOL, and most in it now will be SOL.

Allowing companies to send jobs off-shore takes away work from Americans. Companies pay extremely low wages to workers in other countries, but the work is not only substandard, it also compromises the security of financial, medical and other information of United States citizens. Now yes, of course it includes MTs, but the petition is actually pretty general and applies to more than just the transcription industry.

Not trying to have a debate here. If you dont want to sign then dont. Funny how people are quick to complain, but when it comes to doing something that could potentially be beneficial, they come up with every negative excuse in the book to talk themselves and others right out of being proactive.

I truly hope you guys have found yourselves better jobs and are no longer in the MT business; either that or hopefully in school and on your way out. Just keep in mind though that your next job could also be in jeopardy of being outsourced to overseas or taken over by technology.

The conclusions developed in this petition have no basis in fact. Example: "By stopping all off-shoring of jobs, the subsequent need for US employees will boost the economy by decreasing unemployment, and increasing spendable income and the quality of products, goods, and service".

There is no reason for the petitioner to believe that cessation of offshoring would boost our economy. If companies suddenly had to pay Americans instead of offshore workers, where would all that money come from? How would the employer even stay afloat?

Our government can restrict trade as well as outsourcing of jobs; they have numerous ways to do so, including taxes, customs, etc. Ever hear about a trade embargo? Is that legal? Of course it is. So is limiting off-shoring of jobs, manufacturing, imports and exports.

Do you think a trade embargo and limiting offshoring of jobs are the same thing? Trade embargos are not the way to revitalize our economy, for goodness sake. You have a lot to learn, and too much anger to absorb it.

There have been numerous attempts on the part of congress to impose sanctions on companies who offshore. These attempts have been blocked by the right. Perhaps barking up the right tree would yield a more reasonable outcome.

As many of you know, EMR companies charge fees upwards of 15,000 dollars to allow transcription companies to integrate with them. This barrier to entry will lead to us all being replaced by voice recognition or point and click unless we all do something. There is no reason transcriptionists can not co-exist with EMR's.
