Insurance medical examiner job - something to consider

I just had an exam for life insurance where a young man came out and took my blood pressure by a battery operated digital device, drew blood and took a urine sample, weighed me, as well as asked questions which he filled out on a form. It seemed like a pretty easy job overall, so I looked up the requirements through the company he works for, and apparently being a skilled pheblotomist, able to fill out paper work and access to a computer is all that was needed. He did mention driving back and forth between appointments can be hectic sometimes. I'm too old for this now, but I thought there might be some younger MTs who would be interested.

I'd consider it if I didn't have to do phlebotomy. Afraid to stick people. - Sounds good otherwise nm

i don't much fancy getting stuck, & thought i'd be scared of it, too. it's a skill.

still don't care for blood draws or injections, though! maybe my aversion helped--dunno.

The "skilled phlebotomist" is the issue - Not so easy

Unless you worked in a lab sticking people and never, ever failed, you aren't a skilled phlebotomist.

You can't go to people's homes and have trouble sticking them.

I had an exam last year for life ins. and the woman told me you need a minimum of "sticks" to qualify. I can't remember if it was 1200 or 2000, but it was over 1000. It was just a side job for her. Kind of funny actually because she used to be an MT and wanted to get back into the field.

I saw an ad for an insurance examiner with a minimum of 100 sticks. Also, things may have changed over the years, but I've seen phlebotomy training courses only 6 weeks long.

I have a friend who (years ago) wanted to be phlebotomist and she flunked because she had a fear of getting up and doing a speech, thereby not passing that part of the skill. Apparently--not sure if this is still the case--you had/have to get up in front of a class and give a speech.

Just something else to look into and consider. I'd be interested in knowing if that's still the case.

I just signed up for insurance this past open enrollment and our first payment will be deducted from the January 12 pay check. But I have a question for those of you who already have insurance ... For those 2 months a year when there are *3* pay checks (in 2014 it will be May and October) how are the payments deducted ... do we actually make *3* equal insurance payments those months in the same amount - or still the same monthly payment, just divided by 3? ...

Can anyone tell me how much the medical insurance premium is for a single person?
