Happy News - Former MT

After losing my long-time transcription position last year (along with many other people) and applying for a variety of jobs over the past several months, I have been hired by a medical facility as a HIMS Tech.

I am also relieved to have found something with a decent commute.

This is the area I wanted to transition into, so I am glad to be moving in a new direction which I think will suit me well.

How great! Can you tell us what an HIMS tech is? - Sounds interesting! n/m

HIMS = Health Information Management Systems/Services; the technician works with the facility's medical records (obtaining, reviewing, releasing, etc.).

The current term is health information because the job involves more than just wrangling paper medical records. It is really the management of health information in a variety of forms, including electronic.

The facility where I used to work had paper and electronic information; the facility I am going to now is the same.

I'm trying to transition from MT to HIMS/medical records technician, too. I had an interview for such a position last week, but I was not chosen, unfortunately. I've still been applying to those kinds of jobs and hope someone will hire me soon!

I applied for a bunch of similar positions and was interviewed for a couple before this one (I also was interviewing for other types of jobs since priority #1 was to have money coming in again).

I hope you find something soon.

Who in their right mind names a company "Happy Transcriptions?" In this day and age, all I see is "sad" MTs and, in my opinion, if "Happy Transcriptions" is still happy, they can only be messing even more with us poor "sad" MTs. All I can say is I am so "happy" I am so close to being on my way out of MT! ...

I opened a ticket yesterday for ASR, asking them to have H and H expand out to hemoglobin and hematocrit for my account, and less than 24 hours I got a message saying it was done! Unbelievable. Seems crazy we would all have to do this, but if we all do this, maybe some positive change could actually come. I gave them the account, an internal job number, and my contact number and just stated what the problem was. My understanding is this was corrected for this ...

Most of the companies are paying 8 cpl for transcription and 4 cpl for editing. MQ is not going to stop until they reach that rate even though they may do it gradually as they have been doing. ...

This whole thing makes absolutely zero sense to me. Webmedx has 500+ employees, right? What management is going to make an announcement regarding a publicly traded company and then tell employees not to talk? I would think announcing changes like that would put them at risk of actually influencing the stock. And they have to know it's ridiculous to think that many people are going to keep the announcement confidential. To me, it seems extremely irresponsible of Webmedx any way I look at it ...

I interviewed for a job at a local, major hospital. It was interesting to learn that the HIM department is in the process of bringing transcription back in house, at least partially. It was claimed that their transcription company was not doing a satisfactory job. This might be good news my MT friends. Maybe this will be a trend?
