First off, a bit of a background -- lost my wonderful, steady job to being "morphed" in February. I have been looking for a job, applied for unemployment and finally got it this past week. However, last week, my roommate asked me to leave. I went to a "national chain motel;" (Super 8) on Tuesday, after calling them Monday and telling them VERY SPECIFICALLY what I needed in terms of "high speed internet." DSL or cable and NO satellelite -- well, get down there late Tuesday afternoon (after getting lost in the Miami area), check in, hook up computer, ready to work -- SLOOOOW connection!!! I called the front desk, asked them what type of connection they had; i.e., cable, DSL, satellite -- "they didn't know." (There were also other problems besides the internet) and I reported this to their corporate office. To make a long story short, at 11 a.m. EST, the manager came to my room and "evicted me," because of the complaints I had made regarding the service and room in general. He gave me until 2 p.m. to leave, and it was a scramble finding an affordable room. I contacted a motel right next door to the Super 8 and lo and behold -- cable internet and FULL cable channels for $10 a night less. It's not "the Ritz," but has a bigger fridge and a microwave at a much cheaper price.
I did not mean for this to be long, but I know a lot of MTs work when they vacation and I have learned that when companies say "no satellite or air cards," I see what they are saying. CHECK before you make that hotel reservation to make sure that it is a dedicated cable/DSL router type of connection. It will save headaches in the long run and I apologize for this being long.
