In my eagerness to get out of MT (and home based work in general), I've sent my resume to 4 different staffing agencies. I have an interview at a local Aflac office tomorrow, they seemed impressed by my medical knowledge and clerical skills. The interview occurs during my normal MT schedule, so I lied to my TSM, telling her I had a dental appointment. The thing is, I've got other offers from other insurance companies. I have NO sales experience, and there is NOTHING on my resume to indicate any sales experience. I'm hoping that tomorrow's Aflac interview is for a clerical position, but I'm kind of leery since earlier today, I got a call from Bankers Life and Casualty asking for an interview next week, but when I looked up BLC, they sounded like a pyramid scheme.

But if they really are looking for insurance agents, would that be any worse than working as an MT (especially at Nuance)?

is a good company and generally considered a good employer. I believe they provide training and a mentor for new representatives. The position is probably for sales unless the ad was placed by an individual representative looking for clerical help.

Go see what they have to say and ask lots of questions. As far as insurance sales goes, Aflac apparently gets very little resistance from prospective clients as I believe it costs the company essentially nothing to provide the option to their employees.

I'm not sure about other insurance companies, but I would expect they provide training as well. It can't hurt to go to the interviews for all of them and see whether any of them would be a good fit for you. You might turn out to have a talent for sales you never knew about.

I had posted my resume on a local newspaper's website or something a while back. Anyway, I got insurance emails/calls like you would not believe and same thing, no sales experience and my resume wasn't just a general one. It was stating what I was looking for and it was not insurance. Maybe not enough people are applying so they're trying to reach others and see if they're interested. ? Good luck!

I hate to hear that you're considering being an insurance agent. I personally know wonderful people who went to work as insurance agents and pressured their life-long friends and families into buying insurance through them. I mean HIGH pressure. Needless to say, those friendships ended quickly, and their family ties have been negative impacted.

My next door neighbor sold insurance for a while and I agree with pressuring friends and family to purchase policies. I fractured my foot and was home from work for a few days and she was at my door trying to sell me a disability policy, lol! Ask about the pay, I don't think I would do it unless it was salary plus commission or it will be no better than NJA. Also, there won't be as many people enrolling in individual health insurance plans with the Affordable Care Act and the state exchanges. Maybe it would be a good part-time job with MT on the side, at least until you see how it is going to work for you and if you can make a living. I would be a terrible sales person, but some people have a talent for it.

so I had to turn them down. It's a shame, five days at Nuance and the honeymoon period is already over. I need to actually go into town with printed copies of my resume to deliver to companies in person (as half the responses I get from applying online are canned/fake), and I can't do that if the Nuance TSM are shoving make up time down my throat. How well would it go over if I honestly told my TSM that I'm actively pursuing offline work and the Nuance is just a placeholder?
