Insane pay rates? - que

I recently had an interview for a company I applied for last year (they opened new accounts). The interview seemed fine and I was offered the position, however I turned it down. The are paying 2.5 cpl SR with 1800 lines expected per day (actually was told some of the "lazier" MTs only typed 1400, thought this was rude of her to say) and ST 5 cpl but no minimum was mentioned as majotiry is SR. I have over 13 years in the MT field. I know wages have dropped recently but is 5 cpl the new normal? Would not even ammount to anywhere near minimum wage, especially when some accounts do not pay for spaces, etc. What is average going rate anymore? Was I wrong to turn this down?

If possible tell her you thought her comment was rude and that her pay rate is an insult.

I would have to say middle eastern work ethics have made their way to the U.S. I guess it was bound to happen.
At my highest I made 9 and a half cents a line, and then half that for editing. The editing slows me down, and from what I hear, slows everyone else down, so basically pay was cut in half.
To make up for the pay cut, I tried to go faster and was up around 2200 to 2400 lines per day. I literally broke both hands with this speed and had to give up MT'ing for good.
Nuance sucks but at least they'll pay you 8.25/4.63 for acute care. - nm

To me that number is STILL not acceptable and I left when that's what they cut my pay to, but if your other option is 5/2.5 I'd take it.
If I ever got offered this - I would simply

skim the reports for glaring errors and send them on. They would get what they paid for.
You were right! Pay like that is an insult to MTs, - not to mention an insult to themselves!

They should be ashamed of themselves, they are contributing to the increasing poverty in America.

for turning down that horrible and insulting pay!!!! If you took that job, you would just be an enabler, enabling them to pay awful wages! Kudos to you!

Is This Insane? Jun 20, 2010I applied with the Q about a year ago and was offered a position, got my paperwork, etc. I was fully hired and assigned to a SA, had my account information, and MQ was just awaiting receipt of my paperwork to send out my equipment.
Another offer came up, which I accepted, and contacted MQ to tell them something had come up and I was unable to accept the position they had offered at that time.
The recruiter was very nice and told me to contact them if my situation changed and they w ...

Valid/invalid Blanks - Totally Insane Jun 25, 2013Totally ridiculous this valid blank and invalid blank. It is invalid if I don't understand it and leave a blank (which is what I am trained to do) but it is a valid blank if they however cannot understand it. I am marked off for my INVALID blanks but not for their VALID blanks. I do not now and never have left blanks without trying to fill them in. These were not post audit (at least yet) but it still upsets me in that I always maintain a high level of accuracy and n ...

MQ Pay Rates? Oct 06, 2011What pittance rates DOES MQ pay these days for VR and for straight typing? MTSO Rates Nov 23, 2009Do you think the MTSOs cut their rates to their clients who are now using VR just as they have cut their MTs rates? Seems that some MTSOs are scrambling for some reason to cut everyone's pay down (even their MT pay, not just ME pay). I wonder if they are in over their heads with this new venture into VR and losing their arses and realizing it isn't quite the godsend everyone is making it out to be. One can hope, and would serve them right!

Line/pay Rates Mar 10, 2012I've been working for Medquist/M-Modal now for 11 years Full-time. How To Raise Rates Dec 13, 2014I have recently acquired an account. I did not know what to charge and was unable to find out what the going rates were (no one wants to tell). About 10 years ago, I was paid 12 cents per gross line but then went into being an employee until now. Anyway, I ended up giving a price of 15 cents per 65-character line. I went with character line because they have a funky format with very narrow margins and a small font. I do not know still how it compares with what ...
