Petition to keep jobs in USA - MT4now

Posted: Dec 08, 2012

http://wh.gov/Nz78 This looks a lot like one posted here a couple weeks ago. It's on a facebook page. It says it takes 150 signatures within 30 days for it to go live on the White House website. I see you have to register to sign, but I just did, and it only takes a minute. Please sign. We need to try to do something about losing our jobs to other countries.

Signed and shared on my FB page. This is really an important issue if this country is to survive. Before you know it, no one is going to have a job in the US and the country will be a wasteland.

I will NOT sign. - see message

The petition says,

"Why should other countries benefit from greedy companies who pay substandard wages for less-than-top-quality products & services?"

The petition also says that work done overseas is "substandard."

That is a sweeping accusation. Like it or not, there are many high-quality goods and services produced outside of the United States.

It's a small world with a global economy. Many other countries also have business/industry here in the US. The pendulum swings both ways.

I agree that tax incentives may be a good push for some businesses to keep jobs here in the US, but to imply that goods and services produced offshore are all low-quality is ridiculous.

The petition needs to be crafted again and reworded so that it is level-headed in tone, factual, and not so emotional.

When it comes to medical transcription full of errors, - 2 cents

[ In Reply To ..]
yes we very much need the job in the US.

At least it's a start . . . - What have you done

[ In Reply To ..]
to help with the "cause?" If you are so level headed, please do start a petition of your own. I would love to see it.

Btw, I DO think most imported goods are low quality. Let me give you an example. How about household kitchen appliances? The used to last 20-30 years, and they were made in the USA. They also could be repaired if they went bad. Now we're lucky if an appliance lasts 5 years, and repairs are unheard of these days. We have become a throw-away society because of this. We buy cheap goods, and we don't even expect them to last.

Bring it all back to the USA. Pay workers well. Give them a good wage, and in return they will produce well-made quality products. We need to value our workers, pay them what they deserve, and be willing to pay a bit more for goods and services. We'll be able to afford it, because we'll be working!

So, let us know when you have your petition up and running.

"Bring it all back to the USA." - ok...then...

Don't complain when the price of **EVERYTHING** skyrockets.

Keeping jobs in the USA is important. No doubt. But COMPETITION is what keeps prices in check, and offshoring of manufacturing is what allows families to purchase items at reasonable and low prices.

And, contrary to the PC opinion, "Made in the USA" does **NOT** always mean superior quality. Sad but true.
Very well stated. - nm

If workers were paid a good wage and that resulted in more pride in their work, I believe quality would be good. And, yes, I am sure the quality would be better than the shoddy products we currently see on the market. Wal-Mart-Fall-Apart is an apt description of most, if not all, foreign-made products.

And what about services? I'll take an native English-speaking customer service rep over an ESL one any day. They can't understand why we called, let alone offer a reasonable solution in most cases.

And how about MT? Have you seen the reports generated by off-shore MTs? I've seen my own records, and they are riddled with errors, some of which are critical. No thanks. I prefer a USA-based MT to handle my medical records, as well as my financial records.

It wouldn't matter if the "price of everything" went up. - On fair wages we could afford them!
[ In Reply To ..]
And the quality of everything would be better: The products, our lives, and America's infrastructure. If we were all making more, then yes, we'd be paying more taxes. And maybe then we could start to pay off the deficit, and stop borrowing money from China.

True for some, not for others - I refuse to buy American cars.

[ In Reply To ..]
because I can't afford the repair bills.

you mentioned tax incentives - gov't gave incentives to offshore. - unlikely they will give another to on-shore NM

And how has that been working? - Concerned

Obviously our economy is continuing to go down the toilet. The only way to stop that is to make changes!

Off-shoring has hit us in the gut. If it continues unregulated, soon there will be NO manufacturing of goods and NO service-related jobs in the USA. With climbing levels of unemployment, HOW will our economy ever recover? It won't. Pure and simple - if we want things to change, we need to make changes.

There is a petition here http://wh.gov/XbqE about stopping off-shoring jobs. I saw it on facebook, and it would apply to MT, I think. As suggested the other day, I e-mailed my TAA regional director since all I was getting from my One-Stop Career Center person & UI was that I needed a letter stating a lay off date or that there was an imminent threat of lay off. Aug 18, 2010

It is insulting to all of us with the way that MT pay has gone down the drain, it is frustrating and aggravating to look for a "decent" job these days, trying to work out which companies will treat you fairly, which ones lie about their platforms, work, etc., and not only do these companies not want to pay us what we are worth but now I see that MANY companies are requiring the MT to have or "be willing" to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of equipment.  If an employer can PROMISE IN ...

As many of you know, EMR companies charge fees upwards of 15,000 dollars to allow transcription companies to integrate with them. This barrier to entry will lead to us all being replaced by voice recognition or point and click unless we all do something. There is no reason transcriptionists can not co-exist with EMR's. Doctors still need someone to type their records up for them. It is simply a faster and a more efficient use of resources to keep us in the loop. Eliminating these EMR fees ...
