Using recruiting companies for MT jobs - typetypetypeaway

I have been unemployed as an MT now since last April. I have uploaded my resume to many different sites, careerbuilder.com, Monster, etc. Every morning or so I get an email from one of them showing me the new jobs on the site and one always basically comes from an MT recruiting company that says pay could be from $25K to 65K depending on experience. (I think the days of $60K are gone!)

My question is if anyone on this board has gone that route presently or in the past with that type of recruiting company (they specifically say for the MT industry) and how many ropes do they make you jump through. Do you have to pay a fee for a job if accepted? Have they helped you find employment? If you want to email me personally I can give you more details (I don't know if I am allowed to specify what recruiting company). Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks.

Back around 2006 after the Heartland layoffs, they put us in touch with "Transcription Matchmaker," and they found me a job within days. I don't think they're around anymore, but you could check the archives for any info. It's not a bad way to go, but DO NOT under any circumstances pay a recruiter to find you work! That would be a scam. Basically any type of employment agency gets paid through the company using their services... not the potential employee. If you have the name of the recruiting company, web search them to see if they're legit. Also, make sure that (if it's through CareerBuilder or Monster) that it's actually an employment service... not a school. I had my resume on there, and I would get endless e-mails from schools wanting me to train as an MT. (Yeah... okay). That tempting "65K" they describe kinda sets my radar off (that old "if it sounds too good to be true" thing).

I will look a little further. It is not Transcription Matchmakers. But the company does have a website on its own. I will investigate. I would not pay a dime to any headhunter, but was wondering if any other MTs had used such a service and it worked out for them. Thanks again. Happy New Year!

Saw another recruitment ad for TTS on the job seekers board dated 06/03. For such a small company they seem to go through MTs quickly. Only two of five hired survive after six weeks of employment according to owner's assistant. I am one of the TTS MT casualties. My fellow MTs don't waste your time with TTS. I cannot believe the audacity of the owners/managers to keep trying to recruit on MT Stars (see job seeker's board) when there isn't enough work to go around on TTS and they treat you terrible. 8 cpl is what I started at 6 or 7 years ago, I'm still seeing this number and of course much lower. How are companies getting away with this nonsense of not paying for spaces, paying 5 cpl, etc. In my opinion 8 cpl + typing for large teaching hospitals with 18 pages of specifications = really low pay. I just ran into a local job already, MOWING GRASS. The lady's lawn mowing man just finished school and is quitting the mowing. I haven't been getting a second resevered job for quite some time and was wondering if I was the only one. I have told my manager and she said she would fix it about 2 months ago. It really stinks because after I complete a job it throws NJA at me. If I let if search for jobs long enough it will find me one.
