Afraid to sign up for medical insurance, don't want - to call attention to myself.

I know that sounds crazy, but this company is MAKING me crazy! Up to now, I haven't signed up for the medical insurance, but now I need to and am afraid that will make me a future "target" for firings/layoffs. That's the main issue I have with this company right now - the "unknown." I know that many people really don't know what the future holds with their company and that layoffs happen, but this company has a striking track record for mass firings, and it always seems to be the people who are costing them too much money (hence, my fear for signing up for health insurance). I'm a high producer, and so far my quality is good, but I never feel stable or secure here, despite my many years at this job. With this ridiculous 99.6 hanging over our heads, anybody can fail an audit now and get put on "the list."

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent.

Take one day at a time. Can't tell you what the future holds, but there's nothing you can do right now to control the future decisions of other people.

Sign up for the insurance. That's something you can control now. God forbid something happens to you on Jan 1 and then you're really up the creek!

I have medical assistance right now. After 3 pay cuts, my finances have taken a huge hit over the years, but I can afford (barely) the employee only coverage for myself and keep medical assistance for my kids. Thank you for the hug, I needed that. :)

If it is your "time", nothing ... absolutely nothing you ever do will prevent that. As we saw with the last layoff, there was no rhyme or reason to those chosen so if they have plans to lay someone off, having insurance or not isn't going to make any difference. At least, if you have it, you're covered if you get sick or hurt until that day comes, if it does. Let your insurance coverage and the knowledge that you'll be OK if you get sick be the one positive thing about MM.

Also, try and calm your mind a down a bit or you will definitely need that insurance for your anxiety attacks. :)

for termination or layoff simply because you signed up for the health insurance they offer, then getting fired would likely be an improvement. You would be better off NOT working for any company like this.

I just signed up for insurance this past open enrollment and our first payment will be deducted from the January 12 pay check. But I have a question for those of you who already have insurance ... For those 2 months a year when there are *3* pay checks (in 2014 it will be May and October) how are the payments deducted ... do we actually make *3* equal insurance payments those months in the same amount - or still the same monthly payment, just divided by 3? ...

Can anyone tell me how much the medical insurance premium is for a single person?
