Selling insurance products? - WTH??

Posted: Feb 23, 2013

I posted my resume on Monster recently and this morning got a response from an insurance company, wanting me to apply to sell insurance products.  WTH?  I am looking for a coding job.  Why would they think I would be good at or want to sell insurance?  Has anybody ever sold insurance?  I am not the salesperson type and I don't know if this job would advance me towards my goal.  Anybody else post on Monster and get strange replies?  Well I guess it's something to think about.

You probably got replies - for insurance sales

from Monster from certain key words in a resume, i.e. team player or good communication skills. Insurance companies have to keep replenishing their sales force because if 10 people sign up to sell insurance, maybe only 2 will succeed.

I have just recently started selling insurance (life, health) as a supplement to my MT job and so far really enjoy it, although I will say it is NOT the job for everyone. It requires a completely different side of my personality, and it helps a lot to have a little income coming in from MT while I am (quite literally) getting doors slammed in my face! LOL!

I hope to transition into full time sales as soon as I get a little more experience. I love the idea of being a true professional as well as helping people with something they need (even though some of them don't know it yet!).

And by the way, if any of you who read this need life, health, Medicare supplement or dental insurance and live in NC, shoot me an email. I'd love to come to your house and discuss your insurance needs!

I posted on Craig's List looking for transcription jobs. I really got some weird replies, such as a job as a nanny and personal assistants. On Craig's List most of them are scams. I specifically would post that I am only interested in transcription and not to reply if the job is something else. I never sent my resumes until I was pretty sure they were legit.

I would frankly - do anything

other than MT at this point. Supposedly (if media is to be believed), insurance is a field where there is a need and will be a need for employees. Progressive Ins is advertising for claims adjuster trainees in my area, and I might apply, but as with all jobs nowadays, there is heavy competition. I applied at the library for a part-time position, and 257 people applied, and I live in a small city in a rural state. If you shoot me an email, I will give you an idea for another insurance company that may be worth a shot and they provide training. I am not bilingual, and that is required where I live, but may not be a requirement where you live.

Thanks - OP

The job is selling insurance products like life insurance, annuities, etc. I wish it had to do with claims or other billing work. I live in SoCal and me not being bilingual is a problem for me finding work dealing with the public, ie, receptionist or patient service rep in a hospital. I have considered taking Spanish for Medical Professionals, but haven't done it yet, not sure it's worth the time and money to get a receptionist job. Not sure if the insurance sales requires bilingual either, but I don't think being a salesperson is for me. I already invested money in learning coding, so I think I am going to keep trying to find a job with that. Thanks for the support tho. Will keep trying.

Had that happen to me too - Sassymt

That was actually the main reason I deleted my account with Monster. I got so tired of getting all of those "good fit) insurance sales emails. Totally forgot about it and recently created a new account because I'm looking for a job and they have started all over again. I remember doing research on the companies that were contacting me and most people said they never made a dime. I thought about going through a reputable company like State Farm, Farmer's or Allstate but never got any response on how to get started so I gave up.

Me too; google the name, probably scam artists... - cindyoh

I did like you recently and posted my resume on Monster. My email was bombarded with insurance company scammers. Needless to say, I took the resume down.

Medical Transcription Vs Selling Insurance?
Feb 18, 2014

In my eagerness to get out of MT (and home based work in general), I've sent my resume to 4 different staffing agencies. I have an interview at a local Aflac office tomorrow, they seemed impressed by my medical knowledge and clerical skills. The interview occurs during my normal MT schedule, so I lied to my TSM, telling her I had a dental appointment. The thing is, I've got other offers from other insurance companies. I have NO sales experience, and there is NOTHING on my resume to ind ...

What Speech-wreck Products Does M*Modal
Dec 07, 2013

I work for another company, and they recently got a speech-wreck program that I believe has some M*Modal software in it.  Do they have SR software that is specifically for radiology? Also, if a company purchases SR software that has M*Modal's stamp on it, how likely is it that the purchasing company might be in line to get taken over by M*Modal?  Because if that happens, I'm out of there. ...

Selling To Viva Transcription
Apr 23, 2012

I see people have posted about selling to Viva Transcription and I tried to post there but I couldn't see exactly how. Maybe this will work. I sold to them a year ago and had some serious reservations at first. They didn't really do anything wrong or against the contract but I had a tough time sleeping regardless. I spoke with some of the mt's after the deal closed who said the new manager was a complete robot and never listened to their personal concerns. This is significant s ...

Thanks Transcend For Selling Us Down The River. When
Oct 25, 2012

I came to Transcend less than a year ago I asked if there was any danger of them selling out to one of the "big ones."  Of course, I was told absolutely not; was told that they were actually the ones buying smaller companies.  I left the company I was with (and liked) because they had sold out to the other "big one" and work had dwindled away to nothing, just like it's doing now.  ...
