A couple of years ago, 1 of them went to EMR. My MD hates it. She said she has to spend more time on that instead of with the patient. But she has to use it because the hospital she has privileges at requires it.
Second hospital here is going live with EMR next year. All hospitals get stimulous money from Medicare for using EMR. EMR is required. So where do you think our jobs are going in the future?
Jobs - Curious one

I don't know; my facility used their own form of EMR for several years and then we went to Epic. Some of our providers dislike it too but were given the choice of whether they wanted to use Dragon and point and click or straight dictation. Our MTs are pretty busy and our department is fully staffed right now, but I don't know what the future holds. I have a coding background and am trying to keep one foot in both camps, but I'm getting close to being able to retire and would like to stay in MT for as long as possible. EMR does not mean the end of transcription, it means a paperless health record. There are "meaningful use" guidelines for the EMR which don't involve transcription. If facilities meet those guidelines in other ways, they still get the stimulus funds. It is not supposed to be fully in place until 2014, but I think it's going to be difficult getting everyone up to speed.
I have not noticed any more bad news than usual - on this forum..there is always

a thread or two surfacing about EMR and Epic, which seems to be fairly normal for this board. The rest of what I see is pretty much the same - People inquiring about jobs, people posting about bad pay and unfair treatment etc.
Pretty much the norm from what I can tell. As far as EMR, I agree with curious one. I have worked in an EMR system for the past 6yrs. EMR just means electronic medical record and I am pretty sure at this point, 95% of MTs are working in EMR and just dont realize it.
EMR is not the end of transcription. Sure there are programs out there that are designed to replace some transcription such as point and click, but that is mainly used in clinics, emergency rooms and radiology.
Acute care still requires a narrative summary to the reports.
I'd LIKE to see something snowball!! - (see message)

This heat is killing me....a snowball or two would be welcome relief! LOL....sorry, just kidding. Not very funny, I know.
It does seem like the terrible heat and being cooped up inside because of it brings out the grumpiness, and negative news does seem to be all over the place lately!
To all you wonderful MTs working and slaving your lives away, Happy MT Week. I appreciate you. I appreciate your kindness when I have a rant or a rave, when I'm at my wits end with the constant changing around of clients, client profiles and the never ending dings being thrown at me. I appreciate knowing that I am not alone in this struggle.
It is because of all of you, and only you MTs on this board that I manage to stay in this game. We are treated as less than second class citiz ...
Does anyone know when pay will be distributed this week? A big deal seemed to be made about getting payroll in quickly, so Im wondering if pay will be released before Thursday or if its just going to be Friday as usual. ...
Good grief. I did not change the way I edit. It so depends on how many commas they think you should have. Yes, I made an unusual (for me) mistake last week, but the rest of passing an audit is dumb luck of whether you get a realistic auditor or Ms English wannabe.
Everybody must be under pressure because of the cesspool as I see a lot of mistakes when I look up past reports to help with these mush mouths and accents. The time czar wants schedule changes, but I see no problems with turna ...
Does it now vary from week to week? I used to always know exactly what my PTO was and could calculate it but just noticed that it varied from one paycheck a couple of months back to this past week. How is this now figured? So confusing ...
I opened a ticket yesterday for ASR, asking them to have H and H expand out to hemoglobin and hematocrit for my account, and less than 24 hours I got a message saying it was done! Unbelievable.
Seems crazy we would all have to do this, but if we all do this, maybe some positive change could actually come.
I gave them the account, an internal job number, and my contact number and just stated what the problem was. My understanding is this was corrected for this ...
I got the below link from my MQ Google Alert. If Speris tanks, there's gonna be a ton of MQs scrambling for jobs. I'm sure the Q will see this as the perfect opportunity to cut our salaries again as we fear for our jobs.

Most of the companies are paying 8 cpl for transcription and 4 cpl for editing. MQ is not going to stop until they reach that rate even though they may do it gradually as they have been doing. ...

Any opinions on the news today of office closing? Not many were named as being shifted to working at home. I hope that doesn't mean everyone else was let go. ...
Does anyone know if there is another conference call scheduled soon? I have not received notification, but it seems there should have been another scheduled for today if they are still doing the every-other-week thing as the last one was 2 weeks ago today. Also, didn't they say packets would be distributed the first week of November? ...
Good morning,
In your browser type in india.com and you will get "The Economic Times", one of India's newspapers. Interesting. What is even more interesting is to put in CBay up in the search bar (top right side) and watch what comes up. More information on CBay, but from India's newspaper perspective. Interesting to say the least. Always good to get an objective opinion!! ...
This whole thing makes absolutely zero sense to me. Webmedx has 500+ employees, right? What management is going to make an announcement regarding a publicly traded company and then tell employees not to talk? I would think announcing changes like that would put them at risk of actually influencing the stock. And they have to know it's ridiculous to think that many people are going to keep the announcement confidential.
To me, it seems extremely irresponsible of Webmedx any way I look at it ...
My hospital, which we were told in February was going to be outsourcing all of our work to Nuance, backed off and we were informed today that we'll all still continue to be employed!!!! Oh, Happy Day! I'm one of the last MTs in the country that still gets paid well, and I was sweating it! ...
I interviewed for a job at a local, major hospital. It was interesting to learn that the HIM department is in the process of bringing transcription back in house, at least partially. It was claimed that their transcription company was not doing a satisfactory job. This might be good news my MT friends. Maybe this will be a trend? I'm certainly hoping so and I mentioned how excited I was about the possibility of in-house transcription jobs being available in th ...
I hadn't heard much about this, but with all the problems they are having hiring and training, offering bonuses to sign on, etc. maybe (I might be dreaming) the changes will be for once to our benefit. Plan on sticking it out to see for sure. Call me a fool or an optimist --we will see which in October. ...
Does anybody have a clue what's coming down next week? Got a strange email (don't want to post what was said to give myself away) not from my TL but from her boss (which I have never gotten anything from her before) referring to my production, etc. and alluding to things changing next month. ...
Responses to the original post include a copy of the article, not just the link.
Oh, forgot, you might have to go down a ways on the page, as the discussion began on the 12th. Look for the initial post "Nuance in the news again," then the actual article appears in one of the subsequent posts.
